We have TWO Nearly Identical TWIN side by side Units on VRBO. Property ID's are 373386 and 956143. However the later was not placed on VRBO until late 2017 (6 years after its sister unit), so its reviews are also under 373386. However as you read the reviews, the guest (especially the ones that rented both at the same time) find the experience great with either unit. Please see unit 373386 for reviews of 956143.

These are beautiful 2011, again in 2014, and again in 2017 renovated three bedroom (one bedroom is a large loft), two bath with vaulted ceilings on the 4th floor at the fantastic Papakea Resort! Our Condo's remodels in August 2011 was by well known high end Builder/Designer Mike Harvey. You will not believe how great it turned out as the pictures do not do this unit justice (again see reviews :-) ). The kitchen's are decked out with “Exotic wood” cabinets accented with all Stainless Steel Appliances and Gorgeous Granite counter tops. The bedroom's have been furnished with the same high end furniture used in the top hotels in Kaanapali Beach. Imagine waking up in the morning and looking out your bedroom window (373386) and seeing a serene coy pond, lush green lawns with putting green, with the back drop of a whale filled turquoise ocean, nothing closer to heaven! (956143) master is secluded away from the common grounds (This is the most common format in Papakea). The second bedroom has been outfitted with a Queen Bed with the same high end furniture (the whole unit has these great furnishings). The third bedroom, the loft, stands at top of a classic spiral staircase (373386) or a straight staircase (956143). It is a giant space so it has both a queen bed and two twin beds and still plenty of room to spare. We also added a sleeper sofa in the family room just in case you need to add two more people to your party allowing up to 10 people.

Second renovation included state of the art mini-split multi-zoned A/C. The only A/C you should demand from your rental. Each room has its own register and it can actually pull the humidity out of the room and cool, VERY FAST! No more waiting all day just to get the room 2 degrees cooler! We also put in wood floors in the bedrooms and loft (SOME PICTURES STILL HAVE OLD CARPETING IN THEM). See below for reasons, they are important.

Third renovation is adding new French Sliding doors to the Lanai, and tiling the Lanai! (Pictures may still have old Lanai doors and no tiles on them).

State of the art KEYLESS Entry system. Now you can walk on the beach, swim, play and not have to carry an annoying key or key card with you. Your whole party will have access and you can not forget your key inside.

Papakea resort is a beautifully landscaped, low-rise complex of 4 story buildings on 13 acres at north end of Kaanapali Beach. It Includes 2 swimming pools, 12 barbecues, 2 spa's, 2 shuffleboards, 3 lighted tennis courts, 2 putting greens, and many more Extras!!! This condo is not only perfect for your family vacation but also great for family reunions, weddings, etc. You will not find this any where else on Maui!!! Great deal!!

WHY RENOVATION 2.0 and 3.0:

To some this second renovation may not seem like much, but in Hawaii, these costs were very significant. In fact the cost of just these two items on this second renovation was more than 25% of the first renovation’s cost!

The new A/C was because our past guest were given a chance to tell us their top recommendations for our units. The most common (two) was the A/C. The issue, these wall units do not remove the humidity very well, take many hours to cool, and then only seem to cool a couple of degrees. They also leak a lot of water because the water they take out of the air, they put into a pan on the bottom of the A/C expecting evaporation to remove (which does not), which has its own set of issues. After installing and using the new units, we can say that nobody should ever have the other style or even no A/C. We use them very little ourselves, but sometimes removing the humidity from the air makes a world of difference in comfort. And to do it, you only need to run the A/C in that one room for a short amount of time, not all day!

As for the carpets, well that was the second most recommendation. Although we all love carpets, there are two issues that came up, one is they look dirty too easily and make the place look not as nice, second is the environment is already very warm, and it is nicer to have a cooler feeling under your feet. Not to mention that the wood floors are just so much richer looking.

The sliding doors from the original build do not operate easily, and can not be repaired because the tracks malformed with time. Almost all the units at Papakea have this issue, so expect this to be a problem if the units have not been updated.

As you read our reviews, you will see that we pride ourselves on doing our best to provide one of the best, if not the best, vacation experience you can have. VRBO's quick booking business philosophy does not create both the trust between you the guest and us the Owners. This trust is why you see that we have one of the most reviewed units. We can only make you feel good about your stay, if we make sure your expectations are accurately set from the beginning and deliver on them. So PLEASE make that first email before book it now. About The Owner

This condo has been in our family for over 30 years. Our father purchased the unit and lived in Papakea way back when because he had the vision to see this resort becoming one of the most desired locations on Maui. We have been coming to visit Hawaii for the last 20+years and consider Maui to be a home-away-from-home. Can you think of a better place to spend your time??

