|Minimum Stay||4 - 14 nights|
Two bedroom Ocean front villa, large patio set in a tropical garden; the front lawn was used in the filming of the recent 2016 Season 20 finale of the Bachelor with Ben Higgins while staying at Brown Shuggah, Chukka Cove!
Conveniently located between the resort towns of Ocho Rios and Runaway Bay on Jamaica's North Coast, and tucked away at Chukka Cove, Villa 1 provides unique access to a truly Jamaican experience.
Villa 1 is far from pretentious, it is a warm and inviting 'real' home set on a farm and hidden amidst pastures and lush foliage on the edge of dramatic ocean front cliffs in a rural setting. With recently upgraded furniture and new renovated modern kitchen it's nothing like the mega all inclusives, it sits in a lovely groomed area shared with only five other villas. Here in the country, you may wake up to the sound of roosters, can listen to the crickets and frogs songs at night. Of course, like all farms, the villa has its own resident cat fondly called 'Puss or Reds"' and the friendly neighbour dogs occasionally come for a visit.
So immerse yourself in the real Jamaica and soak your cares away in the turquoise waters of the cove or in the private pool used only by Chukka Cove villa residents. A safe place to vacation without being locked in a compound!
Your private paradise has a master and second bedroom both with full ensuite bathrooms on the upper level. The master suite includes a seperate living area with futon, desk and sliding doors out to a small covered balcony with an incredible ocean view, the perfect place for your morning coffee. We recommend 4 adults and 1 child max.
Downstairs, the dining room boasts large folding doors that open onto an expansive furnished patio shaded by a Passion fruit vine. A powder room, kitchen and laundry room complete the lower level.
The cliffs at Chukka Cove are dramatic and extensive, great for exploring or simply listening to the sound of the waves crashing ashore. On calm days, a ladder takes you into the cool clear waters.
On property is a small sandy cove, safe and perfect for young children to swim and play. On days when the sea swells are up and you seek calmer waters, a two minute walk east along the edge of the polo field takes you to the spectacular Chukka Cove, a sheltered bay where the waters are always calm and cliff jumping, swimming and snorkeling are the order of the day.

Originally from Ocho Rios, we are a family of three brothers who live, work & play in Jamaica. Marc, Daniel Jr & I love our beautiful Island, 'The land of wood and water'. Dad built the villa in 1985 as a family weekend getaway to relax, unwind and play our favorite sport, polo. We work hard and we play hard!
We invite you to share our home away from home and enjoy the true Jamaican experience.
The amazing scenery, breathtaking views of the cliffs and the Caribbean sea, as well as access to all activities at Chukka where it's always Play Time. It's safe, quiet and serene.
The stunning view of the sea from the upstairs balcony offers an ambiance of tranquility and peace. The large landscaped grounds, and hidden coves provide the perfect getaway. The villa is fully staffed, sit back and enjoy the simple pleasures!
Yeah Mon, we had a perfect time at paradise villa with all Jamaican way of feel alright: Reggae festival in Ocho Rios, Bob Marley tour :), Dunn's River Falls and for sure Carleen cooking Jamaican dinner and breakfast; Ridley playing backgammon!!!
Thank's a lot for all you've done for us to feel like in paradise!!!
Not having vacationed in Jamaica before and trying a villa rental for the first time, we did not know what to expect. From making the reservations to arriving in Jamaica, the stay and then back home, everything was handled efficiently and at a high level of service.
The villa was right on the ocean and Janet, the property manager was able to help stock the refrigerator with supplies prior to our arrival. She came to visit one day and gave us advice on what excursions we should go on. Bedrooms are air conditioned and it was great waking up to the sunrise sitting in the living room every morning. The grounds were very well maintained. Both Andy & Anthony did a great job maintaining the property. Andy even came over to show our 21 year old son how to fish the local way without a rod!
Now let's talk about Ms. Carleen. She is the BEST!!!! She keeps the whole villa in great condition and also took care of us daily. Everything you have read is true. She is the best cook ever!! Her roast chicken, curry goat, oxtail and a whole host of local dishes are to die for. She surprised our daughter one day by baking her banana bread and a carrot cake! Because our daughter loved fruits, Ms. Carleen had a platter of fruits waiting for her every afternoon when we came back from our activities. 2 thumbs up for Ms. Carleen.
There is a pool on the property and the cove is great for shelling and there is a spot for snorkeling. We went to Duns River Falls, went horse back riding..........all of which Ms. Carleen helped with the arrangements. Also don't forget there is a 25% discount on all Chukka activities while staying at the villa.
When we reserved the villa, we had put down a security deposit. That was refunded to us within 48 hours of our return to the US. Thank you Trish for being so efficient and during a weekend too!
We would definitely recommend this villa to anyone.
We stayed at this villa while traveling with our 15 year old nephew. We loved every moment on the island. We rented a vehicle and fell in love with the people of Jamaica. Everybody has a smile on their face. I had an excellent experience starting with booking and communication with Trish. She is so helpful, professional, and super quick to respond. When we arrived we were so impressed. The house is amazing and the cliff is so magical. Now we know how we want to retire one day. We arrived in the evening so we didn't have a change to meet all the wonderful people who take care of the property, the guys and Carleen. What a woman. So sweet and kind. She kept the house super neat and cooked the best chicken eveeer for us. Thank you!
