Perfect home-base for your Berkshires adventure

  • 5 of 5

My partner and I had an amazing visit. The cottage was beautifully furnished - the kitchen in particular. Despite our busy vacation plans we carved out an evening to eat in and it was the best meal of our trip. Two great hikes nearby: Bartholomew's Cobble and Race Brook Falls. Of course Shakespeare & Co., Jacob's Pillow and Tanglewood were amazing. Sheffield has a much slower pace compared to Lenox but has a Guido's and a Haven. We were happy to skip the crowds! A pleasant surprise. Highly recommended.

Sweet cottage, great location

  • 4 of 5

Clean and well appointed cottage that's conveniently close to Berkshire School, Sheffield, and Great Barrington. The cottage has a great deal of charm with a spacious ground floor kitchen and dining area. Upstairs has a relaxing lounge that's perfect for reading one of the many interesting books there, or kicking back and watching T.V.

The bedroom nook was cozy with super soft linens and down comforter; best night sleep I've had in a while. Unfortunately, my 6'1" husband could not say the same as he was too tall to fit in the bed comfortably, which I think may be a double rather than a queen. Nicely renovated bathroom with good water pressure and plenty of hot water, although just the hot water produces a sulfur either get used to it or not. I would definitely stay here again. The owners were very organized and communicative to any questions we may have had. Thank you so much for sharing your home with us!

The perfect country respite

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I decided to schedule a last minute getaway to enjoy a break from our daily NYC hustle and we were happy to discover Wiketmore in the Berkshires. With the city lights long behind us, we arrived to this cozy cottage and traded city energy for country calm. We immediately felt at home. Max was the perfect host, promptly responding to our inquiries for local tips. He sent us to the Prairie Whale for the insanely good fried chicken, Bazilion's for charcuterie provisions and the Stagecoach Inn for a quintessential New England supper on Sunday evening as we ended our weekend. He is a wealth of knowledge about the area and was keen on making sure we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and explored the area like a local. If you're looking for a Berkshire getaway that feels like home, this is your place.

Perfection! Can't wait for our 2nd Berkshire Visit!

  • 5 of 5

Wicketmoore cottage was the perfect getaway and the dreamiest of homes in the Berkshires. My boyfriend and I had the most romantic & relaxing time before the busy thanksgiving holiday. We cannot wait to come back for an extended period of time and enjoy every season.

The cottage is nestled off a beautiful tree-lined street- quiet and peaceful. The property is gorgeous and so charming- the yard & garden on all sides of the house are well-kept (even at the beginning of winter months), expansive deck, the walkway from the garage to the house under the pergola w/ wisteria...AMAZING!

The interior is breathtaking. I was excited the moment I saw the photos on VRBO, but to see it in person is even more fantastic. The downstairs is so cozy- expansive kitchen with the most well-equipped appliances. The perfect kitchen for entertaining and cooking. Beautiful light in all the rooms. Spotless and clean in every room. The upstairs is just as quaint & special. I loved every space.

Max has managed to thoroughly update this family cottage while maintaining the feel of a rustic mountain cottage. Rustic and modern, minimal with eclectic decor, nostalgic and new... it all blends so perfectly. This architectural contrast of old and new is just so tastefully done that it deserves a comment.

The owner, Max, was extremely accommodating and a pleasant surprise. We got the best local recommendations about where to hike, eat, drink coffee, sight-see, shop, buy groceries, ect. You can tell he takes pride in his cottage and wants it to be the best experience for every renter.

This was by far the best of many vacations we have had in a rental home. We will return, maybe with friends or family next time. We would highly recommend Wicketmoore for its idyllic Berkshire setting, unique eclectic ambiance, and ease of doing business with the owner. It was PERFECT.

Felt totally ripped off - *terrible* experience

  • 1 of 5

We've been using VRBO for years, and this is the 1st time we really got burned. If we were local we would take this owner to small claims, but since we live in CA, have decided to just put it behind us. There were *many* problems with this rental, but b/c of short word limit I can only describe in detail the most egregious one and quickly list a few others. Listing said *nothing* about the final cleaning. There are generally 2 ways of handling it: either owner prices cost of final cleaning into daily fee, or adds it as a separate charge. This owner did neither. Instead, AFTER we booked the rental, he sent us an email with “standard follow up terms” saying he “expects and appreciates” we will “leave the house in the condition it was found.” The last thing we wanted to do was spend our last hours of vacation cleaning the house, but we didn’t notice this little gem until we reviewed the "fine print" shortly before leaving. As irritated as we were, it didn't seem worth arguing with owner about it, so although we had to hit road by 8 a.m., we set our alarms an extra 45 minutes early on our last morning and cleaned. We ran out of time to run the dishes through the dishwasher, but took out the garbage, put recycling in the garage, and wiped down the counters. I even got down on my hands and knees with a paper towel to try to remove some corn silks/husks that had fallen to the floor since there was no broom, dustpan or even dish towel (!) to be found in kitchen area. A few days later, owner sent us a note stating that the downstairs was “absolutely filthy,” citing the unwashed dishes in the sink, and informing us that he was deducting $200 from our security deposit! That is more than our housekeeper in Silicon Valley charges to spend 8 solid hours cleaning our entire house, which is about 3 times the size of this cottage! We objected by e-mail, pointing out that he only told us we had to do final cleaning *after* we booked the rental, this was not standard VRBO practice, we cleaned as best we could with time we had, etc. Owner never even responded to our e-mail, let alone refunded any of our $200. Few of other problems: 2nd "private" bedroom has NO DOOR; t.v. & DVD did not work; all dishes in supposedly "family friendly" house are breakable china; lock on main entrance door is broken; BR & one *tiny* LR are VERY stuffy even with all fans running (no A/C); "gourmet" kitchen poorly stocked (had to use mixing bowls as cereal bowls), etc. etc. AWFUL experience!

Owner's Response: These guests were some of the most entitled and inconsiderate guests and possibly people we have ever encountered. Nothing in our house was "to their liking" and they actually seemed incapable of finding anything that was easily accessible throughout the house. Then instead of voicing these frustrations to us they decided the mature thing to do would be to leave the house a complete mess. Additionally they stained two of our sofa cushion covers with something like chocolate neglected to mention it. This alone required over a $200 dry cleaning bill. In our opinion we were overly fair in refunding as much of their damage deposit as we did based on how much of a nightmare these guests were to host.
