Tranquil and Cosy with Views of the Swiss Alps

Bedrooms 1
Space 105 sq ft
Property type barn
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

Want to take in a panorama of the Swiss Alps? This 150 year old barn has been converted to modern standards to meet all comforts.

Public transport is a few steps away and the start of many trips, local and around Switzerland are at your door. There is use of the pergola and fireplace in the garden in summer, if you want to just relax. Centrally situated, but in a quiet village, this converted barn is ideal for a couple or single wanting to base themselves for trips or just enjoy the serenity of Switzerland. I have an oasis of tranquility and cosiness.

I live in a charming 1770 house near the barn and am available for information, suggestions for places to go and see.

I am very central to local transport and the little village is very peacefully situated.

A bus stop is a minute walk away, taking only 5 min to the main railway station.

About The Owner

In the 70's I spent over a year rucksacking from Australia through Asia, India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iran, Turkey and then lived in a cave on a Greek Island for 5 months. A few years later I returned to Australia by island hopping to every Pacific island, from the US to Aus and that again for almost a year. So I love finding new places, meeting new people and that enthusiasm has continued throughout my life. I work in an international secondary school, love the contact with the youth of today and just trying to keep up on all the latest technology that they enjoy.

Why The Owner chose Obfelden

I love living in a part of Swiss history!

Lovely accommodation with special touches & flower garden

  • 5 of 5

Welcoming Swiss themed decor, treats in the fridge, flowers & plants all around us, kitchen well stocked, books & guides to Swiss sights, lovely carvings and furnishings from our world traveler hostess Susan, access to laundry & downstairs toilet. Susan helped transport us to/from the train station and handled baggage, which became important because my spouse had severe knee strain during our trip. She and Dave were both valuable resources about local food shopping, history of the area, the evolution of their historic property, and even the school graduation we attended (driving us there to meet up with our expat family). We bonded instantly with Susan and Dave, friendly and helpful with kitchen stove instructions, train schedules, grocery store discount times (Dave!) , extra items in case of forgotten toiletries, coffee & press, chocolates, cookies, welcome signs and greetings, extra pillows, a drying rack for hand laundry, and an invitation to knock & ask questions if we needed any kind of help while respecting our privacy.

Beautiful and comfortable - would stay again.

We loved this property. Sue & Dave were wonderful hosts. It is an excellent central location if you have a car - there are many day trips and places to explore from this area (Zurich, Lucerne, Bern, etc.) All the amenities were there. Everything was organized and it felt like a fantastic home-away-from-home.

On a very quick pass through Switzerland, this was one of our favorite stops. Sue and Dave were great hosts and our daughter loved her new friends. We had everything we needed and felt very comfortable here during our visit. The nearest grocer was close and we picked up a few dinner items there.

We could not have asked for a better place and cannot wait to return! Thank you!!!

Dave and Sue are wonderful!!!

  • 5 of 5

This place is perfectly located just outside Zurich and about a 30 second walk from the bus that will take you to the train that takes you there- only about 25 minutes total travel time. But enough about the location. The home, itself is perfect! It's perfectly equipped for a long stay. In our 6 days there, we had everything we needed to cook, relax and sleep. The kitchen, dining area and sitting room are on the first floor, as well as the washer and dryer, but they're in a separate room outside your living space so you're not disturbed by the sound. Upstairs is the bedroom and bathroom and a great view of the town and the mountains on a clear day. We absolutely loved this place- and especially loved Dave and Sue - and will most certainly stay there the next time we come to Switzerland.

Beautiful, authentic country living

  • 5 of 5

Sue and Dave were such gracious hosts. Living in a Barn must be experienced. This old barn was remodeled with all the modern necessities of a long term stay. Gorgeous views from the bedroom. Cozy Living room and functional kitchen and separate Laundry room.

Convenient to public transportation and private parking. Major Shopping 6 minutes away by car or Bus, or 5 minutes on foot for convenience store and bakery.

This is a one time opportunity and we will rebook soopn.

It is actually Home away from home!

  • 5 of 5

Me and my husband were here for our honeymoon. We couldnt have chosen anything better! Before talking about the beautiful Barn i would firstly like to mention Sue and Dave were wayyy more than the owners of the property! Starting from giving us directions on how to get to the barn to looking for good deal to see the Alps was just the beginning..

The house is a restored 17th century barn! But renovated awazingly to 21st century needs! And beautifully decorated! The town is quiet and peaceful and we intentionally chose the barn for those reason but the location was ideal for us as there is a bus service only 2 minutes walk away that goes to the Affoltern am Albis railway station with frequent trains to Zurich and Lucerne. A co-op supermarket is only a 10 minute walk away for any grocery needs.

The kitchen and bathroom are extremely well equipped with central and floor heating has all the facilities one could want. As Dave welcomed us to the lovely barn, we noticed the fridge was filled with swiss cheese, juice/milk, beer/Prosecco to name a few and the pantry had cereal, coffee, rice, pasta to name a few staples. Susan was just a bundle of joy when we met her and they both just went above and beyond to say the least!!  I can go on and on with this review as whatever i write will not be enough! And that speaks a lot on these amazing 2 people who made us sooo comfortable and welcome that If I go back again I wouldnt choose anything else but this beautiful barn!

We both actually felt we were at a home away from home and they were like the parents looking after us! Thank you soooo much Sue and Dave  for making our honeymoon even more memorable ❤❤❤😘😘😘