We inherited the properties and rather than sell them we felt it was better to keep them for rental so others could enjoy what we have been experiencing for the last 20 years.

What makes this townhome unique

We love this condo!! We really enjoy hanging out with our teenage girls on the beach, This is a great location because of it's easy access to restaurants, evening BBQ's at the pool, whale watching, boating , snorkling at Kapalua Bay, golfing,shopping...and sooo much more!!. And now that it has been remodeled this spot is 'the best of the best'!!!

Papakea is a great location on the Ocean, 10 min. from Kapalua Golf courses Home of the PGA Tour (The Plantation Course and the Bay course at the RITZ). You will find plenty to do at Papakea ,as you look down from the Condo right at the resort, there is a 9 hole putting green for kids and adults! Yoga classes on the beach, and swimming aerobics Walk down from the condo to the beach to do some boogie boarding, great snorkeling steps away from the condo! Activity Desk, Concierge, and Welcome Breakfast to introduce you to all the property has to offer.

Best of the Best deserves 10 Stars.

I'm an experienced traveler who has used VRBO and HomeAway rental sites quite often. In fact this was my 4th visit to the Papakea and this unit is by far the best we've had. We are a multi-generational family of 9 ranging in ages from 10 - 63. This unit sits back a bit on the property where you get the full ambience of the coy pond with beautiful lily pads, lush green grass then the gorgeous ocean. Close enough to hear the crashing waves. Twice we have stayed absolute ocean front, but found this unit to be superior in it's location. The front facing buildings get quite hot in the afternoon sun. This unit is perfectly set to receive no afternoon sun. The unit itself is gorgeous! High end in every way and well equipped and stocked. It features gorgeous, exotic flooring in the bedrooms, the beds are super comfy and all furnishings are a quality I would have in my own home..... Now for the added big bonus.... BRIAN. Wow, what an amazing owner. You will never find a more responsive, informative, helpful owner. I cannot say enough great things about Brian and this beautiful unit. We also love the location just North of Ka'anapali. I would highly recommend this place for everyone!!

Good condo for families

First off, Brian is amazing to work with from start to finish. He is very quick at responding and making sure you are taken care of. The sink garbage disposal didn't work when we got there, and he had someone out the next day and fixed it. The place is cozy and it was nice to have beds for everyone and space for people to put stuff. The kitchen and living area is a little cramped (we had my husband and I, and our 4 children, one being a baby), but it worked. There are TONS of amenities there to make your trip easy. We especially appreciated all the baby stuff. There's a pack n play for baby to sleep in, a high chair, and a stroller. It made it much easier. There was also a ton of beach stuff. Towels, sand toys, floaties, snorkeling stuff (not fins) and boogie boards. It's nice to have a washer and dryer. This is something that is a must for us when we travel. However, The washer is VERY small. You can't fit a lot in there. We always pack light and just wash clothes. But it was impossible to keep up with laundry for everyone for 8 days, plus constantly washing beach towels, bathroom towels, and dish cloths because I couldn't wash very much at once. You can wash a max of 4 beach towels at once, and that's a tight fit in there. The view from the balcony was fantastic. You aren't right over the pool or ocean, so it's much more quiet. But, it was nice to be able to send the kids to the pool, but still be able to see them from the balcony if the baby was sleeping and we wanted to relax. There is no beach in front of the property. You walk just a few minutes to the left of the building. It's a decent beach for little kids to play and splash in, but if you are looking to snorkel or swim out a bit, it's not your beach. It's ok for boogie boarding. But there's not a lot of beach to work with. But, that's the case in most of West Maui because of high tides the last 2 winters. The grounds are immaculate and the kids LOVED the pool, golf area, and shuffle board area, plus sitting by the sea wall. The one thing we really wished worked better is the air conditioning. Despite turning it down, it never really cooled things down a ton. It took the edge off, but it almost seemed like it was preset to a higher temp. By the end of the vacation, we were sweating pretty badly in the condo. But, it's better than no air at all. Overall, we liked the place and it worked for what we needed. Also, there's great snorkeling beaches a short drive away

