Sandys is the western most Parish. It's named after Sir Edwin Sandys who made large investments to colonize the parish in early 1600s. The parish name is pronounced as 'Sands'. Sandys has five islands that are joined by bridges. The islands are Ireland Island North, Ireland Island South, Boaz Island, Watford Island and the biggest of all, Somerset Island. The Royal Naval Dockyard where most of the cruise ships anchor, is located at Ireland Island North. Being farthest from the congested Hamilton City, the parish provides refreshing piece and serenity that are quickly disappearing in tourist populated Bermuda.

EASY ACCESS TO BUSES AND FERRIES with Bus Stops just about right in front of the Building from both traffic directions and Ferry Station around the corner.

Overall, our experience was great! The place was really nice. Just be aware the beach across the street is rather small and the place is on a busy/noisy road. That being said, I would suggest the place to most people because it is convent to a bus stop, making it easy to get around the island.

WestEnd is the best End of Bermuda

  • 5 of 5

We had a great stay our studio, celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary. The Apt. is up on the second floor and looks across the street to Mangrove Bay...beautiful way to wake up each day. Bus stops just outside, and Jody helped us get bus/ferry passes for our stay. We used the bus to get to the Royal Naval Dockyards, and hopped the fast ferry to get into Hamilton.

There are 2 restaurants within walking distance of the apt...Country Squire ($$) and Tamarisk

($$$$), both good within their price points. Otherwise you bus to restaurants in the Dockyard or Hamilton or on the bus line. Fun way to get around.

Jody also helped us connect with Mr. Robinson who brought us from the airport and made a stop for groceries on the way in. He will give you a complete history of the island and buildings and people when you travel with him.

Hope to come again.

A Haven and an Escape from the hectic US

  • 5 of 5

Jody and Cathy's apartment fit our needs perfectly. Situated in a quiet neighborhood with easy access to the buses, restaurants, and shops, we were able to truly relax and rejuvenate. The apartment was the perfect size for us and had great amenities. Jody and Cathy went above and beyond to provide with the extras we desired. We had all the appliances we needed and were able to cook all of the food that we brought without difficulty in the full kitchen. The water is "right there" and we were able to take great walks to see sunsets and enjoy the ocean. We cannot wait to go back next year!

5 STARS All The Way!

  • 5 of 5

Look no further! My stay with Exim Guest Studio was more than perfect. The place was Immaculate , CLEAN, and Beautifully Decorated with a Breathtaking View. Gorgeous view from the terrace - look for the turtles in Mangrove Bay! The restaurant right across the street and the liquor store down the block were very convenient. The bus stop is literally a few steps away, making access to the amenities at the Dockyard and other parts of the island also very convenient. Sunset dinner at Breezes near by was only a 10 minute walk. Other nights we spent watching the sunset from our balcony with a couple of local swizzle cocktails. The kitchen came in handy for packing lunches and making dinner - as did the cooler we borrowed. Jody and Cathy went out of their way to answer any questions we had and fulfill any requests. Overall a fantastic experience- great accommodations, beautiful island and some of the friendliest people we have ever met! Highly recommended. LOVE LOVE LOVE Bermuda! Can not wait for our next visit :)

Birthday/Babymoon trip in perfect accommodations!

  • 5 of 5

Let me start by saying this was my first VRBO experience and I was leery of giving it a try. After I read Jody & Cathy's other reviews, I opted to give it a try for this very special vacation. My expectations were far exceeded! They have wonderful lodging with new appliances, updated interior, and best of all convenient location to public transportation. We could not have asked for better property managers or better accommodations.

This trip was both my birthday and babymoon trip and it was remarkable. I wish there was a better adjective to describe how perfect the trip was.

Mr Robinson picked us up at the airport after long airline delays and he was so pleasant giving us the history of the island. He stopped us by the grocery store to pick up some items to cook with. Great option for people like us who typically sleep in and prefer to cook breakfast over traveling to restaurants for breakfast.

We had a unique visit to the Exim property where we stayed in both apartments. Both are gorgeous, updated, with ample space. One has more of an home apartment feel while the other has more of a beach property atmosphere. Both have great views of the Mangrove Bay on the veranda. They are comparable in size. The only differing factor I could make note of is the bed comfort. Both at large beds but the apartment style lodge has a more comfortable bed in my opinion. Don't get me wrong both are comfortable but if I had to judge softness the apartment style lodge is softer.

The location of these apartments is great with the bus stop just downstairs. I highly recommend getting a bus pass. It was an easy system to use and very convenient.

Jody and Cathy are wonderful to work with. They give you great advice on what to do on the island while giving you the privacy needed to make a vacation truly relaxing. Whatever we needed, they were there to assist. This was a great first VRBO experience.

Regarding recommendations be sure to try to crab legs across the street at the pub. They were delicious and a HUGE portion. I would also recommend snorkeling in Church Bay. It's breathtaking. Lastly save a little time to walk around the city of Hamilton. Very nice place with great shopping.

Overall my trip was amazing! Thank you Cathy and Jody for making it a trip I'll never forget.

