'Studio C' is situated in one of the mill buildings, an independent part of the historic 200 year old complex. We were featured on the nationally broadcasted HGTV's program 'reZONED' a series celebrating outstanding repurposed living spaces in the North America.
Our space was featured in Adirondack Life Magazine's (Feb 2015) article 'Radicle Rentals'.
An open apartment with big windows and great views, new outdoor deck with table/chairs, big sun umbrella, gas grill. Working antique wood stove, well equipped kitchen, big fridge, complete bathroom with large shower. The romantic getaway features an unique king-size bed and platform perfect for a couple.
Our guests live within the nationally recognized sculpture garden docs/ and have easy to the river and lake for swimming, kayaking, canoeing, rafting etc.
We are working sculptors - and for those interested we are delighted to open our studios, gallery and sculpture garden.
I live and work here with my partner sculptor Caroline who is originally from Austria and speaks English, German, French and Italian. We are both international recognized sculptors (please Google our names: John Van Alstine, Caroline Ramersdorfer). We would be delighted to share our garden, studios and large indoor gallery and all that the wonderful Adirondacks have to offer with our guests.
John and Caroline purchased this apartment in 1987
This historic property, with its 6 independent buildings, nestled on the banks of a mountain river is an artist's dream. To live, create and exhibit our work in such a beautiful part of the world is an extraordinary and wonderful privilege and something we would love to share it with our guests!
Beyond all the wonderful things the Adirondacks offer - our unique space affords our guests a chance to live within our 9 acre sculpture garden, and if they wish, stroll in our huge indoor galleries, visit our studios, see us at work and come away with memorable insights into how our enchanted location has a strong and positive effect on our creative process.
Our stay at Studio C for four nights was one of the best we have had at a vacation rental. We have stayed at many vacation rentals and B&B's around the Northeast and Studio C is now at the top of our list. The 9 acre sculpture garden is fantastic and provides a very peaceful and quite setting for the rental. The rental is very spacious with great kitchen, comfortable bed, and wonderful wood stove - perfect for our fall getaway. The region around Wells and Speculator (just north a few miles) provides many choices for hiking and kayaking and other Adirondack towns (North Creek, Saratoga, and Lake George) are a reasonable drive from Studio C to find additional outdoor activities, dinner, lunch, and shopping options. The owners (John and Caroline) were wonderful, responsive, accommodating, and took time to give us a tour of the sculpture garden and studios. We will definitely be back to Studio C.
We had a wonderful time! Studio C is amazing and we have already recommended it to friends. It was comfortable and cozy, yet extremely spacious, and decorated with John's and Caroline's exquisite artwork and unique touches. The sculptures and workshop/studios are very impressive and compliment an already beautiful property. I thoroughly enjoyed being on the river. It was peaceful and meditative and made for a refreshing swim each morning. Then having coffee outside on the patio, or at the riverside niche, was a perfect start to the day. We took a scenic bike ride around the lake one morning. The bikes were high quality and made it a pleasure negotiating the Adirondack hills. Because we had family members in Wells we spent much of our time participating in the many other adventurous ADK activities, therefore we did not get to know John and Caroline as well as we would have liked. But they were very gracious, accommodating hosts and we greatly appreciated that they share this wonderful place. What a fantastic week! Was it really a week? Looking forward to next year.
The space was great -- Julie, the caretaker was a fantastic greeter and very helpful. Would love to go back when more of the area is open for the season and explore a little more of the surrounding mountains, etc. But again, Studio C was fantastic and everything we had hoped for!
This was a Christmas present for my husband. Friends of ours stayed in Studio C over the summer and loved it so when I was searching for weekend getaways this was a no-brainer. The space was beautifully decorated, very comfortable and clean. The owners were very nice and welcoming. We were hoping to do some snowmobiling during our visit but due to lack of snow we wandered to Lake George and explored around there. We found an amazing restaurant there Bistro LeRoux. We would definitely recommend this place to friends and we will be back!
Talk about exceeding expectations... This property is amazing! The compound's river frontage and mountain views provide an exquisite setting for a collection of sculptures... From permanent installations to works in progress, this is more than just a sculpture park... It is in fact a living breathing indoor/outdoor artist's workshop amidst the natural splendor of the Adirondack mountains.
Studio C, the rental space on the premises, doesn't disappoint with all the modern accoutrements harmoniously coexisting with vintage industrial pieces that are art in and of themselves... Case in point, the peninsular brand parlor stove circa 1900, which will keep you warm on cold mountain nights... I'd be remiss not to mention the platform bed, which is just as comfortable as it is big... Last but certainly not least, more of John and Caroline's sculptures never let you forget what a special and personal place this is... Staying here really is a unique lodging experience... I can't wait to go back in the summer!
Once again, we had a wonderful time at Studio C. The studio is as beautiful as it appears in the pictures with very comfortable and spacious living space having a nice kitchen and comfortable bed. We especially liked the warm wood fires in the stove/fireplace each cool Adirondack night. We loved wandering around the property to view the magnificent sculptures, beautiful autumn colors, and sitting down by the river to listen to the water rush by. John is a great host; making sure we were settled in and answering any questions we had. He gave us some tips on where to kayak (Mason Lake was great) and also gave a tour around his studio space. We're sorry we missed Caroline this time around. We are already talking about planning another visit!
Thank you again,
Neil and Chris
