Overview

Photos and Description of this 5 bedroom holiday cottage in Upper Peninsula Michigan - The Love Shack

5 Bedrooms, 1 Bathroom, Sleeps 9

This cozy cottage is the perfect family get away. The kitchen is well equipped and linens and towels are provided. The home has 5 bedrooms & 1 bath. There is a queen bed & private balcony on the upstairs master and a queen bed right off the living room in the downstairs master. There is a gas fireplace in the living room for chilly evenings, a flat screen TV with a dvd player, there are also many games, books and cards for your enjoyment. It has a large yard with lots of room for little ones to play. Look out of your glass enclosed porch with a glass of wine or a cup of coffee and watch the ferries shuffle people to Mackinac Island. There is a public boat launch waiting for your boat 300 yards away. The cottage is in a perfect location for access to all the interesting points in the U.P. Only a few blocks I-75 or US-2 and only about a mile from the Mackinac Bridge. You can easily make day trips to Mackinac Island, Tahquamenon Falls, Pictured Rocks or Sault Ste. Marie, but don’t forget about all the happening in St. Ignace itself. Fireworks every Saturday (in season), movies in the park, music on the Bay, wine tasting in town, and so much more.

Thank You

About Mark

Lori & I have been coming up to St. Ignace for twenty two years. Being professional photographers we loved the scenery and fell in love with the people. After ten years of looking for our own little piece of heaven we stumbled upon The Love Shack.

Mark purchased this cottage in 2008

Why Mark chose Upper Peninsula Michigan

The location of the love shack is perfect. When we bought the home it had been vacant for many years. Noone saw what we saw. We have redone almost everything but as we all know the work of an older home keeps us jumping. It is close to town and all the happenings. The views are wonderful and with 4 children in our family the playground is right down the street.

Great

Me and my friends had an awesome time there. There are a ton of beaches nearby, and it is a minute away from an alley of all kinds of stores. A perfect mini vacation package if you ask me!

A Work in Progress

  • 1 of 5

Pros:

Nice 2nd floor deck; washer and dryer available; plenty of room, convenient to attractions

Cons:

Still a work in progress--unlevel floors, doors, that need work, unsightly ceilings, noisy location, limited TV package (no ESPN, CNN, FOX news), needs some paint and cleaning. No A/C

Family Vacation 2015

  • 4 of 5

This was home base for our family vacation. The location is very convenient to downtown St. Ignace for site seeing and close to a grocery store for needed supplies. The only downside to the location is there was quite a bit of commercial traffic in the early morning going to the docks. The house had plenty of bedrooms for us (5) so everyone had their own space. The only bathroom was good size but needs some serious updating (low water pressure, door would not close, toilet ran often). The rest of the house was OK but really old and in need of some remodeling. Kitchen had the needed supplies but again required some updating to make things more convenient for guest (coffee maker is broke, oven does not work well). Windows worked well but most interior doors did not close. We utilized the outdoor firepit every night and really enjoyed that. Overall this house is a good value for the price.

Family sight-seeing in UP

  • 4 of 5

Great location to use as base for upper peninsula attractions. Good value for a family. I would only suggest frequent spider control to keep the critters away.

Needs Major Work Done!!

  • 2 of 5

We had reserved this place for four nights on our vacation to St. Ignace and it was so gross we ended up getting a hotel...it was dirty, creepy, and it smelled awful...the oven had burnt cheese on the rack and bottom of oven from previous renters, the bathtub was black from dirt, no a/c so had to leave windows opened and large very loud commercial trucks started going by at 4:30 am, dishes were dirty, electrical wall sockets hanging out of wall, floors slope bad, furniture was very uncomfortable, it smelled like mildew and mold. Needs major repair or as my son says needs to be condemned. Sorry for leaving such a bad review but I want others to know its bad!! Save your money and go to the Breakers Resorts just down the road...plus they have free breakfast!!

Owner's Response: We are truly sorry for your experience. As with any of our renters we are here 24/7 for any of concerns we have duing you visit. Unfortunatly we cannot fix issues that we are not made aware of. Every advertisment we have posted states "RUSTIC". We are not for everyone:) We are a hundred plus year old home in the middle of it all. A place most families feel they can relax and get away for a bit. Sincerely, Mark & Lori

Mackinaw Trip 2015

Home was located conveniently located to downtown St. Ignace. Good price & nice park with a pier near by. A bit of high traffic. Commercial trucks & personal vehicles.
