Description

Photos and Description of this 4 bedroom holiday home in Pringy - La Maison de Promery - ANNECY

Character home with stunning views & sunny gardens in a pretty village nr Annecy

Near beautiful Lake Annecy, this sunny 'maison bourgeoise annecienne' (a traditional 1920s style country house) is a treat all year round. In winter you're spoilt with excellent, typically Savoyard family ski resorts (La Clusaz, Le Grand Bornand) nearby and Chamonix Mont Blanc or chic Megève an hour away. In summer, swim in pure lake waters, hike or cycle: this is an area of outstanding natural beauty, its colours glorious in spring and autumn. Watch horses grazing and sunsets over Annecy, with panoramic alpine vistas, through huge windows in the lounge-dining room. An archway leads to the well-equipped kitchen, where you'll be able to prepare delicious Savoyard specialities with the fresh local ingredients. Up the old oak staircase find stylish family bedrooms; the master with a great arched window for the views! Both have double and single beds, just ask if you need us to add a cot as well. Downstairs, there's a garden-facing double/twin, with WC opposite, ideal for older relatives and you'll find further sleeping options on double sofa beds in the lounge and on the lower ground floor.

The feel is comfortable, spacious and homely, with good beds, crisp linen, attractive rustic and hand painted furniture. Outside a winding pathway leads to a dining terrace and barbecue in a gorgeous three level garden, then up to an enchanting woodland aperitif spot, with babbling brook below. Perfect for lazing in a deckchair or hammock!

In summer, after a day out enjoying some of the multitude of activities this exceptional location has to offer, there is nothing better than to relax in the large secluded, leafy gardens, or to sip an aperitif with a mountain panorama and Annecy twinkling in the background, before dining 'al fresco' on the rear terrace.

La Maison de Proméry has received a four star rating from the Haute-Savoie tourist board and been inspected and recommended as a 'special place to stay' in Annecy by the UK guide Alastair Sawday and by France's well respected 'Clévacances'. Sue, the British owner, will go out of her way to make your stay as enjoyable as possible and to share local knowledge on the best walks, beaches, restaurants, sights and events.

About Sue Penrose

We're a British family with a love of France, who settled over ten years ago in what's undoubtedly its most stunning region. We moved to Germany four years ago for professional reasons, but still pop back when we can, to see our friends in this wonderfully welcoming village, a stone's throw from beautiful Lake Annecy.

Sue Penrose purchased this house in 2002

Why Sue Penrose chose Annecy - Lake Annecy area

We've lived in several areas of France, but the Haute-Savoie has it all - summer, winter, spring and autumn! We fell in love with this 'maison bourgeoise annecienne' and set about renovating it in 2002. We particularly liked the architectural style of these houses built for the wealthy merchants of Annecy in the 1920s and 1930s, who wanted country retreats close to the town centre. The houses were built in locations where the merchants could enjoy the best views of the mountains and have larger gardens than would have been possible in the centre. With views and relaxation in mind, the house was designed with huge windows in the living room and master bedroom, facing southwards to the Alps and a sunny private garden, with plenty of shady spots to doze off in on hot summer afternoons. Restoring this 1930s country home gave us the opportunity to think how to combine authenticity with eco-friendliness. The wooden features are originals, the heating is by an energy saving heat pump and the original well and sloping terrain are part of an underground rainwater recuperation system, used to water the gardens, flush toilets and for the washing machine. We believe you can retain old fashioned charm and be environmentally friendly too! We received great help & support in this renovation project from our neighbours in the village, so named our home 'La Maison de Proméry'.

What makes this house unique

We love the stunning alpine views from this sunny house. It's in a quiet, friendly village just 15 mins (7km) from Annecy's magical lakeside town center & beaches. It's a great place for families and friends to get together and make the most of every season, skiing, swimming, hiking, or cycling by day, then coming home to relax in the cosy lounge or in the garden. Some of our best evenings have been spent watching the sunset over Annecy from the terrace or wooded aperitif spot, then barbecuing in the late evening sun. If you don't want to cook, we can recommend the high quality, but affordable gourmet restaurant Le Clos du Chateau within a 5-minute stroll from the house. The restaurant closes during Christmas-New Year and part of August.

These are our favourite things about the area that has become home:

• Lake Annecy – the purest lake in Europe: crystal clear waters in a picture postcard setting - for swimming; sailing and water sports galore. You can walk, skate or cycle on designated paths around its shores

• Annecy “Vieille Ville”- wander enchanting medieval streets, laced with canals & lined with lovely restaurants, scenic terraces & dreamy cafés, to see why Annecy has become “the Venice of the Alps”

• The Northern Alps – some of the best, most varied skiing in Europe, from traditional village resorts to challenging summits – all within easy reach. Great also for hiking!

• The nearby Bauges, Aravis & Semnoz mountains – protected beauty spots for nature lovers; walks with breathtaking views of Mont Blanc; delightful flora & fauna & farms to visit, with delicious cheeses.

