Photos and Description of this 2 bedroom holiday home in Tamworth - 'Little House' on Brown Hill

A 2 Bedroom Cape With 1 & A 1/2 Bathrooms Looking At The Horse Pasture.

If these walls could speak…the stories they would tell of this home and its past owner! Built in the early 1800’s, you won’t find many homes that are still standing of that age, let alone in the condition that this home is in. The current owners have done many updates and kept the integrity of this home intact. The stairs to the bedrooms on the second floor are steep, as they would have been back then, so please take note. The current owners added a half bathroom to the second floor for convenience and updated the windows to take advantage of the efficiency, the view of the horse’s pasture and the natural lighting. There is a queen sized bed and a twin bed in the private bedroom. The other room has two twin beds that are convenient for the little ones.

The first floor of this home has an entry way which leads to the kitchen with its open shelving and a round kitchen table with four chairs. The kitchen is supplied with an electric coffee maker, dishes, pots and pans, a griddle, baking pans, a refrigerator, electric stove and a microwave. Off the kitchen is a screened in porch, with a table and chairs to enjoy meals in the spring/summer/fall seasons. The other side of the entry way is a large living area with pine floors and a electric fireplace to enjoy the ambiance of a fire on those chilly nights. There is plenty of seating and a large coffee table to start a puzzle, have a game of cards, or watch a DVD. The first floor's three quarter bathroom has a camp size stand up shower.

This home offers so much to the person who would like to get away and enjoy the beauty of the White Mountains (whether hiking, mountain biking, skiing or snowshoeing), you could also bring your kayak/canoe and paddle , the local rivers, Chocorua Lake (with a town pass) or White Lake (there is a nominal fee) . If exploring is your goal, grab a trail map, pack a lunch and enjoy any of the local trails. If you want, take in a show at The Barnstormers, the oldest summer theater in the country or visit the Tamworth Lyceum or coming this summer the Tamworth Distillery The Remick Farm Museum has multiple educational programs throughout the year. Enjoy outdoor concerts this summer on Sunday behind the Other Store. Don’t forget we have “tax-free” shopping so take a ride up to North Conway and enjoy a day of shopping and grab a gourmet treat at one of the many great restaurants in the Valley. In the winter enjoy the many ski areas within an hours drive or cross country ski or snowshoe on many local trails. This is a great four season area for any type of vacation.

About Beth

As you can see from my photo, we have horses. We purchased this property, because it had acreage, a barn and the 'little house' that we lived in while building our house farther off the road. A wonderful area with plenty of area to go for a ride on the back roads. A sunny spot for the gardens, both vegetables and flowers. We enjoy listening to the owls and coyotes at night while in the screened-in porch. A wonderful rural location, yet close to town.

Beth purchased this house in 1994

Why Beth chose White Mountains

The convenience of being away from it all, yet close to town. This property worked for us for when we wanted to take the horses out for a long stroll down the back roads and for the convenience of working close by. We enjoy the scenery and the quietness of the location. We love the charm of an antique home.

What makes this house unique

One of the benefits of this property is that we are in a great location, in the White Mountains and the Lakes Region. We love relaxing in the screened-in porch watching the horses in the pasture. This home is has so much history that it was very nice to see it make the book 'if walls could speak' revisited in 2005 by Lillian McGrew about Early House.

An adorable yet spacious little house which was perfect for our needs.

Clean and well appointed. The location is a bit out of the way so grab the groceries on your way through town. We had a great time!

Excellent rental

  • 5 of 5

The house was clean, comfortable, and peaceful on a quiet rural road. The hosts were thoughtful and generous and easy to work with to arrange check-in times or to ask questions. The photos and descriptions in the listing matched what we experienced when we visited. The furnishings, linens, and kitchen had everything we needed. We would definitely stay here again and wouldn't hesitate to suggest it to friends.

Wondeful Cottage in Idyllic Setting

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 3 had a wonderful stay at this cottage. The setting is idyllic and the cottage was exactly as described. The owners were very kind and so thoughtful in their care of the house and in what they provided for us. The town is quaint and near beautiful mountains and pristine lakes. There are many fun things to do nearby. We went to the Remick Animal Farm /Museum, did a trail ride at Jackson Mountain, and swam at Chicorua Lake. We loved sitting on the porch for breakfast, relaxing outside enjoying the views of horses and pasture and cooking on the grill for dinner. Thank you so much - we look forward to coming back soon!

wonderful rental for NH mountains

  • 5 of 5

Thank you for sharing your house with us! This rental have everything - every detail - thought of and taken care of. The listing is accurate and the owner communications worked well. The place was very clean when we checked in, and we found everything to be just as expected. The fully stocked kitchen was great. The nearby Tamworth town center is worth a visit. We forgot a DVD and the owner was great about mailing it back. Would rent again.

This is a true gem! We stayed here for a week and it wasn't long enough. So much to see and do with nature right outside and attractions nearby. The property is perfectly kept and very cozy and provided everything we needed (including local maple syrup and hiking books!). Bed was SUPER comfortable too! A nice cool breeze provided perfect sleeping conditions. There is a 3 season room/porch where we ate each night while talking about the day's adventures. We even saw a fox run across the pasture! And heard a great horned owl! I highly recommend this place and hope to come back soon!

Lovely cottage style home in relaxing, quiet setting

  • 4 of 5

Beth and Bruce were attentive and kind hosts. Also, very easy to deal with, even though we booked iur stay fairly last minute. The Home Is Off The Beaten Path, but yet a short drive to town with restaurants and cute shops. Home had everything we needed and is well designed for a family. Our dog also enjoyed exploring the grounds while on his (leashed!) walks with us. Thank you for a lovely Memorial Day weekend stay!

This property is minutes from downtown Tamworth. You can walk from the home to downtown. A great place for long walks, hikes, mountain biking and if you bring your kayaks, take it down the Bear camp river, but you will need the town sticker. A wonderful place to get away from the hustle of city life.
