Overview

Photos and Description of this 3 bedroom holiday cabin in Scotland - Ruskin Lodge, Near Dunoon

3 bed, 1 bath, sleeps 6

Ruskin Lodge Argyll has recently been completely refurbished and offers a welcoming and comfortable home-from-home. The lodge sleeps up to 6 people in 3 bedrooms. There are 2 king-sized beds and 2 singles, which can be made into a third double bed. Hotel quality luxury bed linen and towels are provided for all guests.

The lodge is part of a small collection of traditional privately-owned log cabins which see guests returning year after year. Ruskin Lodge is in an elevated, quiet and bright spot and enjoys views of the surrounding forests and mountains.

The kitchen is well equipped and has an alcove dining area which seats 6. The living room has two giant picture-frame windows with views of the surrounding woodland and has a large TV, DVD player, hifi with iPod dock, small library of books and board games.

Ruskin Lodge is a great base to explore Cowal. It is surrounded by ancient woodland, close to Loch Eck and the Holy Loch and is just a short drive away from Dunoon and all the amities the town has to offer. Bute, the Arrochar Alps, Loch Awe, Loch Etive, Tighnabruaich, Inveraray and Loch Lomond can be reached by car or ferry, offering great day trips and spectacular journeys through some of Scotland’s most romantic, scenic and dramatic landscapes.

Come and stay at Ruskin Lodge, whether you are looking for a relaxing getaway with friends & family, a romantic holiday with your loved one, or a comfortable base to explore Cowal.

You can relax on a large, private, covered veranda and take in the surrounding forests and mountains. We regularly see red squirrels, many types of unusual birds and deer.

We look forward to welcoming you to Ruskin Lodge!

THE AREA

The famous Puck's Glen walking trails begin behind the lodges and Benmore Botanical Gardens are a short walk away along a scenic track.

Tourists 'in-the-know' stay in Cowal. It is a haven for wildlife with red squirrels, otters and rare bird species inhabiting some of Scotland's most unspoilt and dramatic landscapes. Within a small area you can explore sandy beaches, rugged hills, lush ancient forests and impressive mountain ranges.

There is also a wide range of outdoor activities, including golf, fishing, horse-riding, mountain-biking and stalking, and visitors can enjoy many cultural events including the Cowal Highland Games, the largest in the world, in August each year.

There are excellent restaurants, cafes and inns in the area as well as traditional shops, tourist facilities and indoor activities in the nearby town of Dunoon.

About Abigail Daly

I moved to Strone in 2015 having fallen in love with the area on my many stays at Ruskin Lodge. I work with charities and tourism organisations and edit a magazine.

Abigail Daly purchased this cabin in 2013

Why Abigail Daly chose Scotland

Me and my partner bought Ruskin Lodge after discovering the area on a day trip from Glasgow where we were living at the time. Cowal is a beautiful and relatively undiscovered part of Scotland and there are so many different kinds of landscapes - lush ancient forest, dramatic barren mountains, a gorgeous coastline and bubbling rivers.

What makes this cabin unique

The lodge is our idea of a dream holiday escape. It has been completely refurbished and all the gorgeous golden wood has been lovingly restored. It almost shines. I love sitting in the living room and watching the birds and red squirrels in the ancient oak tree. I love hearing the creaks of the logs after a warm day. I love the feeling of the thick, soft carpet between my toes!

Comfy, cosy and surprisingly large!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great stay here in this traditional log cabin and would heartily recommend it to anyone! There is plenty room, definitely more than we thought there would be, especially when you see it from the outside. Abigail was very swift with her responses when we had questions and always more than happy to help. The walks in the surrounding area are absolutely fantastic, one of which is Puck's Glen that is right on the doorstep which is a beautiful gorge walk with a stunning waterfall. We live in Scotland ourselves (up in Morayshire) but this was an excellent little getaway, exactly what we were needing for my wife and I plus our dog loved it too! Thanks Abigail!

Cosy, comfortable lodge in stunning area

Your experience (public)

A cosy lodge in a stunning setting - beautifully clean and had everything we needed and more! The Prosecco and snacks left for our arrival was a great start to our week, there were even some treats for our dog. Lots of relaxation and long walks in the beautiful surrrounding area. The covered verandah was ideal for eating every meal outside which we were able to do even when the rain came! We were glad we had taken a citreonella candle though to keep the midges at bay on warm evenings! We had a fabulous week, enjoyed every minute! Thanks Abigail

Top two attractions in the area are both within easy walking distance of the lodge. Benmore Botanic Gardens is a pleasant 20 minute walk along a track and Pucks Glen is a minute walk from your doorstep. Argyll Forest Park has a network of walking routes. There is a well stocked mini-market and service station 2 minutes drive away. The lodge is in a quiet location, and is not overlooked by other lodges. There are many great options for drinks and meals in the area - local produce is frequently on the menu and views are spectacular!