Owner's Response: Thank you very much for such a great detailed review. You have provided a lot of great information that will help future guest. I wish I had known you were having the A/C problem as the fix was easy. Turns out the next guest contacted us for the same reason, and the fan had been turned down by a previous guest (the fan can be very strong, and some people do not like the power so they turn down the fan, but moving the vent direction is a better solution. We actually bought the best A/C system you can get for a Condo, a mini-split, top of the line, usually will cool the place in less than 30 minutes. I feel bad that you had to live with high humidity in the unit, not the experience we wanted for you. The good news is your review will help future guest to know that we are here to help! Oh and the garbage disposal was a broken bottle/glass that was not reported to us so it could be fixed until you let us know (thank you again!). Hawaii is one of the most difficult places to provide top quality service to our guests. The reason you all love to come to Hawaii is the laid back approach to life the residents have. However that same relaxed way of life also comes with reliability issues with the people that do work. We have no way to know if somebody forgot to do something until somebody tells us. The cleaning company we use, we believe to be far and away the best on all the islands. they make mistakes, but they fix them as fast as we let them know, and nobody else we know of will do this. So we appreciate how our guest understand this, and work with us to help make the units the best for their stay, and the stays of future guests. Mahalo!

Great location, very well kept grounds, very responsive owner

Beautiful view from patio ( they are replacing the doors and windows soon)

Easy Walking distance to great beaches (though not exactly ON the beach) and restaurants and other resorts, and shops

Lots of kids equipment and pool, beach toys in the unit

pools and spa were very nice and uncrowded

There were 9 of us but we were out and about a lot so it worked out OK

Brian gave us lots of information and always responded almost immediately to any question.

Great Place for Families

We had a wonderful stay at Papakea! Our family of 7 who stayed ranged in ages 2 - 69 and the facilities were great for everyone. The first few days of our stay were very rainy, but the place was comfortable for us to lounge around in while we waited for the rain to stop. It was very convenient for our family to make food--especially with the grocery store across the street. The place had everything you would need, from beach chairs, towels, toys for the kids to a pack n play for our little one. The owners were extremely responsive, detailed and kind. We loved it so much we are thinking about booking again for next winter.

Terrific family vacation place

Our stay in Papeka was everything we hoped it would be. Our daughter, her husband and three children age 7 to 14 joined us in the condo. There was lots of room for everyone and the kids really enjoyed having the loft to themselves. The pool area is great for people with young children as they can be swimming while you cook the evening meal on the BBQ. Our other daughter was staying at a more ritzy resort about half a mile away the kids preferred Papeka. All the extras Brian provided really added to our stay and the information he sent us about things to do was excellent. The info in the main office was also great and they saved us a lot of money with their 2 for one admission to the Aquarium.

Owner's Response: And we want to thank you. For years we have wanted to go to the Aquarium, and never even thought about talking to our Friends at the Expedia desk for discounts. They are awesome, and if you book in advance (before you arrive on island) with them, you can usually get discounts (to LOTS of outings) like you stated (that is why I send to everybody how to contact them before they arrive). Also loved hearing the kids loved Papakea over the "ritzy" resort. I do not think people realize that a resort with so much land and only 4 story buildings does not have the crowded feeling that the "ritzy" resorts have. This is what we love about Papakea the most. You never feel like it is crowded when at the pool, tennis courts, putting green, shuffleboard, ponds, gardens, and the list goes on...

Best Vacation Ever!

The condo was the perfect place for a large family vacation! It accommodated our 9 member family which consisted of 6 adults 2 college age and a 7 yr old. The kitchen was better equipped than my one at home. So nice of the owner to provide so many extras, beach chairs, ice chests, golf equipment, sand toys, beach towels and so many other things to provide entertainment, less things to pack, less things to purchase and in so many ways made our trip so enjoyable. He also provided an information packet filled with so many helpful hints, restaurant suggestions, less expensive places to shop and beach info that was invaluable! The staff was wonderful and the Expedia lady helped us with so many island activities. Truly made the best vacation ever for our family! We can't recommend it enough and will certainly come back!!!

As you can see we do the big things (like renovations, our third renovation will take place this summer is new sliding doors for both units (in Hawaii this is a major expense :-)), and hopefully tiled Lanai!). and little things like giving you a Long document with lots of ideas we have learned from all our trips, and formed relationships and friendships with people who will help make this a dream vacation. The greatest payback we get from our guest, is leaving reviews like this.
