Photos and Description of this 2 bedroom holiday cottage in O'byrne

Cottage, 2 Bedrooms + Other (See Description), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 4-6)

Bluebird Cottage, a beachside home with incredible views of the Atlantic Ocean. This 1960’s cottage has just been lovingly restored and updated for today’s lifestyle. This lovely 2 bedroom, 1 bath home is a perfect vacation or weekend retreat for anyone desiring a quiet and private getaway. The master bedroom has a queen size bed and TV/DVD and the second bedroom has two twin beds and a TV/VCR. There are two air mattresses with pump for additional guests.

The cottage features an awe inspiring view of the ocean and is less than 30 steps from the beach. Beach chairs and mats, a beach umbrella and CD Boom Box are furnished for your use. There are toys for the kiddos and 2 boogie boards. There is a charcoal and gas grill for your convenience and 3 white rocking chairs for the front porch.

The kitchen is a gourmet cook’s dream. It is fully equipped for someone who loves to cook with nice china and flatware. The cottage provides a formal dining room for those special occasions.

Ormond by the Sea is just north of Daytona Beach, famous for the Daytona International Speedway, Spring Break and annual events for motorcycle and automotive enthusiasts. In addition to all the attractions of Ormond Beach and Daytona Beach, the location is an ideal base for your vacation to Central Florida. From here, you’re 50 miles south of Saint Augustine, 60 miles from either Orlando, Disney, Universal Studios or the Kennedy Space Center and Port Canaveral, and just 80 miles south of Jacksonville.

Ormond Beach developed at the turn of the 20th century as a vacation retreat for the country’s ultra wealthy, including the Vanderbilts, Flaglers, Astors, and John D. Rockefeller, whose home “Casements” now serves as the Ormond Beach Community Enrichment Center. Early automotive pioneers drove their motor cars up and down the hard-packed sand beach, earning it nick name, “The Birthplace of Speed”. Driving is still permitted on parts of Ormond Beach but cars are prohibited at the northern end of the beach.

The City of Ormond Beach is located on either side of the Halifax River, which is part of the Intra-coastal Waterway (a series of federally maintained navigation channels extending from Norfolk, VA to Miami, Fl). There are wonderful walking trails along the river.

About The Owner

I inherited Bluebird Cottage from my father when he passed away several years ago. Before him my grandmother owned the cottage which she purchased in the early 1960's. My husband and I live in Texas but hate the idea of giving up such a family heritage. So we rent the house as often as we can and enjoy it ourselves several times a year. We just love the beach - watching the waves, surfers, pelicans, dolphins, turtles and people. The beach is never the same two days in a row. We have a dog named Calie and she loves to come with us. Therefore we have a pet friendly home.

Why The Owner chose Ormond-by-the-Sea

Ormond Beach has a lot to offer. It has great restaurants, shops and parks. It has a very interesting history which you can explore through the Ormond Beach HIstorical Society. You are only an hour and a half from Disney World, St. Augustine and Cape Canaveral- which makes for fun day trips. Daytona Beach is a short distance away and the Daytona 500 Speedway is always fun to visit. Then there is the beach! The beach in Ormond by the Sea is clean with hard packed sand and the beuatiful blue/green water is always inviting- no matter how hot it is. When your done at the beach you have lots of other things to do- or if your like me a good book will do ya. John D Rockefeller chose Ormond Beach as his last home before he died at the age of 97. His doctors had told him that Ormond Beach was one of the healthiest places in the world to live. As we all know John D Rockefeller, without doubt one of the richest men in the world, could have lived anywhere in the world. There is something about the area that just makes you feel good and Mr. Rockefeller knew it.

What makes this cottage unique

There is nothing like sitting on the porch in the morning in the rocking chair and watching the sunrise. I could sit on the porch all day. Its a great place to pass the day. If you want to take a walk you are less than 30 steps to the beach. We have a Starbucks which is only a few miles down the road. A donut shop is within walking distance. So is some of the greatest pizza parlors and sandwich shops. If you haven't driven The Loop then you need to google it and take the ride. The drive is through some of the most beautiful, pristine countryside you will ever see. Just down the street is a kayak rental. If you like to fish there are several charters leaving from Ponce Inlet where you can see the lighthouse. If your less adventuresome you can try surf fishing right outside the front door. Needless to say you will not be bored! There is a Publix grocery store less than a mile away which is very convenient and the house is less than 5 minutes from a great shopping district.

Wonderful Bluebird Cottage

  • 5 of 5

This cottage is everything it is described to be. We felt instantly at home here and there is a definite peacefulness that surrounds you. You don't need to bring anything but your clothes and food. The owners have excellent communication, and answer every question in a timely manner. The ocean views are amazing with incredible sunrises. The bed is very comfortable as are other household furnishings. Very friendly street with nice neighbors. We would highly recommend!

Four winter vacations

  • 5 of 5

We (my wife, Oreo the shitzu, and I) spent our last five winter vacations (January, February, March) at this cottage, and had a wonderful time each winter. Waking up and having morning coffee while looking out at sunrise over the Atlantic is the way to start a winter morning. Our most frequent activity was cycling, with about 2,000 kilometres every winter. Riding in flat Florida in winter is an easy way to prepare for cycling in hilly Ontario in summer. Unfortunately, advancing age is putting an end to our Florida winter vacations.

Relaxation and Carefree Living

  • 5 of 5

We arrived, threw open the door to this wonderful cottage and were completely thrilled! With three weeks ahead of us, we knew our vacation was going to be the best ever. We have traveled to the Daytona/Ormond area every fall for the past 20 years, renting at two other locations and imposing on family, and this was by far the most relaxing holiday we have ever had. The Bluebird is in a private neighborhood, on a pristine beach, and the neighbors are friendly and welcoming. The cottage offers everything anyone could want, and staying with our two poodles was trouble free. We quickly developed our daily routine which began with a walk on the beach, followed by coffee on the verandah in one of those rocking chairs. After breakfast, it was off to a nearby dog park and then the rest of the day was spent on the beach, til happy hour at 5pm. Meals were prepared in the kitchen which has every amenity and appliance you could want.

We love it. We are already booked for a return trip, and a relative is coming right behind us!!

Perfect, peaceful, beautiful ocean view

  • 5 of 5

After many VRBO vacation experiences this is the perfect one. Everything was as presented and more. My husband, baby shuz tsu and I live on the west coast of Florida and can never find such a wonderful place as Bluebird on this coast. The local contact that the owner has is so very helpful and nice. He could not represent the owners better. Every one should come to Bluebird (just not on the dates we want).

Terrific Bluebird Cottage

  • 5 of 5

My husband, two granddaughters and I arrived to find the most wonderful home to welcome us to Florida. After driving for 12 hours in torrential rains, we were so tired when we got there, but quickly decided it was worth it all to have such a perfect place to stay. It was everything and more that was advertised. Because we had wi-fi, we stayed in touch with the owner and any concerns we had were remedied immediately. Also, the contact people that were in the neighborhood, were very helpful and made sure we were taken care of. The cottage was very private, but we were less than a mile from the grocery store and shopping center. I would recommend this property to all my friends and family. I hope to get the opportunity to stay here again....and again....and again!
