Overview

About the property

A 2 Bedroom Cape With 1 & A 1/2 Bathrooms Looking At The Horse Pasture.

If these walls could speak…the stories they would tell of this home and its past owner! Built in the early 1800’s, you won’t find many homes that are still standing of that age, let alone in the condition that this home is in. The current owners have done many updates and kept the integrity of this home intact. The stairs to the bedrooms on the second floor are steep, as they would have been back then, so please take note. The current owners added a half bathroom to the second floor for convenience and updated the windows to take advantage of the efficiency, the view of the horse’s pasture and the natural lighting. There is a queen sized bed and a twin bed in the private bedroom. The other room has two twin beds that are convenient for the little ones.

The first floor of this home has an entry way which leads to the kitchen with its open shelving and a round kitchen table with four chairs. The kitchen is supplied with an electric coffee maker, dishes, pots and pans, a griddle, baking pans, a refrigerator, electric stove and a microwave. Off the kitchen is a screened in porch, with a table and chairs to enjoy meals in the spring/summer/fall seasons. The other side of the entry way is a large living area with pine floors and a electric fireplace to enjoy the ambiance of a fire on those chilly nights. There is plenty of seating and a large coffee table to start a puzzle, have a game of cards, or watch a DVD. The first floor's three quarter bathroom has a camp size stand up shower.

This home offers so much to the person who would like to get away and enjoy the beauty of the White Mountains (whether hiking, mountain biking, skiing or snowshoeing), you could also bring your kayak/canoe and paddle , the local rivers, Chocorua Lake (with a town pass) or White Lake (there is a nominal fee) . If exploring is your goal, grab a trail map, pack a lunch and enjoy any of the local trails. If you want, take in a show at The Barnstormers, the oldest summer theater in the country or visit the Tamworth Lyceum or coming this summer the Tamworth Distillery The Remick Farm Museum has multiple educational programs throughout the year. Enjoy outdoor concerts this summer on Sunday behind the Other Store. Don’t forget we have “tax-free” shopping so take a ride up to North Conway and enjoy a day of shopping and grab a gourmet treat at one of the many great restaurants in the Valley. In the winter enjoy the many ski areas within an hours drive or cross country ski or snowshoe on many local trails. This is a great four season area for any type of vacation.

About Beth

As you can see from my photo, we have horses. We purchased this property, because it had acreage, a barn and the 'little house' that we lived in while building our house farther off the road. A wonderful area with plenty of area to go for a ride on the back roads. A sunny spot for the gardens, both vegetables and flowers. We enjoy listening to the owls and coyotes at night while in the screened-in porch. A wonderful rural location, yet close to town.

Beth purchased this house in 1994

Why Beth chose White Mountains

The convenience of being away from it all, yet close to town. This property worked for us for when we wanted to take the horses out for a long stroll down the back roads and for the convenience of working close by. We enjoy the scenery and the quietness of the location. We love the charm of an antique home.

What makes this house unique

One of the benefits of this property is that we are in a great location, in the White Mountains and the Lakes Region. We love relaxing in the screened-in porch watching the horses in the pasture. This home is has so much history that it was very nice to see it make the book 'if walls could speak' revisited in 2005 by Lillian McGrew about Early House.

The little brown house on the hill is a gem - if you can find it -

  • 5 of 5

Don't rely on GPS- we got lost every time. Thank God the owner was available when we checked in and she guided us to the property. We did a lot of night driving (not recommended) because we were visiting friends 30 miles away. And we got lost every time coming back. The roads are mostly dirt and it is in the middle of nowhere. But if that is what you want, you will love it. The house, I believe is from 1812. Green, wooden floors, quaint and oh so cozy. We have done a fair amount of traveling and we've never had so much stuff in a house or a condo. The kitchen is stocked with all of the kitchen gear you need. The personal touches are what we liked the best. She had blueberry coffee and other coffee for us, homemade jam, and a bottle of wine. There is salt, pepper, oil, pancake mix, maple syrup.........And great frying pans for cooking. Can you tell we love to cook and eat? There is plenty of room too. We hosted one dinner party there and there were 7 of us with plenty of room for everyone. The screened in porch is so cool. There is a TV that plays movies only and we loved that. The stairs going up to the bedrooms are very steep so not for the disabled. Once you get upstairs there are two bedrooms with a total of 4 beds. If you are over 6" tall it may be tough for you but if you are shorter than that, you will be fine. The beds were comfortable with fans in both rooms. She had nightlights that looked like lanterns. There is a bathroom upstairs too. I loved that it was filled with books too. It is such a quaint house. And so quiet and peaceful and beautiful. We did go into the town of Tamworth for the farmer's market. That was neat. Also the owner left instructions for the Creamery and we took the instructions with us when we went because it is in the middle of nowhere too but very cool. We also visited Pothole ponds (or something like that) and it was awesome but the water was freezing but very refreshing. All in all we loved our stay. I want to go back to New England in the fall. I can't imagine how beautiful it would be. We are from Colorado (one of the most beautiful states in the U.S.) but this runs a close second. The people we met were kind, seemed to live off of their land and were warm and inviting. This house would be great for a family. It feels like camping with all of the amenities of a condo. If I ever rented out a house to others, I would like it to be like this house. Because it felt like home!

Beautiful place!

Loved the property and the area. About 25 minutes from Cranmore skiing but if you are looking to get away from it all this place is perfect.

Amazing hospitality and a perfect house

  • 5 of 5

I can't find the right words to explain how great was our experience. We have rent many houses and I never seen such a clean house. Everything was so clean, including the kitchen and any of the appliances, bathrooms and shower, towels and sheets. All was well stocked as well. The owners had leave for us local maple syrup and homemade jam. Bottle of wine was there for us as well. Beth had the kitchen stock with a lot of plastic bags, paper plates, paper towel, detergent, coffee, pancake mix, everything you will think you will need, she has it ready for us. Bathrooms stock with plenty of toilet paper, soap and even toothbrushes. The driveway was shoveled properly upon our arrival. Amazing experience and great hosts. Thank you!

A wonderful winter vacation

  • 5 of 5

For the second year in a row, my family stayed for 5 days during the winter school break. The house is perfectly located away from it all but close enough to the shops and restaurants in both North Conway and Meredith/Moultonboro areas. The house is clean and comfortable. The kitchen had all of the staples you might need to start the day with coffee and pancakes! Beth and Bruce are so kind and helpful. We went sledding and snowshoeing right on the property. We had a great stay and already can't wait to go back again next year!

An adorable yet spacious little house which was perfect for our needs.

  • 4 of 5

Clean and well appointed. The location is a bit out of the way so grab the groceries on your way through town. We had a great time!
