The Casale is an impressively three-story high country house dating from the seventeenth century, part of a real estate about 12 miles north of central Rome. It is, in fact, a typical rural building for the Roman countryside, whose noble yet rustic character has been left unspoiled after a thorough restoration.
A driveway lined with Roman pines leads from agricultural plots to a widening in front of the house, with a centuries-old oak in the middle and a unique chapel making a fine show.
The main entrance to the house is elevated above the body of the building, thus following a natural height difference in the surrounding park, so that the front door is upstairs on the central story.
As you pass through the door, you realize the movement of this construction and how rooms are designed to follow a path that conveys a sense of circularity and interconnection between different sections. The three stories are connected with each other by easy flights of steps, through which you can get a glimpse of how different the sections are for dimensions, exposures, furinishings and other aspects.
Past the vaulted hallway, the sitting room is on the central story: a sloping high ceiling in white tiles and wooden beams, several windows and French windows on two sides, and a fireplace as the pivot of this large room. Round the fireplace, on an elevated floor, there are a bookcase and a grand piano.
Also on the central story are the main private rooms of the house. A wide and finished bedroom with a view over the garden, an adjacent wardrobe with shutters made in cypress wood, whose resinous scent gently pervades throughout and, very conveniently, two bathrooms besides, one with a tub and another with a shower, the latter being adjacent to a study with a fireplace, air conditioning and a double sofabed. On the same level, there also is another double room, painted in orange, with a desk and a sofa, and another bathroom next to it.
On the upper story, there is a bedroom called 'the Madonna room' after a fine picture representing the Virgin Mary on the wall. It is a suite with a beamed ceiling, where the bed head and surrounding tapestries are all alike, also provided with air conditioning, wardrobe and bathroom including a tub as well as a shower. There is also a lovely loft on this story, with a single bed and a bathroom whose tub is decorated with wooden paneling.
A ring of rooms makes up the lower level of the house. There are two more double bedrooms, one with an adjacent bathroom with a shower and another one with a tub. The bedroom with flowered tapestries leads onto the garden. Another room next door can be used as a study or another single bedroom, because it is furnished with a desk and a convertible sofa. A bathroom with a tub is located between the study and one bedroom.
The very spacious and well equipped country-styled kitchen is situated on the lower level as well. Two fridges, oven and microwaves, dishwasher and gelato machine are in there. The house staff is lodged by the laudry on the same level. Dining rooms are two, one with a long table where up to 15 people can sit, another bigger one is set into the adjacent veranda and has fans for the summer and heater for the winter. During good weather, you may also enjoy mealtimes outside in the garden. Among oaks, hollies and cedars, there is also room for a swimming pool, a tennis court, and a fish basin with water lilies.
The finishing touches are put to the construction with a sense of consistency: cotto tiles and planks are predominant on the floors, as well as wood and bricks on the stairways. Prints, watercolors, etchings and family portraits make the ambience cozy all around. Every room and wardrobe is provided with a luggage rack.

A quiet location but close to Rome and the airport. Very comfortable and housekeeper and team are most helpful. Would certainly come back again.
We loved this house. While we knew it would be a great stay from the photos and the pre - arrangement support we received, the reality was even better - a real delight. We would definitely love to go back. The house staff were charming and so helpful, it was a joy to come to know them, reservations support from answering our many questions to arranging food to be in the house upon our arrival we just fantastic. The house is roomy yet very cosey, with each area having its own feel. a real family home we had the lucky pleasure to be able to share in and enjoy. It was also 40 mins outside of Rome and with taxis one night and the quick train connection another afternoon, we easily popped into the City centre for dinner one evening and shopping another day. The garden, grounds and pool area, also simple yet elegant. So special. A delight.
We had a fantastic family vacation in this amazing house. After full days of visits in the center of Rome, it was so relaxing and enjoyable to be in such a calm and serene place, with such a caring housekeeper paying attention to every details. It made our vacation so special.
We really felt something unique in this house: you could feel the warmth of its owners and the soul of their family.
Our kids (5 from 7 to 19) immediately had the impression to be "at home" and enjoyed the big lawns and the huge pool so much.
We are still dreaming of our breakfast and dinners on the terrace or in the summer dining room.
We hope to go back soon!
