Overview

Photos and Description of this 3 bedroom holiday home in Kauai - Wainiha Beach Hale

3 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, Sleeps 6

Traveling north past Hanalei, you enter the dense jungle and intense blue waters of Kauai's far north shore. There are no words that can describe nature's beauty in this region. Many beaches, including tunnels and ke'e, are in the area. Trail heads for some of the most memorable hikes on earth are nearby.

The Wainiha beach house brings you old style Hawaii in a jungle setting with a stream flowing in your back yard. Built in 1963 of Polynesian design, the house was the dream of Peggy Slater, known as the Amelia Earhart of sailing. Waterfalls, rainbows, crashing surf, fragrant flowers and exotic colorful birds will surround you. Home has high speed wireless internet, phone, cable tv, and full kitchen.

Bedroom 1 has a King bed. Bedroom 2 has a King bed and Bedroom 3 has a Queen bed. There is A/C in the master bedroom.

Guestbook comments from the manager

The house was beautiful and the scenery around us was amazing! The house is an older home, but has so much character. The three bedrooms are "railroad" style where one is right after another, so you have to go through each room to get to the living area if you are at the very last room. (So keep in mind that there isn't much privacy) But, there are doors for each room that lead to the front lawn, so you can avoid going through each room if you don't mind going outside, then through the front door. Everyone was happy at the house and would go back again when visiting Kauai.

The beach is directly across the street and is a beautiful view to wake up to every morning. The only thing is that it isn't very easy to get to, but there are other beaches less than 5 minutes away that you can drive to.

Reviewer Comments:

Fantastic location on the north of the island. We absolutely loved it. Close to all the great hikes we wanted to go to. View on our "private beach". Hanalei, with all sorts of restaurants, is only a few miles away. Even though the road in front of the house is quite busy, it is surprisingly peaceful. Falling asleep on the sounds of the waves is priceless. A lot of space for a family of six. Nice to have the AC in the back rooms from the few humid days. The only negative was, in general, the slow responds from the management. The phone line was not working and they never repaired it.

Definition of Paradise!

  • 5 of 5

We instantly felt at home in this house! It has everything you need to live, just like home. We stayed here for 11 nights. It was spacious for the 6 of us. Loved that we could open the windows all throughout the house and have the breeze flow through! The day we checked in the neighbors dog came and greeted us. That was very welcomed as we have dogs at home. He was a caramel colored small breed dog named Keoke (not sure if I spelled that right but, it's pronounced like key-o-key). The next small breed dog that came and hung out is white with brown spots, his name is Lucky. They were both very friendly, sweet dogs. The backyard was nice and private. But, I warn you!! The mosquitos will eat you alive, lol! We tried everything but straight deet. I think they are immune to OFF and Cutter. We even bought some essential oil naturopathic stuff at Big Save in Hanalei. It worked better than Deep Woods OFF and Cutter. But, after about an hour or so it wears off and the feast continues lol. The house is right off Kuhio Hwy and traffic can get pretty busy but, not distracting to us. When backing out of the drive way, just be sure to go slow. Our favorite beach to go sunbath was at Haena Park. The water there is really rough but, for just laying in the sun it's perfect! For food we went to the Big Save market in Hanalei. They surprisingly had a lot of stuff! For being so far north and not many options, their prices weren't to bad. The house has everything you need to make a full meal. The coffee maker is awesome and the toaster was really high tech! We would stay here again and we miss our home of 11 days! MAHALO! <3

Wainiha Beach Hale was a perfect spot for our girls trip on Kauai. We loved the north end of the island! It was quiet, beautiful, close to the beach, and made the trip feel so tropical. The house was older but so adorable. It had plenty of space, a fully functioning kitchen, nice beds, and a backyard / front yard with a grill. This part of the island is remote (no cell service at the house) so if that is what you are looking for then you will love it!

We wanted a rental on the North Shore because we planned on hiking the Na Pali Coast. The rental in Wainiha was the perfect location. Close to Na Pali but also close to Tunnels Beach and the town of Hanalei. Rental was clean. Beds were comfortable. Beach chairs were available. But be forewarned that the place doesn't have supplies like bath soap, paper towels, and coffee filters. The closest grocery store is in Hanalei, 15 minutes away.

Calm, spacious and relaxing house

  • 4 of 5

We rented this lovely house for a week. We were 2 adults and four kids. The house is spacious with three bedroom, 2 queens and one king bed. To bathrooms with shower and toilet, and an additional outside shower. Large living room and dining area. We enjoyed the stay at this house, it is situated in a tranquil area, but a bit far from shops i.e., so rental car is needed.

The house is really close to the ocean and a beautiful beach, you will hear the ocean and the waves! But there is no swimming at this beach due to strong current and big surf. You need to go 3 - 10 minutes to either side for nice beaches. We especially recommend Hanalei beach, where we took surfing classes and Anini beach that was calm and a perfect spot for swimming and playing for our little ones. Beautiful sights near by and lots of things to do like hiking, swimming, padling, surfing, seigtseeing, shopping and dining at the nearest town Hanalei. There is also a general store just up the road, but they had few items. So you should rent a car and shop on your way to the house.

The only drawback was the road passing in front of the house, between you and the ocean. It is no heavy traffic road, but still is in your sight while looking at the ocean.

Nice and clean house. The caretaker was easy to deal with and answered our questions rapidly.

Old HAWAII at it's BEST!

  • 5 of 5

We fell in love with this charming home built by the pioneer of women's sailing (Peggy Slater)....The locale feels like something out of a movie....rainbows in the morning and falling asleep to the sound of the ocean added to the ambience. Loved the comfortable new mattresses and tropical surroundings . We even got to pick our own stalk of bananas. We were so close to Tunnels beach and Ke'e, and there was a sushi restaurant (Sushi Girl) within walking distance. If you want to experience Kauai's north shore, this is an authentic way to do so.