Beautiful apartment, wonderful hosts

  • 5 of 5

My family just returned from our first trip to Bermuda and we had a wonderful time staying at Cathy and Jody's apartment. Everything in the apartment is brand new: great kitchen and bathroom, comfortable king size bed, a sleeper sofa in the sitting room and a balcony overlooking Mangrove Bay. Nestled in a little village with a bank, pharmacy, restaurant and a few other shops and just far enough from the touristy Dockyard (where the cruise ships dock) to leave you feeling like you live in Bermuda, especially if you get around by taking the bus that is literally right outside the door. What really made our visit special was the attention paid to us by the apartment owners, Cathy and Jody. They arranged our trips to and from the airport, printed our boarding passes, secured some bus passes because we were arriving on a Sunday, showed us a secluded beach and great snorkeling within walking distance of the apartment and were attentive in every way but not intrusive. When we were leaving for the airport on our last day, Cathy handed me a "parting gift" - something from her store that my daughter had admired the day before! They are both truly special people, you will not regret staying in one of their apartments.

Sandys Beaches and Parks

Hog Bay Beach: This secluded beach is a hidden treasure. Not many know about this beach - one of the most exclusive Bermuda beaches.

Daniel's Head Park & Beach: Daniels Head spans across about 17 acres of coastal area. There are several beaches here, but only one has remained as a public beach. Others are privately owned by hotels. It's a great secluded beach and close to the dockyard. There are couple of operators at the public beach who offer excellent kayaks, snorkel and other watersports.

Hog Bay Park: Hog Bay Park is a 32 acres of unspoiled forest land and one of the new national parks of Bermuda.

Somerset Long Bay Beach and Park: It's a beautiful secluded beach in the western Sandys parish. There is also an adjacent park.

Snorkel Park: Located at Sandys parish, this beach is a great place for families and kids. This is also one of the great Bermuda beaches for snorkeling.

Ely's Harbor Bermuda: This is a picturesque harbor. It'll be on your left as you cross the Somerset Bridge which connects Bermuda's main island to Somerset Island. You can get there via Middle Road, west of Somerset Bridge.

Parson's Bay: This is a nice sheltered beach in Sandy's Bermuda and is quite popular with the locals particularly as a picnic spot. However the beach with its beautiful white strip of sand usually remains quiet most of the time. But there is no bus or ferry stop nearby. You will need to take your scooter or cycle to reach Parson's Bay. It is in Ireland Island and on the Lagoon road just before it becomes Craddock Road. The area is known as Lagoon Park.

Lagoon Park: A scenic park area named for the lagoon or the backwater having surrounding mangroves. It's a lovely place to relax and have a picnic. There are picnic tables in the park. With grassy lawns and adjoining coastline along the Great Sound, it has a scenic setting. The park is also a habitat for birds of different kinds. You will also see Easter lilies during Easter time. There is an adjacent valley area having the 19th century Royal Naval Cemetery. It has graves of many Royal Navy officers many of who died out of yellow fever. To reach the park from the dockyard, come south and cross the narrow Grey’s Bridge. Lagoon park is located at Ireland Island (South) in Sandys. The park is open from sunrise to sunset. Admission is free.

Black Bay Beach: There are several small beautiful public beaches that are usually more enjoyable during the low tides. In high tides, they tend to disappear. The beaches here are shallow and great for swimming. Black Bay is located on the northern side of Malabar Road in Ireland Island (South) and opposite to the Royal Naval Cemetery. Bus routes #7 and 8 stop at the Cemetery from where you can walk down to the beach.

Callaghan Bay: This is a nice beautiful beach just off the Somerset Road and at the beginning of West Side road. Bus #7 and #8 both stop here.

Sandys Bermuda Attractions

Royal Naval Dockyard: This is a dockyard and naval base built by the British in early 19th century. The cruise berths Kings Wharf and Heritage wharf are located here. The complex has a number of top tourist attractions.

Bermuda Maritime Museum: A fascinating story of Bermuda's maritime heritage captured in a 19th-century fortress at the Royal Naval Dockyard.

Dolphin Quest Bermuda: A fantastic Dolphin center in the Dockyard. If you have a dream to swim with dolphins, touch or feed them, there is no better place than the Dolphin Quest in Bermuda.

Bermuda Art Center: Located in the dockyard, this is a creative workshop of the talented local and resident artists. It exhibits wide range of artwork including paintings, sculpture, pottery etc.

Dockyard Glassworks: You will see how exquisite glassware items are made right in front of your eyes. There are many great pieces on sale too.

Destination Dockyard: On Mondays, Kings Wharf Dockyard offers nightly festival celebrations with fun filled activities. The event is known as Destination Dockyard.

Somerset Bridge: This is the smallest draw bridge in the world. It was originally built in 1620.

Palm Island: A beautiful tiny island on Ely's Harbor full of Palms and other plantation, and open to visitors during the day time. It's a nature reserve for birds and other wild animals.

Heydon Trust Bermuda - Park and Chapel

Spread across 44 acres of lush greenery, Heydon Trust is one of the largest Bermuda parks with old buildings and the smallest church in the island.

Fort Scaur and Park: Fort Scaur is located on a hilltop at Somerset. The fort was built in the 19th century by the British to defend attacks from Americans.

St. James Church: This is one of the most beautiful churches in Sandys parish Bermuda. It overlooks the ocean with a picturesque setting.

Simmons Ice Cream Factory and Variety Store: If you walk from St. James Church towards the Gilbert Nature reserve.
