About this property

Romantic Cabin on Riverfront Farm, Pet, Rural

Join the evolution in vacation stays! Looking for the perfect romantic getaway cabin? Look no further - our setting will capture your attention and inspire you.

Cozy up in front of the fireplace, or enjoy the great outdoor fire pit/dining area, or take a nap together in the hammock.

We have many guests at Scurlock Farms from the larger cities and are told they truly enjoy the peace and quiet in our country setting while visiting the area.

Others are thinking of buying property and moving to the country and wanted to "test drive" staying in a rural setting.

The "Most Beautiful Town Square in Texas" with its many shops and dining opportunities is only 10 minutes away.

Some choose to stay on the farm and enjoy the activities here, while others tour the wineries in the area, try out a different restaurant each evening (several farm-to-table), enjoy the live music available almost every night in Georgetown, go into Austin or shop the outlet malls in Round Rock. You get the idea...each one can have a unique experience.

Simply watch the horses, cows and goats as they graze in the pastures, watch and listen to the bird activity from the beautiful outdoor seating area with beautiful Texas Hill Country terrain, or stroll down to the river bottom and hike along the river.

Want to fish or learn how to fish, but don't want to bring all the equipment? No problem! Just let me know and I will give you our local fishing guide, John's, contact information. John will come to the farm and bring the bait and all the equipment, then give you a lesson!

Or, if you are more adventurous, help us feed and hold the baby goats - two more born today, feed apples to Ginger and Duster, our two horses; help gather eggs in the evenings from our free-range chickens; "drive" a tractor; pick something for dinner from the in-season garden; or if your little ones have a green thumb, they can help plant in the spring or fall; have a bonfire down on the wide river banks; or gather your own pecans from the 20 acre orchard in November.

Let me know if you would like a tour in a Polaris. I can show you around the farm, the river, hiking areas, and the animals.

Deep in the heart of Texas in the Texas Hill Country, this was the art studio of well known Texas landscape artist, C. P. Montague, one of President Lyndon B. Johnson's favorites. It was designed around centuries-old live oak trees. It is constructed of river rock picked up at the river on the property. Beautifully and comfortably furnished. New queen bed and quality linens.

Georgetown is only a 10 minute drive away and you can stroll around "The Most Beautiful Town Square in Texas", eat in one of the many fine restaurants (several farm-to-table), or attend one of the many festivals held on the vibrant Georgetown Square throughout the year.
Check out a bike at the Georgetown Visitor Center at 103 W. 7th Street on the Georgetown Square. Explore beautiful downtown Georgetown or the amazing hike and bike trails! Rentals are free!

If you prefer to walk, pick up a brochure from the Visitor's Center on the Square and go on a self-guided walking tour of the historic home and business section of Georgetown and see many beautifully restored Victorian homes and read the stories behind them.

Austin is a 30 minute drive away, so you can enjoy the best of both worlds staying at Scurlock Farms.

Great getaway
This place was perfect for my work on a writing project. Great muffins at check in, a river to wander along, a wood burning stove for heat, everything was what I needed. The host was attentive and responsive. Highly recommend for a rustic, beautiful getaway.

Owners are the family of renowned Texas landscape artist C.P. Montague. The Palette Pad has been lovingly restored to preserve her legacy.

Dan and I both grew up in Rockdale, TX, a small town 45 minutes East of Georgetown. We attended Baylor University, then had careers in the insurance industry. Dan retired 10 years ago, and I retired in 2015. We love having full time to be able to devote to Scurlock Farms!

I am the oldest of 5 and Dan and I have lived on the farm since 1971. None of my siblings had an interest in living here, so after my Dad died in 1986, Dan and I began acquiring the farm from my Mom.

We have raised our family here, and our grandchildren have been raised on the farm. We absolutely love it and feel blessed to have had the opportunity to enjoy this piece of earth. We always look forward and enjoy sharing it with our guests.

A favorite of guests has been the free tours about the farm via a Polaris Ranger, an off-road vehicle. We visit the animals, chickens, river and hiking areas so guests know the lay of the land and they are then free to visit these areas at their leisure.

Why they chose this property

I grew up on a farm in Rockdale TX and could not wait to get away from the farm when I graduated. Dan was raised in town, also in Rockdale.

When my parents offered all their children a home spot on the farm, Dan and I were the only ones that took them up on it. By then, I couldn't wait to get out of the city and back to the country!

After my dad died in 1986, Dan and I acquired all but the 6 acres around The Palette Pad and Rocky Overlook. When my mom died in 2010 she left the two homes and 6 acres to me and Dan, knowing we would not sell them.

Both homes have been lovingly restored and we have totally enjoyed sharing them and their history with our guests.

David, our youngest son, is our chief engineer, and he and Dan enjoy doing farm things together. The past few years have really been interesting.

In April, 2009 a tornado literally blew away our 'new' 72' barn. Dan and David spent the next year building two barns - this time red barns for me, which I had always wanted.

September, 2010 we had a major 500 year flood that wiped out 1/2 mile of fence along the river and washed up mountains of debris against trees in the bottom. We have bulldozed, planted grass and Dan and David replaced 1/2 mile of pipe fence.

Jack is our Great Pyrenees dog - a fuzzy white bear. He will greet you if you walk by - he loves people, children and other dogs.

In 2013 we were fortunate enough to purchase the adjoining 60 acre farm and 3 bedroom home at the end of our drive. It has been totally remodeled and is also a vacation rental home we named Indian Bluff.

That home in on the highest bluff along the San Gabriel River for miles and offers spectacular views up and down the San Gabriel River. The Tonkawa Indians camped and hunted all along the entire farm. Guest have loved finding arrowheads!

What makes this property unique

When my parents searched for the perfect land for their dream home, they had three requirements: water, rocks and live oak trees. This piece of property fit the bill perfectly.

It is really special as the terrain is so varied. The top pastures are prairie, the steep wooded bluff divides the property down the middle, then the bottom pastures are wooded, and the river bottom forms the 1+ mile northern border of the farm with the beautiful San Gabriel River and its wide, white limestone banks. A spring-fed creek also runs across the property before emptying into the San Gabriel River.

Any of the homes provide great bird watching lodging. We have had avid birders from many states and countries and all have seen a "lifer" while visiting the farm. Did you know that 2/3 of all birds found in the state of Texas are found in Williamson County?!

Wildlife abounds and with the different terrains, the farm is a bird watchers and hikers paradise! We recently got a video of a fox crossing near the goat pens at night and just last week saw him twice near David's home, coyotes (Casey and David saw a pair's eyes in his flashlight at our house last week), and a great horned owl.
