Spectacular views, open air and privacy at Hope House.

Bedrooms 3
Property type house
Minimum Stay 3 nights

About the property

Located on a bluff overlooking beautiful, secluded Hope Beach.

This is an incredible value for the adventurist!

The rustically comfortable main house, built in true West Indian style, has an open air kitchen which flows onto the wrap-around veranda, with a stunningly endless view of the Caribbean Sea, the uninhabited islands of Baliceaux and Battowia and exclusive Mustique in the foreground.

The nighttime star viewing is spectacular.

The main house has two bedrooms, each with a queen bed and louvered doors that can be pushed aside to draw in the beautiful Caribbean breezes; two half baths and one open-air tiled shower.

The guest house has a queen bedded bedroom complete with a full wall louvered door opening to a terrace with a daybed for a perfect afternoon nap, bath with a private outdoor shower, and a sitting room.

Hope House is a short drive or walk from Port Elizabeth and easily accessible to all that Bequia has to offer - fabulous beaches, restaurants, sunset views, island shopping, snorkeling and diving, fishing, etc. Hike down to Hope Beach for a morning swim and spend the afternoon reading and relaxing on the Hope House veranda. There is no better way to spend a day in the Caribbean.

Hope House is part of a family-owned estate of more than 60 acres and is maintained as a working plantation. There is an estate manager on the property overseeing operations on a daily basis.

The house comes with a cook for breakfast, housekeeping Monday through Saturday including personal laundry, fresh sheets and towels every other day and housecleaning. The cook can be hired for additional meals and entertaining.

There is wireless internet.

Please note there is a 7% service charge added to the house rental.

Tipping is suggested for excellent service from house help.

A magical spot: Relaxing, refreshing and romantic

  • 5 of 5

Hope House transported us to a simpler era; time slowed down, the views hypnotized, the bananaquits and anoles enchanted.

We've been there twice, both times in March, and were immediately reminded of the US Virgin Islands back before they became a cruise ship “destination.” A comfortable, relaxing, refreshing Eden far away from the real world....

For us, the house has a great layout for three couples travelling together, lovely West Indian stonework, ingenious louvered shutters, and private porches with each bedroom, while the kitchen and indoor living room/outdoor main porch were ideal spots for all of us to gather together for cocktails or backgammon or emailing the outside world.

While we hesitated to leave this hilltop paradise, the hike down to the beach is worth every step (and better exercise than going to a gym). A fun adventure. Next time, we’d bring a picnic lunch, a couple good books, snorkels and masks and plan to stay longer.

Port Elizabeth is wonderfully colorful. One afternoon we stopped to ask a fisherman about his day’s catch and ended up buying some of it for our dinner. Other places to enjoy, in Port Elizabeth and around the island, include Jack’s Bar and Grill on Princess Margaret Beach, pizza at Mac’s Pizzeria, lunch at Sugar Reef Café, dinner at Devil’s Table or Gingerbread or Tante Pearl’s (an amazing place from which to watch the sunset), shopping at Whaleboner (beautiful fabrics!), the Old Hegg Turtle Sanctuary, and a day sail on the Friendship Rose, a magnificent schooner built in Friendship Bay (the moment you climb aboard, they give you fresh coffee and a delicious breakfast).

Speaking of delicious, back at Hope House, every meal prepared by cook Selma was delightful, and her chicken curry is amazing, and whenever we had questions about the property, the island, St. Vincents or the Grenadines, Hope House’s manager, Herman, willingly shared history and stories.

The only bad thing: Having to say goodbye. Hope House will work its way into your heart -- it's a special place worth sharing with friends.

You can spend days on Bequia being active with activities like hiking, fishing, swimming, snorkeling, etc. You can try a different restaurant every night of the week, each with their own local cuisine. You can enjoy the sunset at The Frangipani Bar and hope to experience the 'green flash.' You can cook at home in the incredibly unique Hope House open air kitchen, enjoy a quite bottle of wine and the peace and quiet of the terrace. Or you can spend the day trying to decide which of the many beaches is your favorite; who has the best rum punch; or whether to sleep or read in the warm Caribbean breeze.

You can take the morning ferry over to St. Vincent and tour the oldest botanical garden in the western hemisphere, or hike La Soufriere, a 4,000 foot high active volcano that was the birthplace of the Grenadine islands Saint Vincent, nature lovers will love visiting the rain forest and the Mesopotamia Valley. On the way back to Kingstown, visit the tropical Montreal Gardens.

No trip to Bequia is complete without a day trip on the Friendship Rose, a 100 foot classic sailing schooner, complete with 600 feet of sail, built by hand in Friendship Bay. Sail to Tobago Cay for fabulous snorkeling or Mustique, a private island home to the rich and famous. Experience the world renowned Basils Bar and beautiful white sand beaches.

There are weekly and yearly events in Bequia… the steel drum jump up on Thursday nights, dancing at least 3 nights a week, music 5 nights. Fireworks on New Years Eve, Musicfest at the end of January and the very popular Easter Regatta.
