Cozy apartment and great location

  • 5 of 5

My daughter and I truly enjoyed our stay at St. Jacques apartment. A cozy, worn in space in a great central location. Loved the locked corridor entrance to the courtyard off the street. Felt like one was entering something authentic and timeless. The worn stair climb and double key lock turn removed "tourist" from one's mind, and replaced it instantly with "traveller."

A five minute walk to Notre Dame and easy walking distance to all of Paris. A wonderful first visit for my daughter and a delightful return trip after many years for me.

Jean and Myriam were prompt and responsive and helped make the trip hassle-free.

Merci et a la prochaine !

nice location

  • 3 of 5

the location was great! I feel that some simple amenities that should be included, were not. There was no shampoo, soap, coffee, etc. I inquired to the rental agent, and never received a response, so I had to go buy them for our short stay. Otherwise, it was nice.

Owner's Response: Hi Lisa, Thanks for your review and glad to know you found the apartment to be nice and in a great location. I searched and didn’t find your request otherwise we would have answered quickly. Why didn’t you call Myriam who greeted you in the apt ? She always answer or contact back our guests. For the amenities, as mentioned in the instructions and lease agreement filled before your stay, we provide the basics for arrival and once in the apartment our guests do as if they were home. You will understand that many guests stay for weeks and that we are offering apt rental not hotel service, it is a very different experience allowing to live like a Parisian. We can offer services on request but it of course implies a fee as products have to be bought and delivered by and external company. Sincerely, Jean

Small and very old. Uncomfortable bed!

  • 2 of 5

In the picture looks like a nice place but it is super old... The bathroom is very small and the bed is very uncomfortable.

The location is fine.

Owner's Response: Hi Kory, Thanks for your review. Feedback is always useful to improve what can be. The building is definitely an ancient building located in the oldest and most central part of the city. The stairs date from the 17th century! The furniture is also ancient, as mentioned in the description the desk is an original on which the writer berthold Brecht was writing is novels. So far, as the rest the kitchen and bathroom are new, as well as the painting. It allows to enjoy modern comfort in centuries old buildings. The bathroom is small that is true, very common in old Parisian apartments as there was of course no dedicated bathroom before 20th century and they were added later in what space was available. We understand some guests may not appreciate the ancient look. In another way many guest book the apt for this specific spirit. Concerning the mattress we do not get regular complaints, it is a matter of taste, otherwise we would act on that point. We do respect your opinion but unfortunately cannot act on your remarks. It is part of the apartment charm. We would be happy to propose you an apartment located in a modern building for a next visit. Sincerely, Jean

Lovely, cozy and comfortable

  • 4 of 5

The location of the "Jacques" apartment can't be beat. A two minute walk to Notre Dame, Ste. Chapelle, and the Ste. Michelle Metro which will get you everywhere else. The Louvre and Musee D'Orsay were but a 15 minute stroll. Lots of options for groceries if you plan on eating in, including a totally fabulous open-air market around the grounds of the Jardin Cluny. The apartment was clean, very charming and comfortable. White washed walls, dark wooden ceiling beams and terra-cotta tile floors--we felt très français. Our young kids slept on the very comfortable, pull out sofa--it became two twin beds--but noted that the noise from the street was a little bothersome. It was cool enough in October (during our stay) to close the street-facing windows so sleeping was fine. The main bedroom located in the back was very quiet. Its windows opened to a central court for the building. A couple of cautionary points for those who like the typical hotel stay: Because the apartment's in a very old building, there is no elevator, and it is on the fourth floor. Pack lightly! The bathroom is not a high-end experience. It's small and could use a little attention to the tile work and caulking around the half-bath tub/shower, but it was perfectly adequate for us. The kitchen was fine if a bit low on drinking glasses (plenty of wine glasses!!) and spoons (but hordes of forks and knives!). Hardly major drawbacks. All in all, I recommend this little charmer as a place to collapse at the end of a long day of sightseeing.

Good location, "Rustic" apartment

  • 3 of 5

"Rustic" apartment, walking distance for most attractions. Narrow steep winding stairs would make it tough for older couples. Best for young adventurous couples looking for a low cost convenient location.

Owner's Response: Hi Mike, Thank you for your review. We always use reviews to improve our service or the apartment. The design of the apt can be seen on the photos. We believe they describe the apt as it is. There was never a complaint of misrepresentation. Obvioulsy, the apt is not designed in a modern way. Nevertheless all the modern comfort is there, kitchen, bathroom. We believe “rustic” is a strong word. This apts will not fit for guests who are looking for modern design. Some may appreciate that the actual desk of Berthold Brecht writer is in the apt. It is similar for the stairs. The stairs date from the 17th century. There is a wonderful tile drawing on the last floor. It is classified as historic by the French Ministry of Culture. For most of our guests this is part of the charm they are looking for. We understand not everybody will appreciate. Sincerely, Jean-Noel
