This loft has an architecture characterized by 18 feet high ceilings to cool off the properties during the humid months of the caribbean. A property completely build of brick and plastered with a thin layer of marmoline. The ceilings are made of a combination of stacked bricks and wooden beams. The kitchen is build out of cedar wood. This basic kitchen includes cabinets, dishwasher, refrigerator, stove oven, and microwave. The elevated bedroom has a Tempurepedic queen bed and is accessed by a beautiful wood stairway. The loft is completely air conditioned 24 hours a day. There are two full size futons in the living room for additional guest. The living room also has a hanging hammock chair and a plasma TV with cable tv. The most unique aspect of the loft would be the bathroom. The fortress style bathroom is completely in slate. It has a separate tub and shower. This slate bathroom is the trademark of the loft. The fortress style bathroom was remodeled with a minimalist component in order to preserve the characteristic architecture of the times.

Old San Juan Loft - O'Donnell St.
We arrived very late at night which they knew. We had a horrible time getting a hold of someone to come and open up the place and give us keys. It was listed as non-smoking but it reeked of cigarettes. We contacted the owner and he said, "open the windows" and "I can't be responsible for what people do there". The windows are slots in the door which goes to a hallway not fresh air. We keep fans on and doors open whenever we were there but it hit you when you came back. The owner said he would send someone over to clean things but never did. We payed to wash the bedding and towels which there it is not cheap. There was nothing else available or we would have left. It is his "responsibility" and should keep peoples deposit if they smoked and have it cleaned. We enjoyed Puerto Rico very much but hated coming back to the smell.
This is a wonderful and quiet space that can act as a retreat from the hustle and bustle of Old San Juan. All of the appliances are new and work wonderfully. The shower/bath is beautiful, as well. A less than 5 minute walk from everything you could want in Old San Juan, and a roughly 15 minute drive to San Juan. The property owner was also helpful and responsive whenever we had an issue. Street parking and parking garages are both available, too. Would highly recommend.
So much time is spent advertising this "soaking tub" and unique space that my fiancé and I were excited by the pictures and potential. However upon arriving we discovered there is absolutely no light in the tub shower area so we went and bought candles, yes you actually need candles. Unfortunately that didnt make a difference because the fancy big tub was broken, it doesn't drain! The owner, with little remorse, informed us it would not be fixed during our weeklong stay and no there would be no compensation. So now we are staying in a windowless room and the big selling feature isn't available to us. On to my next disappointment, make sure you bring your own blanket and pillows because all that is provided is a sheet and two limp pillows. When asked where the rest of the bedding was we were informed that it's a warm climate so we didn't need bedding. Huh? I have stayed in hotels, resorts, and B and B's throughout the Caribbean, Mexico, and the Southern US all of which are warm climates but I have never been denied basic bedding. My fiancé and I were forced to go out and purchase a blanket in Old San Juan. The only complement I can think of is that the kitchen is well appointed and the apartment overall was clean aside from the fruit flies. Plenty of towels were provided however there is no bath mat which is an issue considering the shower head does not stay up you have to keep pushing it back into place so water sprays all over the bathroom. Oh and no mirror over the bathroom sink. When ownership was informed upon arrival that multiple light bulbs were out we were informed the light bulbs that were still working provided enough light. Again, huh? As if all of this was not enough, interactions with ownership made it clear that they consider this a business transaction and not opening up their home to guests.
It was a great space. No loud people around. Felt safe. In the middle of everything. They left us with extra toilet paper, sheets, towels everything. Excellent place to stay
I was extremely pleased with this property. I stayed for 6 nights when I had to travel for a family emergency on almost no notice (I am PRican but I live in the States). First of all, they were prompt to reply, sharp to meet with me upon my arrival, and the place was exactly what I needed and they had advertised. It is located in the heart of Old San Juan, close to the main plaza, and almost all the restaurants. The place was spaciousness 1 bedroom loft, clean, and felt extremely safe.
It is a loft though, so it requires going up a flight of stairs to go to the bedroom, so if you have trouble with this it may be a little bit of a challenge. However, the stairs are extremely safe and easy to handle. The bathroom looks stunning, it feels like a modern dungeon, really artistic. The only slight problem is that the bathtub lacks a little bit of lighting but quite honestly, if you don't care that much about this, it is extremely spacious and definitely a unique experience. The shower itself is well lighted and easy to use.
Finally, this place is well equipped. You can cook almost anything you could think of and save a lot of money by doing so. It also has a table, a small TV with a big sofa and a hammock, with a small TV that has direct... just in case you wanna watch a game or watch a movie at the place. Did I mention the place also has free Wi-Fi? Seriously this place was better than any vrbo I have ever had in Old San Juan, and definitely way more affordable, it was a great deal! I had a little bit of trouble with my cel reception inside of the apartment but this was quickly fixed by walking into the hall just out of the door and/or using Wi-Fi on my device for FaceTime/calls.
Overall, A+, would stay here once again in a heartbeat.
This loft is located in the heart of Old San Juan. Everything is accessible by foot, no need for public transportation! However, if you do want to venture out to other parts of San Juan there is a taxi stand near by as well as the bus terminal. Shops, bars, cafes, restaurants, museums, beautiful historical sites and the port are a cobblestone away!