There are sporting and cultural highlights throughout the year, but be sure to book well in advance. We still have availability in 2015 for:

• International Animation Film Festival (15-20 Jun); “Return from the Alpine Pastures” (10 Oct) 'Noel des Alpes' Christmas programme (throughout December).

An Outstanding Property in a Convenient Location.

  • 5 of 5

This is a large, very roomy, nicely restored, slightly pleasantly quirky house on three levels, that serves equally well for couples like us who like the extra space, or larger groups. It is in good condition throughout, very well equipped, with the equivalent of two bathrooms, albeit a bit distributed, and has magnificent mountain views from the main front rooms. It is located in a pleasant small village, about 2 kms from the small town of Pringy that has most of the facilities needed for a holiday, including a couple of good restaurants, and has off-road parking for at least two cars, maybe three at a push! All the main tourist centres,

Lake Annecy, Mont Blanc, Grenoble, etc., are easily reachable for day trips by car. Would we stay here again, definitely!

Owner's Response: I'm so glad that our house worked well for you as the base for the alpine section of your European tour and that you were comfortable there. It was nice to have been able to exchange lots of emails before your stay, so I feel I know you both, even though we didn't actually meet. I hope you will indeed be able to make another trip, despite Australia being so far from Annecy and look forward to welcoming you back.

Great stay at La Maison de Promery

  • 4 of 5

In the first week of May I stayed with my wife, 3 daughters and 2 sons in law at La Maison de Promery at only 7 Km from Annecy. We really enjoyed our stay in this comfortable house. There is a big living, a great master bedroom and a really nice garden were you can BBQ.an last but not least the sunning was shining, the cloud was blue so we could enjoy outdoor. A have told my friends about our stay and recommitted La Maison de Promery.

Très chouette week-end à Promery

  • 5 of 5

  • 5 of 5

Vielen Dank!

Wir kommen sehr gerne wieder!

a really great house & location

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in Feb 2014's half-term. This house and location has sparked what is going to be a long-term affair with Annecy and its surrounds. Semnoz was a great small ski resort which the girls learn to ski on. The house was very comfortable and our hostess was very accommodating. Thanks for the use of your house.

Promery Delight

  • 5 of 5

Quite easy to find. Beware, vehicle driveway very narrow (we had a 4 wheel drive SUV, so I guess this made manoeuvring a bit trickier). Keys in keysafe is cool idea, took us a few minutes to find it. House was warmed up already which was brilliant, thermostat works really well - 25 degrees early mornings and evenings and 23 during the day. Living room lovely and full of light. Well equipped with HD telly, DVD, and small but powerful IPod dock. No HD channels from the Sky Box and many channels not available (a niggle for us). Kitchen well equipped in terms of utensils although virtually nothing there except salt and pepper shakers, coffee, and a handful of teabags. BUT the (wonderful) landlord Sue had done some grocery shopping for us (eventually taken out of damages deposit), and we were treated to a cracking bottle of Seyssel Brut, the local sparkling wine. We had to refill the washing up liquid, and hand wash from both loos as all virtually empty (again a niggle). Downstairs bedroom nice but served as our wardrobe, because we were lazy..... There is a basement accommodation comprising a sort of summer kitchen, single sofa bed, and shower room, which we didn't use but proves handy when visiting here as two small families. Beautiful central wooden staircase, but exert caution as slippery when in socks! One full bathroom for the entire first floor but sufficient for us as we were only a couple. That bathroom is actually really neat and pretty with perfect stand up shower cubicle, and wide separate bath tub. Master front bedroom has comfy king size, and single bed in one corner. Views of mountains from there are stunning. Two large almost walk-in wardrobes for his and hers. Back double bedroom is darker and smaller, with an extra single again in corner. Comfy double as used for afternoon/early evening naps! Separate loo cutely decorated. On first floor landing, a well endowed bookshelf with both English and French books with a good choice of rom-com and classic DVDs. Easy drive of 25 miles from Geneva Airport, Annecy Centre no more than 10 minutes, and both Le Grand Bornand and La Cluzaz ski resorts virtually equidistant no more than 40 minutes away (roads were clear of any snow). Great value when there are more of you, although we were kindly offered a discount as there were only the two of us. Easily sleeps 8. Once again special mention to the marvellous Sue for being so unbelievably helpful and flexible. We will return!!!

