Property type cabin

Minimum Stay

About the property

4 Bedroom, 3 Bathroom, full kitchen and lots of amenities

A beautiful, spacious mountain retreat with stunning views of the entire town of Pine and the Matazal Mountains to the south. Completed in 2007, this 2,350 sq/ft home has 4 bedrooms, 3 baths and a full kitchen including, a microwave, dishwasher, pantry, and double ovens.

There are 3 bedrooms and 2 baths upstairs, as well as the kitchen, dining area, and family room. In addition, downstairs, there is a second master suite with a queen bedroom set and a sofa bed couch and an en suite bath with a stall shower. There is also a full laundry room including a mud room accessible from the garage downstairs. The garage is 1,000 sq/ft and is attached with parking for one car. The garage doors are 10 feet high so they can accommodate a large truck.

There are four TVs in total with DISH network. The master suite has an ensuite bath and an arcadia door that accesses the wrap around deck. The master also includes a large flat panel TV with a DVD player. There is a beautiful, stone-faced wood-burning fireplace in the family room upstairs. The kitchen and family room are open concept with comfortable seating, a leather couch and two leather recliners, a dining table that seats 8 and a pub table that can expand to seat an additional 4. The pub table also doubles as a puzzle table and is in front of the floor to ceiling chalet windows that capture the amazing views.

The cabin is situated on a 1.5 acre terraced, hillside lot in a small subdivision of custom homesites called Pine Mountain Acres. The neighborhood consists of approximately 40 homes on 1+ acre lots. It is a mix of full-time residents and weekenders. The property is located above Pine Creek and looks down on White Oaks Glen. It is an area that is traversed by deer and elk on their way to and from the creek. Large and small herds in the area come right across the property in the morning and late afternoon/dusk.

About Elana Nager owner/property manager

I am an Arizona native and I grew up in the valley and in Pine. My parents built a cabin in Pine in 1980 that we enjoyed on the weekends and holidays with friends and family. I have many wonderful memories of perfect springs, fabulous summers, colorful autumns and beautiful snowed covered Thanksgivings and Christmas'. We built this house on a hillside in the northeast corner of Pine in 2007 and have enjoyed it ever since. Pine is still the same small town I remember. The views are spectacular from every window and the wildlife is amazing. You can do as much as you want or nothing at all! It's all about how you define vacation time.

Elana Nager owner/property manager purchased this cabin in 2007

This was our first VRBO booking. Extremely pleased with the property and its owners. Elana responded quickly to every email/message I sent to her and was accessible when we needed our questions answered. Highly recommend this home to anyone looking for a quiet, relaxing vacation. My kids and family enjoyed every minute of this wonderful home overlooking the city of Pine. We can't wait to come back!

Dreaming of a White Christmas

  • 5 of 5

Our family stayed at this cabin over the Christmas holiday and it was lovely. The house is very spacious and has a great view. It snowed while we were there, which was very exciting for these Phoenix residents. We would stay here again.

Elana, your home is absolutely beautiful. We knew it would be from the pictures on VRBO, but pulling into the driveway and walking into the house took it to a whole new level (breath taking and awe inspiring!). I cannot begin to tell you how much we enjoyed your home and its peaceful surroundings and amazing wildlife. We have experience with many vacation rentals and we all agreed it did not feel like a rental property, it felt as if we were guests in your home. You have provisioned it with anything and everything we could imagine we might need. The quality of your home construction, the furnishings, the towels, the sheets, the kitchen appliances, cookware, the beds, the list goes on and on. Quality at every turn. It was absolutely perfect. All of your suggestions and information were greatly appreciated. You asked nothing of us that we don't expect in our own homes. The Ponderosa Market was great and everyone was very friendly. It was a breeze to drop our trash off at Tom's after our stay - thanks for letting us know. We were in town for my Son's wedding and it was a weekend memory we will never forget. It was our first time to Pine and we will be back. By the way, we are wondering if you have any other properties? Sign us up! Thank you, Elana! Anne

High marks on the "WOW"meter.

The hazard in writing a good review is that you may not be able to get it the next time because others have found out about your sweet retreat. Regarding the spectacular views, if it had not been for a misplaced mountain you could probably even see the San Francisco Peaks. This venue is so conducive to quality family time, talking, relaxing, and just" hangin out". The early morning visits by the elk was a treat. The stag and his family of 14 others were all busy trimming the shrubbery. Clever planning by the owners. Just have to do something about the "pellets". Perhaps my comment about the "droppings" will discourage you from considering this rental and you should not go any farther unless you want to relax, absorb the majesty of the vista below you and pity the gentry at your feet. I suppose one could find something that doe's not meet their expectations but, I chose to revel in the majesty of the mountains and I did.

