About Nancy Lazarus

Rick and Nancy Lazarus live south of Ithaca and love Cayuga Lake and the sunsets from its east shore. This is our summer lake house, a quiet retreat.

Why Nancy Lazarus chose Cayuga Lake

The lake access and views are great, plus Bill George Road is a quiet and wooded road great for walking and bike riding. There are some houses on the lake side and a couple of small gorges. Great blue herons fly up and down the lake every day. Owls hoot at night. Rick is a timber frame barn restorer and he built this charming little house about 10 years ago.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We truly loved our stay and it reminded me so much of a family cabin we

used to enjoy. We have already thought about a return stay so don't be

suprised! Thanks again for sharing your little retreat.

Perfect weekend escape

Nancy was extremely accommodating, great host. The house was perfect for my boyfriend and I to enjoy a lake getaway. The house has everything you'll need from extra blankets, towels, spices, even water. I highly recommend this and will be back next summer!!

Perfect quaint getaway!

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I needed a few days to recharge and found this cute little cabin on our search for a somewhere to stay on a lake. Everyone should know that this cabin was built with love, and a 'tiny house' before they became a trend. The set-up was perfect for two people, snug yet open. It was lovely having three decks, we loved being out there reading, grilling, working on art, and taking in the beautiful views of the lake. The description of the cabin on VRBO is accurate and we appreciated the helpful notes in the home that helped us navigate little things like the grill, kitchen items, blankets, and tub. The little things such as flashlights were provided and thoughtful. There were a few water issues ( that just come with an older home) but the owners were very responsive and quick to attend to them. They were very caring and shared their favorite things to do/see in the area including nearby waterfalls you can walk to! A possible area of growth or something to consider for the cabin is for it to have one bigger pot and a stronger induction cooktop -- we tried to boil lobsters and would have enjoyed those two items, however we recognize not everyone needs them or like lobster :) We loved using the kayaks and sitting on the deck of the boathouse at sunset was one of our favorite parts of our stay. We highly recommend this for folks looking for a quiet weekend at the lake. I've seen in past reviews where occupants felt like it was more rustic than they expected, however I feel like one should expect there to be a few kitschy glitches that come with an older home; it's nothing to be concerned about, just dont expect modern amenities, it is a cabin after all. Many thanks to the Lazarus family for our weekend at their cabin, we will surely be returning!

Quiet, comfortable and cozy

  • 5 of 5

This is a charming, hand built cabin on Lake Cayuga; close to vineyards, farmlands, waterfalls and Ithaca if you want lunch at the Moosewood Café! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The cabin is small but comfortable, beautifully designed and very nicely appointed - there is just about any kitchen utensil that you might have use of ( a salad spinner! ); the appliances, though simple are very efficient; and in case you forgot your reading materials, there is a small library there with interesting books. We sat on the deck out side with coffee, listening in the morning to the loons, wood thrushes and woodpeckers. Took the kayaks out and explored the shore, slept soundly in the little loft and a large, incredibly sweet Maine Coon Cat named Wembley strolled down from the neighbor's house to visit. We were happy and relaxed when we left and would return in a moment's notice. Thank you, Nancy for sharing your very cool home.

I wish we could have stayed longer. Lots of waterfalls near by to explore. The boat house is right on the water supplied with kayaks. The water is clean. Coffee was supplied which was very appreciated. The bed was comfy. Next time were coming for a week instead of a weekend.
