About the property

Beautiful Home In Colonial Patzcuaro 5 Minutes From The Main Center

If you are looking to go back in history to the days of colonial Mexico, then Patzcuaro is your destination. Add this three bedroom home, that is a mere easy five minute stroll to the main plaza, with no hills to climb, to your vacation package. You can explore the cobble stoned streets of Patzcuaro as well as the surrounding towns that are dedicated to creating beautiful artisan textiles, copper, jewelry, furniture and art, and then return to your home for a relaxing time in the master bedroom's jacuzzi or enjoy a glass of wine on the rooftop patio. This house will be exclusively yours for as long as you wish to stay.

This house in the old colonial center of Patzcuaro is a fully remodeled home that retained the old colonial design of building a house around the patio. Open the front door and walk up a staircase into what will be your home for as long as you stay in Patzcuaro. You will have the option of choosing from several patios where you can drink the first cup of coffee each morning, eat breakfast or have a glass of wine in the late afternoon or evening.

On the first floor is an outdoor patio that is bordered by two bedrooms, two full bathrooms and a large kitchen with French doors opening onto the patio. The kitchen has all new appliances, cookware, a microwave, coffee maker, dishes and a large wooden table handmade in a nearby town. Off the kitchen is the furnished living room, a glass enclosed walkway that faces the patio and the open wooden staircase to the second floor master bedroom. The second floor master bedroom has a sitting area, the sleeping area, a fireplace and a full bath with a jacuzzi.

From the second floor you can take a short staircase up to the rooftop patio and enjoy the sunrises and sunsets as well as taking the time to gaze at the stars and planets against the black night time sky. In the distance you can see Lake Janitzio and the bell towers of Patzcuaro's old churches. You may even glimpse a cat or two jumping from one rooftop to another. You can look at the surrounding mountains and the gently curving colonial streets from your rooftop perch.

The house includes once a week housekeeping service, linens, towels and the fully equipped kitchen. A parking garage is located just yards away across the street for just a few dollars per week. Parking in front of the house is available during the daytime hours.

Beautiful Home In Colonial Patzcuaro 5 Minutes From The Main Center
average rating of 4.3703704 based on 27 reviews

Comfortable home in the historic center of Purepecha culture.

  • 5 of 5

The house is very comfortable and located perfectly close to the center of Patzcuaro. Patzcuaro is a cultural center of Mexico and is full of attractions. The plazas are a mix of serenity, business and markets. The house is a block from the Basilica, oldest church in town.

Patzcuaro is centrally located to visit many of the precolonial towns that were in the Yacata empire, unconquered by the Aztecs. Lake Patzcuaro is about a mile away, while pretty Lake Zirahuen is a pleasant half hour drive away. Ruins are nearby in Tzintzuntzan and Tingumbato, by Uruapan. Uruapan, with it's magic river park is about 45 minutes.

The house in on a busy street but traffic is not a problem. Parking is available either on the street (free) or a in a secured lot half block away for a very reasonable monthly fee (Ezequiel, the attendant, has excellent English and is a native of Patzcuaro).

The kitchen is large and well equipped, with a full size refrigerator. The bedrooms are large, with a queen in the master and matrimonials in the two guest bedrooms. The bathrooms are located well; one by the kitchen and living room and the others with the bedrooms.

Arturo and Naomi were available for help by telephone (it's in the kitchen) along with Sandra and Alejandra locally. Sandra is the cleaner that comes once a week.

The house is one of the best lodgings we have had in Mexico and is an excellent value. Patzcuaro is a beautiful little city to experience true rural Mexico, with great attractions within easy excursion range.

A week in Patzcuaro

  • 4 of 5

Great location. Six of us stayed and there was plenty of room. Kitchen is updated and table and chairs to accommodate us all. I would stay there again.

Nice Location, Good Value

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed our month in Patzcuaro staying at Arturo and Naomi’s home in the Centro district. While not related to the house per se, Patzcuaro really appealed to our tastes. It is small, scenic, easy to get around, friendly, felt very safe well into the evening, and had a reasonable number of decent, and fairly priced, restaurants. As for the house, with the exception of newer/more comfortable furniture in the living room, and the only bathtub (the Jacuzzi) being out of service, the description and pictures of the house are accurate. Overall, the house is spacious and comfortable.

The house is centrally located, within easy walking distance of everything in central Patzcuaro. Being on a main street, the front of the house is quite “urban” (busy with traffic and pedestrians) during the day but becomes quite quiet by 10 or 11 p.m. It is easy to retreat from the “urbaness” into the interior courtyard or one of the two rooftop patios during the day.

While we are not demanding cooks, the house had well functioning appliances and sufficient supplies and kitchenware to meet our needs. But when you can have a nice, multi-course meal in a restaurant for $10-$15, including drinks, we often found it easier – and tastier – to eat out.

As might be expected in any building found in an older section of any city – renovated or not – there were a few minor hiccups (a drip here, a minor pump issue there) during our time at the house. All issues, however, were addressed very quickly. There is little chance I could get a plumber to my house in Canada in just a couple of hours, as was the situation in Patzcuaro.

Arturo called several times throughout our stay to inquire if all was going well. The housekeeper, who accompanied and stayed with repair people while they were at the house, was very pleasant. It was easy to communicate with Naomi when making arrangements for our stay. Entry and exit arrangements at the house were easy and went well. Secure, off street parking is about 50 metres from the house and cost $350 pesos for the month.

All in all, time in Patzcuaro is well spent and Arturo and Naomi’s is a nice, central location from which to explore the town and area.

Lovely home, nice views, close to Main Squares!

  • 5 of 5

This is a wonderful 3 bedroom 3 bath house near the center of Patzcuaro and close to everything. There was only 2 of us, but the house could fit a lot more! Nice views and vistas from the patio, a very well appointed kitchen (All you need!) and lots of cool Mexican art displayed around the house. The house is super close (walking distance) to Plaza Chico, Plaza Grande, all the main churches, catherdrals, etc....really lovely and a great value! Very clean as well. A very safe city and neighborhood, with many delicious restaurants and great market food.

spacious and pleasant

  • 5 of 5

An open and tranquil series of large rooms and kitchen around a spacious courtyard on a street close to the Basilica church and the main plaza of Patzcuaro. The hosts were helpful and a pleasure to deal with. Definitely recommended.

Yes, it is a beautiful colonial house

  • 4 of 5

The house is beautiful and spacious, well located, walking distance to the Plazas and the Basilica.

The only thing we would suggest to change is the size of the beds. King size beds would be super nice. And another small detail we suggest is to have an iron for the guests.

Besides that we highly recommend this house.
