If you are looking to go back in history to the days of colonial Mexico, then Patzcuaro is your destination. Add this three bedroom home, that is a mere easy five minute stroll to the main plaza, with no hills to climb, to your vacation package. You can explore the cobble stoned streets of Patzcuaro as well as the surrounding towns that are dedicated to creating beautiful artisan textiles, copper, jewelry, furniture and art, and then return to your home for a relaxing time in the master bedroom's jacuzzi or enjoy a glass of wine on the rooftop patio. This house will be exclusively yours for as long as you wish to stay.
This house in the old colonial center of Patzcuaro is a fully remodeled home that retained the old colonial design of building a house around the patio. Open the front door and walk up a staircase into what will be your home for as long as you stay in Patzcuaro. You will have the option of choosing from several patios where you can drink the first cup of coffee each morning, eat breakfast or have a glass of wine in the late afternoon or evening.
On the first floor is an outdoor patio that is bordered by two bedrooms, two full bathrooms and a large kitchen with French doors opening onto the patio. The kitchen has all new appliances, cookware, a microwave, coffee maker, dishes and a large wooden table handmade in a nearby town. Off the kitchen is the furnished living room, a glass enclosed walkway that faces the patio and the open wooden staircase to the second floor master bedroom. The second floor master bedroom has a sitting area, the sleeping area, a fireplace and a full bath with a jacuzzi.
From the second floor you can take a short staircase up to the rooftop patio and enjoy the sunrises and sunsets as well as taking the time to gaze at the stars and planets against the black night time sky. In the distance you can see Lake Janitzio and the bell towers of Patzcuaro's old churches. You may even glimpse a cat or two jumping from one rooftop to another. You can look at the surrounding mountains and the gently curving colonial streets from your rooftop perch.
The house includes once a week housekeeping service, linens, towels and the fully equipped kitchen. A parking garage is located just yards away across the street for just a few dollars per week. Parking in front of the house is available during the daytime hours.
Very nice for the price. An issue with the one bedroom. A smell like tuna saturated the room. When we contacted the owner they got right on it and sent the cleaning lady with some air freshener and cleaning supplies. Masked it but still there. Needs a good deep clean throughout might fix it. Nice kitchen. Would stay again in hopes the smell is gone.
Patzcuaro is an amazing quite town with very friendly people. My husband, 2 sisters and I stayed here for a week, before and during Dia de Los Muertos, until Nov. 3rd. Everything is exactly as advertised on the VROB website. Check out the photos, the place is beautiful. There are 3 bedrooms, so we all had privacy. There was no problem with parking since there was a parking lot just down the street. We love to cook and the kitchen was a joy to work in. It had everything we needed. The manager is priceless. She spent quite some time with us, giving us answers to all our questions and advise for activities and how to avoid the crowds that came into town on the 31st. She was available anytime. The owner even called once, to make sure we had everything we needed. This property in on a main road which makes it very convenient to walk everywhere. The only caution I would make, would be that since the master bedroom is right above the street, if you're a light and/or early sleeper, this place would not be for you.
We loved this beautiful home! The colors, natural light and abundance of local artwork all make for a unique experience. We loved the central patio. Location is super convenient, close to main squares and right in the middle of the historic city. The owners made themselves available for questions, we felt well taken care of. It got a little loud sometimes at night with street noise, mostly related to day of the dead celebrations. We would absolutely stay again and would recommend this place to our friends.
We were two retired couples who came to Patzcuaro for a couple of weeks to explore the area. The house was in a great location and was easy walking distance to all the town's shops, restaurants, and activities. It had plenty of room and many different areas to sit and visit. The three beds are full/queen and were adequate. Even though we were very careful with the water, we came home early one afternoon from a day's excursion and discovered there was no water. We called the caretaker's number and she said we couldn't get water until the next day. That meant no water for washing dishes, showers or flushing toilets. During our stay the hot water heater went out, and when we again called the caretaker she told us to go up to the rooftop to light the pilot on that water heater. She never called back to see if we were successful or offered any assistance. One night my husband went into the bathroom on the top level and stepped into water on the floor from a leaky seal around the toilet. By this time we were not enamored by the house. There are no screens on the doors or windows which may have been the reason a white cat kept showing up in the upstairs bedroom and why a very large scorpion was crawling on the top of our bed. This rental could definitely use some TLC to make it more
accommodating. It could also benefit from a thorough cleaning.
I spent a full months in this house, and got to know it very well. All in all, it was quite pleasant. Don't take all the cons I list as discouragement, I recommend staying here, but you have to be aware of a few things
The house is very big, very spacious, having all the terraces and courtyards is great. It's very nice watching the sunrise over the lake from the roof.
The hosts are easy to reach, friendly, helpful and genuinely interested in making your stay as good as possible. The local house manager is also very helpful, but can be hard to reach as she is at work during the day.
Location is excellent, right under the basilica, and Plaza Grande is three blocks away.
The kitchen is well-equipped, with good quality knives.
The house felt very secure, and so did the town in general, we had no issues coming home even late in the evening.
There is a lot of art and decoration making the house fun and quirky.
The water situation is... unique. There is no municipal water in the pipes, only for a few hours a week. The house's water is stored in an underground reservoir, which is not very sanitary. Rainwater flows into it freely and there is a bit of mud at the bottom. So don't use the tapwater for even toothbrushing. The pump pushing the water from the reservoir to the roof is a bit broken. Sometimes it doesnt start, sometimes it doesn't stop and floods the roof. It also leaks all the time, so sometimes the hallway has a pool. If you use the large bathtub in the master bedroom, which imho is one of the best features of the house, then you need to call a watertruck every 6 days, if 4 people shower, then every 10 days. A watertruck costs 500 pesos, and we were charged for it. Despite the roof tank, shower pressure is really, really low in two of the three showers, in the third one its perfectly fine.
The beds are just very narrow, much narrower than a queen sized bed. Cuddling is a must.
The house is not really clean. The housekeeper only cleans for three hours a week, and the house is huge, so she only gets to some of the surfaces, rest is dusty, with dustbunnies behind furniture.
There is a disco across the street, it is very, very loud on Friday and Saturday night, until 3-4 AM. Bring earplugs.
There are occasional scorpions. We met three during one month, which is not too bad.
If it rains, the rainwater leaks from the courtyard into the hall a bit.
The internet in the house is quite slow and unreliable
We spent 4 nights in this beautiful home with friends and our small dog.. the location is fantastic, central to everything. we all felt completely safe.. and walked home from the square every evening. When we needed something we contacted the owners and they took care of things right away... would recommend this unit for short or long term anytime... thanks so much...
