- English, French, German, Irish
I am originally from Ireland, but have lived in Texas for about 19 years - most of it in this neighborhood. We are avid travelers and over the years when we traveled to Europe with our girls, we would have loved a service like Homeaway to help us find interesting places to stay with more flexibility than a hotel. (We have always preferred to steer clear of the hotel chains, resorts and heavily touristed areas.) Our goal is for you to experience your stay as a house guest rather than a hotel guest so you can have the type of relaxed and comfortable experience that we always seek in our travels. In addition to English, I also speak French and some German and I am currently taking Spanish lessons.
Aedin purchased this Cottage in 2006
Why Aedin chose Manchaca
We like this neighborhood so much that when we moved house about seven years ago, we just moved 3 blocks down the street!
What makes this Cottage unique
Our home is on one acre in a very quiet and peaceful cul de sac and backs onto about 70 acres of undeveloped land. Sage Cottage is tucked away in a wooded area a short distance from our home. There is a very secluded in-ground pool available for our guests.
Smoking outdoors only
We are pet friendly - dogs and cats
We live about 100 yards away from the cottage and will be happy to help you with any questions, directions, recommendations of what to do in the area, etc. We are 25 mins. from ACL Festival and about 30 mins. from the Circuit of the Americas where the Formula 1 race takes place. We are a very relaxed household. We would like you to treat Sage Cottage as your home while you are here, but like the Boy Scouts leave it in better shape than you found it! We appreciate if you will restrict smoking to outdoors. We will provide ashtrays on the front and side porches. Remember, this part of central Texas has been in drought for several years and we have to be careful not to inadvertently start a wildfire. Our neighborhood is called Chaparral Park, (although you will not see any sign to say that you are in Chaparral Park). Chaparral means roadrunner and you may see a roadrunner or two as you enter and leave the neighborhood. There are lots of deer, many of our neighbors have chickens. In the winter, you may hear the coyotes at night. Other than the wildlife, the neighborhood is generally very quiet and is definitely a laid back zone. This would be a great location for a Travel RN. Sage Cottage is 20 minutes from Seton Hospital, Kyle; 25 minutes from either of Brackenridge Hospital in Austin or South Austin Hospital.

Wonderful Place to Disconnect
I stayed at the cottage for about a month so that I could get away from the daily grind and focus on writing. It was perfect; far enough out of the way to feel like you are out in the country, but close enough to the city to still have convenient access to retail/dining/etc. I didn’t do anything touristy, but if that’s your thing, downtown Austin is only a 30 minute drive and San Antonio is usually 90 minutes or less depending on traffic.
The hosts were out of town when I arrived, but breakfast fare was waiting in the refrigerator, and the air conditioner was running so I was comfortable right away. I was able to back my car up to the side porch and easily unpack the car through the double doors. This was super convenient for loading the car at the end of the trip as well. I had a few questions after I got settled and they were answered promptly, despite the hosts being away.
The place feels very private. I smoke, so I spent a fair amount of time on the front porch enjoying the shade and watching the rain when we were lucky enough to get a storm. I rarely saw or heard the hosts. They have a policy of not visiting unless there is an invitation or an emergency, which I appreciated since the goal of my trip was to be secluded. We did eventually meet at the pool and had a lovely conversation. They are very friendly and welcoming.
I believe some things have been updated since older reviews were written. The high-speed internet is easy to connect to and fast enough to stream movies. There is now small TV with a built in DVD player. It does not have cable, but local channels are clear on the antenna and there are some DVDs available along with the books and board games that others have mentioned. The floors appear to have been redone recently and are very nice. I don’t know if the stairs were redone, but I would NOT describe them as “narrow” or “steep” as was mentioned by another reviewer. I didn’t end up bring my dog, but there is now a gate at the driveway that encloses the entire yard, so he would have had plenty of space.
Overall, Sage Cottage was spacious, comfortable, clean, and had all the amenities that I expected. I would gladly stay there again. Thanks!
Great space, very cozy
Aedin's cottage in Manchaca was very neat and is the perfect home for four close friends!
My girlfriend and I loved this cottage! Great privacy. The furniture was comfortable and the the front porch was a huge plus! I would recommend it to any couple that would like a fun quiet weekend getaway.
I stayed here with my two small dogs. We were quite comfortable during our stay.
Very quiet area.
Charming and very comfortable.
Perfect for our family!
My children and I used this rental as a base for moving to Austin. We stayed here while looking for a house to rent.
It was perfect for us. There was breakfast waiting for us in the refrigerator when we arrived late in the evening.
When we got there the internet was not working (a problem off the property) and it was taken care of right away. The homeowners called the company and they came out to fix it the same day.
Everything was exactly as expected and exactly what we wanted.
Located about 15 minutes from ACL festival site via the recently-opened toll road (45) which connects to Mopac. About 20 minutes to downtown Austin except during morning and evening commutes when it takes about 35 to 40 minutes