The villa has great indoor and outdoor spaces. Carlene cooks and looks after the place and she is lovely. Great cook and a kind soul that is super easy to get on with. She cooked a lot of knockout dishes, but the dishes with ackee and breadfruit fresh from the tree beside the house were a highlight. The owners were totally professional and easy to deal with. The villa is well maintained. The day we left they were starting some renovations, so I imagine it is now even nicer than when we were there, and we had zero complaints. The cove down the lane is great for swimming and snorkeling. There is a supermarket a short walk away and the area around was quiet and completely hassle free. Great for a relaxed get away
Myself and family are typically in Jamaica about twice a year but what made this trip different than others was staying at Villa 1. The views, loving spirit from staff as well their acceptance of our American family staying also in Jamaica at the same time and our Jamaican family and friends was more than I could have asked for. Typically you're nervous about staying at a new place but the moment we arrived we were greated with smiles which made everything ok! Great laughter as well as just the right amount privacy. I felt safe! We even learned about the different trees and the many health benefits associated with them.
Much of our time was spent on the patio listening to good music enjoying the sounds of the ocean. The house was clean, food was excellent and days when we traveled dinner was waiting for us.
As always we stopped at Scotchies on the way in but our favorite place is Mom's where the food is always everything! While at the Villa we had Oxtails, saltfish and ackee, Mutton, Chicken feet oh gosh we had the best Oxtails in case I didn't mention them! We're Jamericans. We went to the Southwest side of the island (Saint Elizabeth) for fish on the beach and stopped for yams and saltfish on the way!
I'm looking forward to coming back, sitting on the patio and adding on to my Jamaican family (the staff) all while watching beautiful horses every morning. Oh yea and my daughter loves the donkey!!!
Thanks for making our stay as effortless as possible. The staff Carlene, Ridley, Horace, Anthony and Janet were all very nice and welcoming. We look forward to our next stay!
My wife Kay and I stayed at Villa 1 at Chukka Cove from January 10-19th of 2016. This was our first trip to Jamaica. We were looking for a place that was somewhat private, safe, was close to water, and where we could get gluten-free food. We were NOT disappointed! We felt blessed by the people we met and our calm and beautiful environment.
The villa included a cook/cleaning person named Carleen. She was AMAZING! Carleen’s meals were always something we looked forward to. In addition, Carleen was so kind and thoughtful, she made us feel welcome and at home (away from home). Carleen was always willing to answer questions, cook to request, and share her cooking skills with us. In addition our villa was always clean and picked up.
The weather was perfect during our visit. The view from our villa was amazing and never got old. There is nothing that can match the beauty of the Caribbean water! It was breath-taking. In addition, since our villa was so close to the water, we could be in the water (via a short ladder) in seconds. The water was clear and so warm, pretty much perfect! In addition to the swimming area so close to our villa, a more secluded cove was just a 3 minute walk down the road. We visited the secluded cove every day and enjoyed all the beautiful fish and the ability to be in the water even during days when the water would be rough anywhere else.
During our stay we visited with the manager Janet concerning any questions or issues and anything we needed was provided promptly. We were impressed with Janet’s concern for our happiness and her ability to be responsive to our needs.
Will we be back to Chukka Cove? YES!! It’s one of the best vacations we have ever had.
Upon arrival there was a hot meal in the oven. We were late because of customs, and did not expect the meal since we were so late. It was there, as was Carleen with her beautiful smile. We were treated like family, and we returned the favor and treated them as family. We made a video of Ridley telling us some stories. Our family has enjoyed watching that very much. Carleen is an amazing cook and treated us to all kinds of delightful food. The house is pretty, and the rooms were comfortable. It was so relaxing and peaceful. Loved doing the Bob Marley tour through Chukka Cove tours. Did a video of the horses going to the barn in the morning, how beautiful. Everyone we met was awesome. Loved Tony the gardner as well. The three ate with us almost every meal, and it was such a blessing! We played domino's with them, and that thrilled my husband! We made friends that we will stay in touch with.
The swimming cove was perfect. Went out to eat at Scotchies, once. It was good but we wanted to be with our new "family". The place is really nice with one exception. The kitchen. It needs a remodel. It is aged, and Carleen sure deserves a more modern kitchen to cook in. I hope the Melville's will update that for her one day soon. That said, it was truly the perfect vacation, and the crew associated with this house is top notch!! I recommend this place highly. The view is mesmerizing!!!!!
Villa 1 sits on the cliffs that were used in the filming of the 1973 film “Papillion” starring Steve McQueen and Dustin Hoffman, and in 1985 Walt Disney’s mini series “Return to Treasure Island” was also filmed at Chukka Cove.
The cliffs were also used in the filming of the recent 2016 Season 20 finale of the Bachelor with Ben Higgins while staying at Brown Shuggah, Chukka Cove!
