This is one cool crib.
The location is north of Montana, north of San Vicente, and on the north side of the street on Adelaide Drive - widely considered to be one of the most desirable streets in the city of Los Angeles/Santa Monica. (some would say THE most desirable. ) A tear-down on this street sold recently for $7.6 million. That's right - a tear-down. Another home sold in the summer of 2011 just shy of $12,000,000.
The street in itself is considered an attraction.
The Santa Monica Stairs are on this street. (If you like a challenging set of stairs to run up and down for your workout - then this location will be your nirvana. There are two sets of stairs in all. Runners do loops.)
You can see the ocean from the front door to the guest quarters or from the guesthouse deck, and a solid view of the Santa Monica Canyon from the bedroom or living room.
A lot of light! Bright and sunny.
Nespresso machine with complimentary cartridges. Complete with espresso cups and saucers.
A library of Blu-Ray and DVD movies.
iTunes based 'jukebox' with 17,000 songs plays thru Spendor S3/5se loudspeakers.

Home was built in 1922-1923. The guest house was added on in the '80's. The guest house occupies the site near the Reyes adobe, the first building in Santa Monica. ( A tavern. )
Guest parking is in the driveway. And there is usually street parking.
Adelaide Drive has been home to Charles Laughton, Jean Simmons, Jeff Bridges, composer Ferde GRofe, writer Christopher Isherwood and artist Dan Bachardy. Nutter Randy Quaid and wife Evi once lived in the main house.
Adelaide Drive it is quickly getting a reputation for being 'writer's row' - the creator of the Simpsons - Matt Groening just moved in, writer of Quiz Show and Donnie Brasco - Paul Attanasio lives in a landmark home. Alvin Sargent, writer of Paper Moon, Ordinary People and many other also calls Adelaide home. Also Dale Launer, writer of Ruthless People, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and My Cousin Vinny lives on this street.
There are architectural landmark homes on this street. And many architectural landmark homes in the neighborhood.
World renowned contemporary architect Frank Gehry (Bilbao, etc.) chose Adelaide Drive to build his own personal dream house. It is under construction now.
In the neighborhood there are number of homes by mid-century architectual icons - Neutra, Saarinen, Lloyd Wright, Harwell Harris...all within walking distance, including a rare home designed by Oscar (Brasilia) Niemeyer. Also iwithin walking distance is the famous Eames Case Study House.

Keywords: It is a 3 room (bedroom, living room, bathroom) guest house with a spacious, 270 square foot deck. Separated from the main house by a breezeway, it has it's own entrance and is located above the garage. I've been told this is referred to as 'a carriage house'.
I live in the main house. This is the best street in Santa Monica, and some say (I'd say) the best street in Los Angeles. Spectacular view.
View of Santa Monica Canyon and the Pacific.
The property is exactly as described. It's an easy walk to several shops/bars/restaurants. The "steps" are a very short walk/run, then the pier is a couple miles away through Palisades Park on top of the bluffs. I recommend taking the lower, beach path back to the apartment. Hopefully, we will be able to stay there again.
We loved the location & it was very comfortable & welcoming place to stay! We plan to stay here again!
When our daughter was getting married in Los Angeles we decided to make a three week trip out of it, coming from the east coast. We stayed in different parts of LA and spent some of our stay in Dale's rental apartment. The apartment is lovely and the bed was very comfortable - we slept like babies. The home is on one of the nicest streets in Santa Monica, and is just steps from the famous Santa Monica stairs. The apartment has a nice patio in the front and a large yard in the back with ocean views. Definitely recommend.
This one bedroom unit is very comfortable and stylish, with 2 huge tvs and a a very nice deck. The kitchen is modern and has everything u need. One wall has very cool Framed photos from movies, and he also provides guests with a great deal of movies to view. Th neighborhood is quiet and full of gorgeous homes. We walked from his place to Montana ave, as well as down to the ocean. There is even a view of the ocean from front steps of the apartment. Finally, owner is very sweet and accommodating.
This is a lovely and spacious 1-BR separate guesthouse with a large deck, and in a great neighborhood in Santa Monica. It has comfortable furnishings, an impressive photo collection, and all the amenities, including wi-fi, TV, a great video library and music streaming. It is upstairs over a separate garage, clean and light-filled. The stairs are a bit steep, if you have a mobility problem, but we found them not an obstacle.
We rented it for a long weekend to celebrate our daughter's grad school graduation, and with the owner's permission had a small 20+ person gathering in the afternoon. It was a great venue, and he was very helpful with getting our guests extra parking passes for the day. Our host was very welcoming; his guestbook is thorough and offers good suggestions of places to visit and where to eat.
The property is a short drive from the Montana Avenue boutiques and restaurants. Also nearby are the Santa Monica bluffs trail, and there are many nearby walking and running paths in the neighborhood. It is an easy drive to westside attractions and UCLA. We would highly recommend to friends, relatives and couples seeking a refined, private atmosphere in a terrific location. And, yes, views of the ocean.
The famous Santa Monica 'Stairs' are 200 yards away. This street has a number of architectual landmark homes nad more landmarks within walking distance. You'll find homes by Neutra, the Eames Case Study House (only house Charles and Ray Eames ever designed), Saarinen, Oscar Niemeyer, Harwell Harris, Rodney Walker and more.