Owner's Response: Thank you! Always enjoy hearing our guests had fun and the wildlife, is great to see. They travel through back and forth to the water and White Oaks Glen meadow down below. The view is unmatched and the house is very comfortable and conducive to relaxing. There are a variety of things to do around town and in the surrounding forests and communities, or you can do nothing at all! ENJOY!!

Exactly as advertised - Excellent - Beautiful

  • 5 of 5

We stayed 3 nights, 4 days which was not long enough. We had a fabulous time. The house is beautiful with a gorgeous view. Nothing the owners expect of you during your stay is unreasonable. Everything requested is to protect the beauty of the home. It has everything you need during your stay and is very comfortable. We were surprised how well stocked the whole house is with anything you would need from plenty of linens and such to anything you would need to prepare food in the kitchen. We were perfectly happy sitting out on the porch with the cool air and nice breeze. Everything was very clean. We went to Tonto and Fossil Creek as well as the Payson Rodeo. I have recommended this property to everyone I know if they are ever looking to get away. We will definitely be back again and it will not be soon enough. We can't say enough good things about this property.

Could be a great rental but owners need to decide if renting is for them or not. Not just the $$$

  • 2 of 5

My husband and I were in dire need of a relaxing getaway and found this cabin on VRBO and thought it would be just what we needed. We spent a decent amount for three nights which was fine to finally get that little R&R. When we arrived we were initially pleased that the home is what is pictured...the only slight variation with the wood floors not being actual wood. It is a linoleum floor. This wouldn't otherwise be an issue if it weren't for the unexpected "book."

When we arrived we were taken by the view...it is a great view of Pine. Then we entered the open kitchen where we were greeted by a white three ring binder with three pages of what to do in the home and what not to do in the home. Much of these three pages are marked up with a red marker underlining the "house rules" and making additional emphasis with little red asterisks. It would be normal to expect this to some degree...you are renting another persons home. What wasn't normal was this little book...it was way over the top. For instance...if you use the stove do not exceed a high temp of 7 or 8, if you use dishes or any utensils all must be hand washed...don't put in the dishwasher, when you prepare to walk in the house all shoes must be removed and left outside the front door...one would think they had nice flooring due to this....not the case, again, linoleum cheap flooring. It goes on and on for, again, three pages worth!

So, there is a significant pest problem with all sorts of flying and crawling critters at this place. To be expected in this area you could say. There is a light right by the front door that attracts these large and small pests. They flap all around the front door each night. Each morning there are big and small dead ones around the front door...this is where we were required to leave our shoes according to the house rules! Again, this a small sampling of the excessive rules. Due to this excessive restriction my poor husband who so desperately needed some down time could not unwind or relax AT ALL in this house. If it were a business I would ask for a refund... If these rules were provided ahead of time...wouldn't feel this way but they weren't. It was especially awesome when my husband had to kill a roach in the master bedroom on the main level which was the biggest I had seen in my life. Not normally a big deal in a cabin but for us in this very stressful rental was just the icing as they say.

Owner's Response: First, I would like to note that this guest sent 4 different reservation requests at the last minute, could not decide on the number of nights they wanted to book or the exact dates, but I accommodated all of their changes and cancellations and allowed them to check in even though they took so long to book, that I technically didn't have their payment cleared beforehand, but I trusted them. Secondly, they stayed all 3 nights and they never contacted me once to complain about anything during their stay, yet they publish this review. Third, many of the rules, instructions, etc...are there for example, because some people don't know that you can't flush anything except TP into a septic tank or that you can't burn anything in the forest or around the house. Or if you shut a front loader washer door while not in use, it will cause mildew. NO guest has ever claimed "the book" caused them so much distress that they couldn't relax. Much of what is in the folder is common sense for most guests. In addition, many of the most important rules are in the check in letter that everyone including this guest, receives before their stay. Lastly, I am dismayed by the comments about the insects, it's a forest and I do not control mother nature. Insects are attracted to light, so long as the doors are kept shut at night, the bugs stay outside, you can turn the lights on or off. There are countless windows that can be opened at night all of which have bug screens. Guests can go inside or outside at their discretion. I have regular pest control and no other reviews complain of bugs or really any of the issues in this review. I would also like to clarify that the cabin has tile, carpet and wood laminate, not linoleum. Nowhere in my description, do I claim to have real wood floors. The scratches on the laminate are part of the reason I don't have real wood at this time. Again, no one else has ever complained about my flooring or not wearing shoes in the house. In fact, probably 50% of guests thank me for that rule and say they do the same thing at their house. The notebook says you can keep your shoes downstairs at the bottom of the stairs inside, or just inside the front door, I don't make people leave them outside. If the rules were so stressful and they wanted a refund, they should have contacted me right away and checked out early and then I would have given them a refund, however, as I mentioned, they stayed all 3 nights and never called once to complain about anything.
