About Lori McGinley
My parents built this camp as our summer retreat from Long Island where I grew up. Since I now live in beautiful NH now, even though I am closer, it seems we just don't use it as much as we should. That is why we are renting it. My hope is that people will enjoy it as much as we do, as a peaceful, fun, unplugged break from our busy lives.
Lori McGinley purchased this Cottage in 1970
Why Lori McGinley chose Parsonsfield
This is my family's camp. I grew up spending summers here as did my own kids. So many friends have enjoyed it and we thought it would be appreciated by others if we rented it. Ii is and ideal location for families, or anyone who just wants to take a break and enjoy the lake, swimming, fishing, kayaking, and listening to the loons as you fall asleep.
What makes this Cottage unique
This is the opposite of going to Hampton Beach. Private lakefront, a bit of woods between our camp and the neighbors, the sound of loons, families on their docks, and screen doors. Plenty of options for day trips when people get antsy, then come back, have a fire, make s'mores and then fall asleep on the porch. All good.
100% refund for cancellations more than 60 days before check-in date.
Did not meet our expectations.
The location and screened front porch were ideal. The pond was beautiful and peaceful. The musty smell inside took us by surprise. We also did not expect to share the cabin with a squirrel that became most active at night preventing any restful sleep. It resided in the bedroom closet for the most part, however, did pop out at my daughter when she was in the bathroom on the other side of the wall. Waking up the first and second mornings to find mouse droppings all over the kitchen and our things had not been on the agenda. I spent the first morning washing the countertops, everything we used including the dishes/utensils and the coffee pot that had a decomposing beetle in the water chamber. I live in the country so I know how challenging mice can be, but when I reached for the salt and found mouse poop on the top, it was not a good feeling. The best part of our stay was outside for sure. We enjoyed sitting on the porch, the campfires, use of the canoe and the haunting call of the loons, but we agreed we would not consider a return visit.
Great location and enjoyed the available canoe and kayak.
Cabin as advertised was rustic but lovely. Everything we needed for supplies in kitchen and bath n bedding was there. We really enjoyed the location on the water and would go back again. Great for families .
Beautiful and quiet
The lake and area are lovely. Lori suggests sleeping on the porch which we did and loved hearing the sounds of the water and the loons. We had an impressive thunderstorm one night and the lightning over the water was breathtaking.
Cozy cottage on beautiful lake
Had a great family weekend at this authentic and cozy lake cottage. Loved having coffee in the mornings on the screened porch, overlooking the lake. Enjoyed lakeside bonfires and fishing from the dock. Having a canoe available was such a plus. We saw beautiful loons and even a bald eagle while out paddling. Great place for a peaceful getaway!
The house is warm and inviting, right down to the sunflowers and pumpkins!
The loons serenaded us morning and night. Loved being right on the water, able to hop right into the kayaks or fish right from the dock!
beautiful spot on quiet west pond
We had a great one week stay at the end of july. The house had everything we needed , even some good games and puzzles .The journal and ideas, brochures around the area to try were very useful . The fireplace was beautiful and came in handy on a cold july night. Our daughter slept on the porch and really enjoyed it besides the 6 am chipmunks one morning. They had a kayak which was fun and we were able to see 5 loons all together, an eagle in a tree across the water and some fish. Sitting on the dock was so peaceful and beautiful, can't wait to come back.
A small, fairly quiet area. Lakefront living, and lounging with all the necessary amenities. Located about halfway between the North Conway shopping/Mt Washington area and Portland seacoast/city life area. Great base for day trips to Storyland, Cog Railway, Portland concerts, canoe/kayak the Saco river etc. There are only 8 cottages on our side of the lake so fairly private and quiet.
Additional pricing information
Pricing in US Dollars. Security Deposit will be returned 7 days after departure if there is no damage or fees deducted. Security Deposit fees: $25.00 Excess Trash: We supply two, 30 gallon, trash receptacles. Due to our rural location, the population of raccoons, and lack of access to any dump/transfer station, any excess trash would have to be transported by cleaning crew which adds to hourly cost. $25.00 Excess Recycling/Returnables: Maine has a 5 cent deposit law. Please consider buying your beverages in Maine and then returning the bottles for the deposit. We have recycle pick-up but it is only 2X a month. If the recycles exceed our containers then the cleaning crew must sort and return them which adds an hourly cost. $25.00 Litter, there is just no place for this at the lake. It's such a beautiful spot that any cans, cigarette butts etc are just rude and painful to see, and require time to clean-up and properly dispose of. Our guests have been awesome and we operate on a little bit of a pay-it-forward policy. If one of the floats pops while you are using it, simply replace it with a comparable one. If you use up the last of the garlic powder, re-stock it...we try to keep it so that people have the basics available. It's nice to have coffee, half-n-half and sugar already there especially if you are arriving at night! Who wants to have to buy every condiment just for a week? IF SOMETHING more consequential is lost or broken.....such as a lost paddleboard paddle or light fixture, those WE NEED TO KNOW about and we'll figure out a solution that won't negatively impact the following renter. Changeover is tight AND on a Sunday, so we need to KNOW AHEAD of time in order to be able to replace it for the next guests. Litter (esp in the lake), outdoor smoking evidence, lost/popped floats, trash in recycles, pet waste...$25/incident Neighbor complaints: excessive noise/safety/out of control fires, unreported lost equip, any severe damage.....$250/full dep. loss
