About Geert Dhondt

My wife and I both work at the City University of New York in Manhattan and our three children attend public schools here in Brooklyn. We all take the local subway to go to work and school and are very familiar with the system.

Great apartment with good facilities

  • 4 of 5

The apartment is in a good location (10 min walk from Kingston-Throop subway). The 1st floor apartment is a good size with all the amenities you need. The stairs are very steep and a little uneven but apartment from that it's a good place to stay.

Really nice stay

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed staying in this apartment, it was a great experience! The host and his family were great, and Geert was very responsive and accommodating from start to finish. The food recommendations were all spot on. Someone else mentioned the walls being thin, which was true, but overall the location was fun to experience and we had enough space and a cool brownstone to live in for a few days. Great hosts and overall good experience!

Great stay in Brooklyn

  • 5 of 5

Geert is an amazing host. He is very accommodating and the apartment and location were perfect for our first trip to NYC. The apt was very comfortable and felt spacious. There is a book with suggestions for what to do in the neighborhood and beyond which I appreciated. The suggestions were real winners. There are 2 subway stations about a 10-15 min walk from the apt and my family and I felt very comfortable walking to and fro at all hours. I really appreciate how quick Geert was to respond to my questions. I usually had an answer within the hour. It was a great trip and I would definitely stay again.

PERFECT in every way!! 5 Stars!!!

  • 5 of 5

After months of searching for the perfect place, for our 1st trip to NY. I stumbled into this one. MAN, AM I SO GLAD I DID!!! The listing description was 100% accurate regarding the location, layout, amenities, etc? The property was clean and well- maintained. Geert, was awesome. Not only did he contact me before our stay to provide us information that we needed. He was there to meet us at the property and let us drop off our bags, since we arrived about 4 hours before check in time. Geert provided detail directions for anything and everything. We spent majority of our time in Manhattan, so don't let the Brooklyn address discourage you. The property is a perfect location for buses, and subway. The apt has everything you need and a lot of space!!! Also, my wife and I were walking late at night and never once did we feel unsafe! Love this place and will definitely try to stay here when we make our next trip to NY. Thank You Geert, you and your place was truly awesome!!

NYC getaway--they thought of everything

  • 5 of 5

First of all, our travel schedule had us arriving at 2:00 AM. Not a problem! The combination lock allowed us access. This was the first sign of hospitality. More signs--a notebook with neighborhood maps of restaurants, coffee shops, Laundromats, grocery stores, and the subway. In drawers were extra subway tickets, maps and guides of NYC, games, even converters for electrical items from Europe. The kitchen had every item for cooking or storage you could imagine, and there were coffee and filters available for first thing. The bathroom was well-stocked with linens, lotions, hair dryer, you-name-it.

The apartment was clean and comfortably furnished. We traveled with our 4 year old grandson who was delighted to have his own room and bunk bed with a light. There was enough privacy and space to entertain our son who lives in NYC in the evenings.

The neighborhood is one with a checkered history; it was apparent that many of the brownstones are in various states of renovation. This street had beautiful homes and gardens; we spoke to many of the residents as they sat outside on their stoops. At no time did we feel unsafe, nor did our son as he walked to the subway after our evening visits. The subway we used was a 20-minute walk (with a 4 year old). There was another one on the local line that was a bit closer. Access to transportation was not an issue. We used the subways wherever we went.

On our final day, we took advantage of the car service that they recommended. Their service was superb and the price was reasonable.

Before our stay, Geert sent detailed instructions about how to get there, how to get in, and other things to consider. He thought of everything which made this visit truly enjoyable. This is our go-to place whenever we go to NYC, and we will recommend this place to our friends and family who may travel as well.

I want to add that we had initially looked at hotels, but with a child, the prices grew exponentially. However, even if you are a couple, this is much more comfortable than a hotel room with a bed and TV, by far, and as reasonable (or even more so).

We loved the binder with helpful tips of surrounding area. There was nothing more we could have asked for during our stay.
