About Gregg McArthur
My name is Gregg McArthur and I am the President of McArthur Towel and Sports out of Baraboo Wisconsin, The property on English Lake has been in our family since 1972 and after debate we decided to demolish the old family cabin and build our new custom log home. We enjoy sharing the property with responsible indviduals and families that enjoy a backwoods retreat. We personally enjoy Snowmobiling , ATV rides, hunting, fishing and regular trips out to the many northwoods establishments in the area. Great people and great fun. We look forward to hearing from you and don't forget to sign the guest book before you leave. Gregg McArthur and Family.

The place was amazing. Had a great time riding ATVs
An excellent place to relax & feel secluded from "the outside". Only rating our overall rating with 4 stars because it was very warm & took the first entire day to get it comfortable for our second night's stay. Thank-You for sharing your hard work with others!!
Beautiful, serene getaway
Beautiful cabin on a very quiet lake.
Off the beaten path on quite a distance of gravel roads. Many amenities, including the use of a kayak, canoe, and rowboat.
Very private and serene
Just some quick bulletpoints. Overall this was a 5-star stay. A few minor things that could improve, but nothing that warranted less than 5 stars.
First the areas for improvement:
Home next door is being built so there was construction noise each day. It wasn't bad, but it slightly detracted from the feeling of overall privacy.
There is a fishing boat in the raised lift on one side of the dock that takes up a good part of what would be the main swimming area. Would have been ideal if that lift were on other side of dock.
The sink doesn't slope enough toward drain so grime is constantly getting stuck and has to be pushed in manually.
LIke I said - these are minor and in other stays would not have even made a list of potential improvements. This place is nice enough those were the things that stood out.
On to the positives.
Extremely isolated on this lake. There are maybe 15-20 cabins on English Lake, all on one side. Of those, we never had more than 4 boats on the water and many times it was just us on the lake.
The views across the lake are incredible.
Nice open yard to play games. It slopes a little more than it looks like in photos, but still enough room to play yard games
Pontoon rental from neighbor was easy and priced very nicely.
Cabin amenities were all middle to higher end, which is uncommon in many VRBO's. Nice glasses, silverware, coasters, bedding.
Hot water was hot.
Great views from windows.
It's private, but still only 15 mins to Clam Lake or Mellen.
Fishing was OK. August fishing does die down, so probably more time of year than the lake. We had a bite from a Muskie and caught a nice Northern and Largemouth. One morning we caught 43 bluegill off the dock just for fun - all safely returned to the lake and will be there for the next guest.
Overall this is the first place we enjoyed enough we will likely return. No surprises with anything. The AC worked, the TV's worked, the kitchen appliances are newer and worked.
A great place to stay.
Peaceful and accomodating
We rented Gregg's place for 7 adults and had a great time! The house was well stocked and very comfortable. When we pulled up the view took our breath away. The lake was very clean and not busy at all. The privacy was perfect for our weekend getaway. We would definitely return!
Quiet getaway for the family
This property was extremely clean and well cared for. The kitchen was nicely equipped and the grill was nice. The lake out the back door was peaceful and just what our family was looking for. We enjoyed coffee on the back deck in the morning and fires by the water at night. It is very remote, about an hour's drive to Bayfield, but we didn't mind that. The cabin comfortably slept our family of 8. It was a great place to stay!
The property is located in the middle of the National forest which makes for a true wilderness setting. Area attractions include the North country trail , Copper Falls State Park, Morgan Falls, Clam lake Elk viewing, Hayward, Hurley, Bayfield, Ashland and the lake Namekagon area.
