Nestled under the sandstone bluffs that nature carved out of Rocky Hollow, things are quiet, easy going, and perfect for your holiday away from it all. Here lies Big Rock Log Cabin tucked away in the Kentucky mountains yet only minutes away from Natural Bridge State Park, Red River Gorge and the Daniel Boone National Forest. After a day of fishing, hiking, or rock climbing, Big Rock is a wonderful place to come home to. Relax on a large covered porch complete with comfortable lounge chairs and table. Come ready to grill out on the porch at the gas grill and eat out under the trees at a picnic table nestled up in Big Rock Hollow. Big Rock Log Cabin beckons you to slow down, relax, and enjoy the sights and sounds of nature, all in the comfort of a cozy & well furnished log cabin, or lean back in a lounge chair inside Big Rock’s own rock shelter. All linens, blankets and towels are furnished so all you need to bring are food, drink, and personal items. Central air and heat will keep you comfortable any time of the year. Big Rock Cabin has a bath and a half plus a Jacuzzi. Do you like to cook? We just finished the new galley style kitchen that is fully furnished with refrigerator, electric stove, dish washer, microwave, toaster oven, coffee pot, and all the utensils you need for cooking, eating, and drinking. Don’t want to cook? During the season Big Rock is only 5 minutes away from great pizza, subs, or a full buffet dinner. That’s the nice thing about Big Rock, it’s close to everything, but when you top the ridge and drive down into Rocky Hollow you are suddenly away from it all. Natural Bridge State Park is only 5 minute drive where you can enjoy hiking trails, swimming pool, fishing lake, or dinner in the resort lodge. Five minutes more and you are in the Red River Gorge Geological Area and the Daniel Boone National Forest with it’s forest and mountain trails leading to huge natural stone arches and fantastic views of cliff lined valleys. You can even enjoy the trails with your dog in the National Forest. This is a wonderful, undiscovered part of nature where you will see breath taking views without hoards of people. There isn’t a stop light for 20 miles. Come to the Kentucky Mountains and stay at Big Rock Log Cabin. This is a family cabin and not for parties so no spring breakers please.

About John Glover
John Glover: Originally an archaeologist but for many years I have dealt in antiquarian books and historic documents with my bookstore Glover's Bookery. I live in downtown Lexington, KY but am a nut for the great outdoors, thus Big Rock was born [my life saver]. Anne Glover: electrical engineer, started with IBM and continued on with Lexmark.
John Glover purchased this Cabin in 2005
Why John Glover chose Wolfe County
Big Rock is only a hour from Lexington yet located in the most beautiful deep woods natural area in Kentucky surrounded by cliffy wilderness. I bought Big Rock specifically because it is a Log cabin (a must), was unfinished (so I could finish the inside like I wanted), is under the cliff (my golden retrievers don't know what a cliff edge is), the property has interesting features (massive block boulders, a rock house, and gorilla rock), and lastly is close to Natural Bridge and Red River Gorge (Natural Bridge State Park shares a back property line with Big Rock). Fell head over heels for it the moment I saw it.
What makes this Cabin unique
New log cabin yet cozy, rustic, and inviting. All wood everywhere, not a drop of paint or sheetrock to be found. Nestled under a 40 foot sandstone cliff with flanked by block boulders the size of a house. Just steps from a huge rock shelter (the rock house) and Gorilla Rock. The cabin is full of unique Folk Art from all over rural American as well as from my travels.

Fantastic location and property. This is the 4th cabin that we have rented and by far the cleanest and my favorite. Such a quiet and peaceful location. If you want solitude then you will find it here. Want something to read or learn more about the area, then check out the book collection, where you will find something for every nature enthusiast. The owner obviously cares about his cabin and decorated it with things that he loves. The artwork from Kentucky artists was exceptional. Did you forget shampoo or a toothbrush, no worries the owner thought of it. Not too mention that we brought our 2 big dogs, who also loved the cabin. I want to come back and would 100% recommend to anyone.
Your right, I love Big Rock and will always try to make it a memorable destination for others. Thanks for coming and hope to see your again.
Great time at this cabin
One of the best cabins I’ve ever stayed at. My kids had a blast and will definitely be back.
Beautiful cabin in a great location. Very clean with top-notch amenities. Would stay here again.
Super glad you enjoyed Big Rock and hope to have you again. Thanks for being wonderful guests.

A relaxing retreat
We brought our family on a weekend getaway at the end of March. Our family had just experienced an unimaginable tragedy, and we almost canceled our stay because we were all so heartbroken. We made the decision though to go and to simply enjoy family time. We were so pleased with our accommodations. My husband, our teenage children, and I originally planned a weekend of climbing and perhaps a bit of hiking. However, we didn’t even get out our gear because we awoke on Saturday morning to huge, beautiful snowflakes and a surprise snowstorm. It was perfect. We were totally snowbound. Instead of spending the weekend outside, we built a fire, hid plastic Easter eggs (yes, with our teenagers—it was glorious), played board games, and thoroughly enjoyed the simplicity and coziness of the weekend. The cabin and surroundings were perfect for a weekend of relaxation. We couldn’t get enough of the eclectic artwork and found new conversation pieces all weekend. I loved the ease of the kitchen (I’m installing a spice rack like yours in my kitchen!), and we loved the merging of rustic and modern (ex in the bathroom). We brought our young schnauzer with us, and he was so comfortable here as well. He slept well and was relaxed the entire weekend. We were so glad to spend this much-needed getaway with our children. We needed this retreat to to help us to begin healing. The cabin and the snowstorm gave us the chance to take our first steps forward.
I am so happy Big Rock could be a helping hand at a time when you really needed a place to relax. Big Rock is my sanity retreat. It was bought, remodled, and decorated with comfort, relaxation, and eclectic uniqueness all in mind. When I walk through the door I always greet her with "Hello Big Rock, I've missed you,"
It is hit and miss but snow at Big Rock is the best.
Hope you will come again when you can get out and see more of the fabulous sights Natural Bridge and Red River Gorge have to offer.
Take Care John
Loved this place so much!
The cabin was everything we could want! It was beautiful inside and out. It was more than furnished with everything we needed. It rained almost the whole time but the good Lord gave us a break long enough to walk up to Natural Bridge. Wow! It was honestly one of the neatest things I have ever seen! I recommend this cabin to everyone! One of my favorite pieces in the cabin was the huge rug in front of the bathroom that looked like a tree trunk! Thank you John for sharing your beautiful home with us! We definitely want to come back! One more really neat thing was the rockhouse where we sat while it was pouring and had a camp fire!
We have really had the rain this year. So glad you were able to enjoy your visit in spite of the rain. One of the nice things about having the rockhouse close by you can still enjoy a campfire when it's raining. Hope to see you again.
We had a terrific time at Big Rock. It is extremely well equipped. We loved the artwork, the board games, the puzzles and fire pit by the rock ridge. The cabin is very clean with so many thoughtful extras such as guidebooks to area hiking and climbing, books about local and regional flora and fauna and maps to the area.
So glad you enjoyed Big Rock. I appreciate you taking care of the cabin as if it were your own. Please come again.
At Big Rock Log Cabin you are surrounded by deep forest, towering cliffs, and you'll have your own large rock house just outside the backdoor of the cabin. The are boasts some of the most beautiful hiking trail east of the Mississippi, most leading to stone formations or natural stone arches. An undiscovered bit of heaven.
