Comfortable, well equipped chalet
Well laid out chalet park - lots of space and entertaining red squirrels. Next door to Puck's Glen, 15 minute walk to Benmore Gardens and many more lovely walks in area. The furthest we travelled were Toward and Ardentinny.

We loved this lodge which was very spacious and well equipped. The location was beautiful .
We enjoyed every aspect of this holiday including the surrounding area of Dunoon, Inverary and the isle of Bute. The walk from the lodge to Benmore Gardens was a real bonus as much as the Gardens Abigail was very helpful with providing us with information and a problem with one tap. We would recommend this property to everyone.

Number 6
Property smelt damp on arrival probably due to the wet weather. There were cobwebs in the rooms and on the first night we removed a slug from one of the bedrooms.

Amazing Location and Lodge
Our family of five and our dog had a fantastic week staying in the lodge. We had excellent communication from Abigail before we arrived and her website and app were detailed and full of extremely helpful information about the lodge and the surrounding area. The lodge was very well equipped, very clean and not very close to the neighbours! We walked for miles right from our front door - and the scenery is beautiful. We especially enjoyed Pucks Glen and watching the red squirrels play outside the window. We also enjoyed several other walks in the surrounding area, and the location of the lodge means that several other beautiful places are easily accessible by car. Abigail has worked very hard to make this a beautiful lodge and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We had a couple of questions that we emailed Abigail with during our stay and received prompt and helpful replies. We would recommend this lodge and location to anyone - 5 stars from us! Thank you Abigail.

About the host

Hosted by Abigail Daly

Host profile image
I moved to Strone in 2015 having fallen in love with the area on my many stays at Ruskin Lodge North. I am a graphic designer and editor, working with charities and tourism organisations. We are an ethical self-catering business. The lodges were purpose-built as holiday homes and were only granted planning permission on the grounds that they couldn't be used to live in year-round. This means we're not taking a home away from the local long-term rental or housing market - a big issue for communities in Argyll.

Why they chose this property

Me and my partner bought Ruskin Lodge North in 2013 after discovering the area on a day trip from Glasgow where we were living at the time, and moved here in 2015. Cowal is a beautiful and relatively undiscovered part of Scotland and there are so many different kinds of landscapes - lush ancient forest, dramatic rugged mountains, a gorgeous coastline and bubbling rivers. There is a vibrant creative community and lots of events and activities to enjoy, led by knowledgeable, skilled local residents. We bought Ruskin Lodge South (formerly known as Puck's Lodge) in 2021 and have been welcoming guests since 2022 following its redecoration and refurbishment.

What makes this property unique

The lodge is our idea of a dream holiday escape. It offers comfortable accommodation for friends, families and couples alike. Ruskin Lodge North and South can be booked together so that larger groups can be accommodated.
