Chateau / Country House, 4 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 8-10)
About Jean Johnston
This beautiful area was the inspiration for my artist/sculptor husband. It also was the perfect place to rear our 3 children. My days almost always begin with a walk on our 2+ miles of uncrowded beach. Now that our children are grown I have time to pursue my passion, going to gem shows and creating jewelry from my unique finds.
What makes this Chateau / Country House unique
This home is set back from the highway and located on 3 acres surrounded by pasture land. Follow the paved driveway around to the back of the house and you will find a 1 car garage, a ramp to the back door for easy access and plenty of parking for your cars, boat or RV. You will also find a secluded yard with a BBQ and comfortable chairs for relaxing. Watch for deer, herds of elk and covies of quail. You can also enjoy a variety of colorful birds that come to the feeders. (Bird food provided.) In late August the blackberry vines are hanging with juicy berries. They make delicious cobblers. Bring jars if you like to make jam.
Please consider the following guidelines when booking this property:

Just a couple things. Musty smelling and corners could have been cleaned better.
Great size for our family.
Memorial day 2019
Beautiful setting with big yard, great view, and easy beach access. This is an older house, very well kept, with no close neighbors. It has a nice sitting area upstairs with a great view. There were 10 of us and no one had any complaints. Just the privacy alone makes this a great place to stay
Beautiful property with a great view.
We had a great time. So close to beachcombing and hiking. Jean was very sweet and the house had everything we needed. Would definitely stay there again.
So happy you enjoyed yourselves. I'd love to have you back again. Jean
Fully functional and accommendating property; zero problems.
Jean's property was very comfortable and accommendating for our family of 10. All required amenities and comforts were available and enjoyed by all. Jean's property was a delightful throwback to my childhood in Southern Oregon/Northern California; thanks Jean, for the memories.
So happy you enjoyed your stay. Thank you for leaving the house in such good condition. Much appreciated.
We had a wonderful stay and thoroughly enjoyed the beach view and close access point across the street. The home was perfect and accommodated all of our needs. Jeanne was very communicative and prompt to respond. Great place, comfortable and certainly felt like home, Thank you!!
Thank you for your kind words. I enjoy sharing my home with guests like you and your family.
Lots of space, great views
The house has plenty of room for a large group. We had 9 people and we were able to enjoy our time in the house without feeling like we were on top of each other. The kitchen was well stocked with all the dishes/pans we needed and enough spices to cook basic meals (and a great collection of pottery that we enjoyed using). The location is convenient to Brookings, Crescent City, and the redwoods. The views of the ocean were great, especially from the upstairs family room. The owner is right next door and is very nice and is helpful in suggesting local activities. The gorgeous hydrangeas out front were blooming and there were a ton of blackberry bushes on the property that my children enjoyed. The location was quiet and secluded. The highway was rather busy, and we only went to the beach directly across once since we had young kids and my mom isn't physically able to walk very fast. The house is pretty clean, but has some dust/cobwebs and the baseboards and corners of the bathroom floors could stand to be wiped down, along with the shower door tracks.
There are 2 casinos near. Crescent Elk Casino in Crescent City and Lucky 7 Casino just one mile south on Hwy 101. Available for your use, Smelt net, 4 crab rings, 3 clam shovels, 2 clam pumps, 3 rakes for taking steamer clams. Bring rods and reels to fish for perch. Dig sand crabs for bait. Birding on the Pacific Flyway. There are reference books on the local sea creatures plus flora and fauna in the library for your use. (Please leave them for out next guest.)
There is a trading library upstairs. Take a book, leave a book in it's place.
A drive to Stout Grove Redwoods and Florence Keller park are a must. Also visit, at low tide only, Battery Point Lighthouse/museum in Crescent City.