Owner's Response: Delighted you enjoyed your stay and thanks for your kind comments and 5 star rating. Looking forward to welcoming you back next year, perhaps with your childrens' families, so you can really make the most of the space, or maybe to discover this lovely area in a different season. Glad to have been of help with the groceries. I can't offer this service as a rule, but it's nice to have been able to do so this time because you were arriving after the shops were shut. For future guests planning what to bring - it's best to assume that no foodstuffs or toiletries will be left over from previous guests, because for hygiene reasons I like everything to be cleared out between rentals. We do provide cleaning products though. It's also helpful for future guests that you mentioned the TV channels available. These are mainly via our French cable TV subscription, with Orange, which provides a wide choice of channels in various languages. As Brits we couldn't be without BBC and ITV, so the Sky box is there just to pick up these free to view channels, hence your not being able to access subscription based British Sky channels as you might have hoped. Thanks again for taking the time to write such a detailed review, which I'm sure others will find very informative.

On the edge of Annecy's historical town, known as 'the Venice of the Alps', La Maison de Proméry's peaceful village location offers the best of both worlds: a picturesque rural hamlet, with great access roads to the old town and lake beaches just 15 mins (7km) away and the A41 motorway (2km), linking you quickly to Geneva International Airport and Exhibition Centre (30 mins) to some of the best ski areas in Europe and all the breath-taking beauty spots of the Haute Savoie region.

THE HAUTE-SAVOIE

The Haute Savoie area of the Rhone Alps region is one of exceptional beauty, delighting holidaymakers in both summer & winter.

The winter snows provide some of the best skiing and winter sports opportunities in Europe. In spring and summer the mountains & lakes offer the widest range of activities from restful beaches in stunning settings to active holidays cycling, mountaineering or taking to the air or water. Visit spectacular gorges (les Gorges du Fier), traditional alpine villages like Megève, or the medieval castles of Annecy, Menthon & Montrottier. Hike in the nearby Semnoz or Arravis mountains or around the majestic Mont Blanc, trip over to Italy or Switzerland, enjoy the local markets, music festivals and traditions, the opportunities are endless!

ANNECY AND THE LAKE AREA

There are countless ways to enjoy this area of outstanding natural beauty: on the 32km of cycle paths along the water's edge; wind surfing, sailing, water skiing, canoeing, or simply taking a dip in the crystal clear waters; paragliding or hang gliding in breathtaking scenery; climbing, hiking or gently rambling in these majestic mountains.

Children will love the beaches, with splash pools, slides, rides, crazy golf & more, or visiting some of the alpine farms which produce the delicious cheeses of the area. Adventure seekers can swing through the trees high above the lake, enjoy horse riding or mountain biking, summer tobogganing or mini karting. Golf enthusiasts will enjoy the excellent courses in the area & anglers can try out their skills along the shores. There really is something for everybody!

From the first snows the Annecy area becomes a perfect base for a varied winter holiday. Save on the hefty accommodation costs in the ski resorts and take advantage of the opportunity to discover different ski areas every day. Go wherever the mood takes you, or follow the best snow & weather conditions! The nearest traditional resorts of La Clusaz & Le Grand Bornand are only 33 km away & the vast ski areas of the Northern Alps, Grand Massif, Chamonix, Les Portes du Mont Blanc can be reached within the hour. It's a great opportunity to try out a variety of winter sports, from downhill or nordic skiing to snow kitting or snow shoeing! For beginners the nearby Semnoz resort (20 mins from Annecy) is the most economical place to learn, enabling you to combine skiing or snowboarding lessons with other activities.

Besides its exceptional opportunities for lake and mountain pursuits, Annecy offers visitors so much more: an enchanting medieval town centre, with arcade streets laced with canals & lined with restaurants and dreamy cafés, bustling markets and boutiques to browse. Lovers of “haute cuisine” will not be disappointed! The idyllic settings around Lake Annecy have attracted some of France’s best chefs.

Throughout the year visitors are treated to Annecy's local traditions & festivals, the ultimate being its Lake Festival (1st Sat in August), an extravaganza of music and fireworks. Book now for 2017! "Les Grandes Médievales d'Andilly" - two unmissable spring weekends of fun for all the family, packed with medieval shows & festivities, is just 15 mins drive from Promery. Other highlights include: Annecy's superb International Animation Film Festival mid June; summer Pyroconcerts in the Talloires Bay and a traditional Savoyard celebration you can still book the house for this year - the 'Return from the Alpine Pastures' on Sat. 8th October. Colourfully decorated animals are brought down through the town centre, where of course you'll find delicious cheeses, wines & other local produce & crafts. Annecy's program for the festive season starts early December, with Christmas markets and concerts which continue to delight until the New Year. For the little ones a trip to Santa's house and workshop in nearby Andilly is a must!

If you enjoy endurance sports, the annual Lake Annecy swim mid August , lakeside Marathon, Triathlon or Red Bull Event (17 Sept- still available) may be just the challenges for you!

Ask Sue about other sporting events to coincide with your stay.

PROMERY

An ideal base from which to explore Annecy and the region, Proméry village is also close to great value shopping centres and traditional local shops, including a farm shop, organic food store and premium butchers. Within a 5 minute stroll you'll find fresh bread and croissants for breakfast and a 'Michelin' recommended gourmet restaurant "Le Clos du Chateau"
