About Jackie Clark

'Amy's by-the-Sea' has been in view of our family summer home since 1940 when my grandmother Amy Foote and my grandfather Bill, camped on this property in 1917. It was first built by the Forbes family and in 1984 was sold and then sold again in 2004. Finally, in 2011, my brother and sisters and I got together and bought 'Amy's' which has been a large part of our summer lives for over 60 years.

Jackie Clark purchased this cottage in 2011

Why Jackie Clark chose South Wellfleet

My siblings and I have been coming to this location since we were young children. Our father had been coming since he was 8 years old and used to watch the German glider pilots fly gliders off of the dunes of Maguire Landing. We were 'hooked' on the area from an early age just like our father was.

What makes this cottage unique

We all love the peace, relaxation and nature of the area -- it engergizes us! The air is clean, the birds sing every morning, the berries are in bloom in mid-summer and you can hear the ocean at night. The moon and stars are spectacular and some of us have seen the Northern Lights from the ocean dunes.

we loved this little cottage!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed at Amy's Cottage for 3 nights in September. We were new to Wellfleet and wanted a central location from which to explore the area. The cottage really is ideally located, with the beach and bike trail practically in your backyard. We also chose it based on another reviewer's mention that they would walk to the amazing French bakery at the end of the road for morning croissants. We did the same! :) We didn't do any cooking, but the kitchen seemed well-equipped. We used the outdoor shower exclusively, which was heavenly. The cottage itself is small, and though it is two bedrooms we felt it would be cramped for a family or two couples (we used the second bedroom to store our clothing and bags). The owner has been creative with the small space, however, and while there are no closets, there is ample dresser space and a small, exposed hanging rod and hooks in each bedroom. The owner was extremely helpful and communicative during the booking process and throughout our stay. We would love to return!

charming beach cottage...great location.

  • 4 of 5

This little cottage is just south of Wellfleet (quick drive to town pier, restaurants, shops etc.) Its rather close to the road that ends at the Ocean Beach/national seashore, stunning view, lovely beach, but you do have to walk down a fairly steep path through the dunes to get to the beach. Behind the house is a fire road that you can walk up to access the Marconi site (again - stunning view of national seashore, interesting info about Marconi site, which fell into the sea decades ago...) or the Cedar Swamp Trail, which is about a mile long boardwalk trail through the swamp, really interesting and sort of eery. At the other end of the road is the Cape Code Rail trail and just beyond that Route 6. So the location cannot be beat.

The house itself is an old school beach cottage with an addition in back that is a new, modern kitchen and a pretty deck overlooking the wooded yard. The kitchen is modern and well equipped. The bedrooms and living area are pretty small and rustic. The beds are new and comfortable, but there is no room in the bedrooms for anything else, and no closets. There is wifi and a TV that worked well.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your nice review and details. It was a pleasure hosting you. Ah yes, the dunes to the beach -- a hike almost anywhere in the Wellfleet beaches but at least very few people. Please allow us to host you at our larger cottage across the road some day. We give nice discounts to our guests -- off season especially. Here's the link to our larger cottage Thank you again. Jackie

Best location, comfortable cottage

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed at Amy's Cottage for the first time this July. The location couldn't have been better for everything we like to do. We could easily walk (or bike) to a terrific beach on the National Seashore and easily walk to the bike trail (there is a bike rental place right there where we were able to painlessly rent bikes for the week). It was also a short drive to the center of town and all the local ponds. The cottage is not fancy, but is comfortable and private with everything we needed to our stay. I highly recommend the cottage and look forward to coming back!

A Charming Cottage Near the Cape Cod National Sea Shore

  • 5 of 5

This well-appointed cottage afforded us a location just minutes from a spectacular Wellfleet beach, minutes from the bike trail and minutes from one of the best French bakeries this side of Paris. Every morning we would walk to the Boulangerie, buy our croissants, baggettes and trompziennes then walk back to the cottage to enjoy breakfast on the deck. The kitchen is modern and clean, the living room and eating area are cozy and the beds are comfortable. Be sure to take a short drive to the Marconi Station and Atlantic White Cedar Swamp an enchanted nature walk through a planked walk preserve. It's worth the 15 minute journey. Then go up to the Marconi station to see where international WiFi originated thanks to Guglielmo Marconi! Nearby Wellfleet Center offers restaurants, shops and a fish market. If you didn't bring your bicycles, there is a rental shop nearby. Amys by the Seas offered an ideal Cape Cod vacation for the four of us.

Short but sweet visit

  • 5 of 5

We recently stayed here for 4 nights, making last minute plans in August! Just as we expected for a Cape cottage. Great location. Easy to seaside beaches and lakes. House has adequately equipped kitchen. We brought our own games but didn't need them as the weather was perfect and the kids were wiped out at night. Loved the outdoor shower.

I would caution families with toddlers or pre-schoolers as it is on a main road. But our kids are older and it wasn't a concern. The road noise was not a problem. Very close to bike path.

The owner was very easy to communicate with both in advance and during our stay. Very happy with the experience and would recommend this cottage and any others they own.

Cottage is one of two cottages owned by us in the National Seashore less than 1/2 mile from ocean beach. Back trail also to bluff overlooking ocean and Marconi site. Stroll on cedar trail through the rare White Cedar Swamp in the National Park. Bike Rail Trail, So. Wellfleet Gen Store and Boulangerie Bistro and bakery 1/2 mile.
