Catskills Secluded Log Cabin

Bedrooms 3
Property type cabin
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

3 Bedrooms, 1 Bathroom, Sleeps 8

This secluded one of a kind Catskill Mountain log cabin is 2 hours from the George Washington Bridge. The fully furnished cabin is clean, cozy and airy and is a great place for a family to get away to. The newly renovated kitchen is big and open and perfect for group cooking and gathering. It features a Viking stove, ice cream maker, Meile dishwasher and 2 sinks. The cabin features a wood burning fireplace; dining table big enough for 10; an out of tune piano, a great collection of both adult and children's books and board games; wireless high speed internet access is available as well as a 36 inch flat screen TV with a DVD player; stereo with multi-disc CD player and iPod jack with indoor and/or outdoor speakers; and a covered front porch. Outside is a fire pit, a fantastic tire swing, a sledding hill in winter, a tree house and a big front lawn, perfect for a football game or snowball fight.

The cabin is surrounded by 20 acres of private, quiet, beautiful woods, full of deer, turkey, squirrels, owls and chipmunks. Take a quiet walk along our babbling Thorpe Creek to the swimming hole or hike up the creek to explore magnificent waterfalls.

In the area- explore hiking trails in the Catskill Mountains, visit Olana - the home of Hudson River artist Frederick Church, shop at nearby organic farm stands, go antiquing in Hudson, visit yards sales, and jump into a local auction. Skiers! We're a 20 minute drive from Windham, 30 minutes from Hunter. Go swimming, fishing, horseback riding, cross country skiing and after, visit local Irish pubs with nightly musical entertainment. This is a perfect place to spend some relaxed time with the ones you love.

Well behaved pets okay.

About Ellen and Matt Dudley

I am an artist and Set Decorator for films and TV.

Ellen and Matt Dudley purchased this cabin in 1999

Why Ellen and Matt Dudley chose Catskills

We bought our cabin from the man who built it by hand. We've carefully added a chef's kitchen and an all-ply bathroom, making the cabin functional, enjoyable and beautiful, without diminishing the rustic simplicity.

The property is rugged and natural.

What makes this cabin unique

The cabin is warm in the winter, and cool in the summer months.

It sits on 5 cleared acres surrounded by 20 acres of woods. We love having complete seclusion, outdoor showers, campfires and access to nature.

The swimming hole is magical and the creek bordering the property affords hours of exploration.

Wildlife is happy and welcomed on our property. We have deer, turkeys, fox, groundhogs, tiny orange salamanders, hummingbirds, owls and geese. We hear the coyotes at night in the summer, but have never seen them.

Lovely secluded place. Great kitchen! Would definitely go again.

Quiet, uncluttered, elegantly rustic log cabin tucked away in the woods near a stream. You can't see anyone else from the cabin--just woods. It has a large, well-equipped cook's kitchen. Super-comfortable beds, couches, and chairs. Nice linens and pillows. Lots of good-quality games and books. Wonderful glass-front wood stove and easily-accessed wood supply for evenings by a fire. Upstairs 4-bed bunk room with its own couch area and TV is great for teens to get away from the adults. We were delighted there was no TV downstairs, encouraging us to read/socialize. But if you're a TV addict bring tablets or laptops to watch Netflix (WiFi is reliable and fast, so streaming worked fine). 20 minutes from Windham, which is where we went snowboarding for several days. Really cool, well-built treehouse (with fireman's pole!) in woods behind house. Looking forward to visiting again.

Minor caveats:

Stairway to second floor is dangerously steep, with uneven step pitch. And the upstairs balcony over the living room needs an additional lower railing. So the place is probably not for toddlers or the elderly.

The single bathroom is downstairs, so anyone with frequent nighttime needs should probably sleep in the downstairs bedroom.

Kitchen could use a microwave (although we got good at heating leftovers on the stove).

Front porch needs some support work.

Owner's Response: Hi John, thanks for the feedback. We're planning to rebuild the front deck in May. It will stretch across the front of the cabin to catch the early sun. Hope you'll come and enjoy it!

It was perfect. We really loved it.

  • 5 of 5

Great great place. The cabin was magnificent. Down to every little detail. Just an amazing atmosphere. It provided everything we needed and exceeded our expectations.

The property is so beautiful, calm and the vibe is perfect. We played in the yard with our dogs, went down to the stream and to the swinming holes and the dogs were in heaven the whole time. So we're we. We hiked, took walks, played in the tree house and got lots of great pics and videos. We were only there 4 days, wished it was longer, didn't want to leave and would love to go back. Just outstanding in every possible way!

Serene wooded inside and out - fabulous log cBin with all modern amenities -- great gas stove for cooking; well appointed kitchen; terrific views out windows; and walkable access to good waterfalls and trails. Couldnt be finer for rustic and comfort and quiet

Property is very nice and the cabin is much bigger when you walk in compared to looking at the pics.

  • 5 of 5

We all enjoyed our stay at this well built log cabin! I was very impressed when I first walked in the door! How open and spacious it is with the high vaulted ceiling over the living room. I also loved all the exposed round timber for the second floor over the kitchen, roof framing and all the load barring beams which came across horizonally and vertically in the living room. Being a carpenter, I can certainly appreciate the structure! Bedrooms are a nice size and the play area was also very spacious and impressive. Much bigger in person seeing it as seeing the pictures from the web site. We all which included my wife and our two kids(4 and 6) my wifes mom and sister and myself, had a pleasantly enjoyable stay and will highly consider staying here again. Next time it will be in the fall when the leaves are changing and the fires to be made are really nessesary!

Secluded without being too difficult to get to. Charming cabin with all of what you need and none of the distractions of what you don't. Only bummer was the weather.
