Overview

About the property

2 bedrooms 1 king size bed, 1 queen bed, 2 bathrooms stunning mountain view

Make the most of the precious time you have to spend in Yosemite. My vacation home is within 25-35 minutes of Yosemite Valley, Glacier Point, Mariposa Grove (is closed for a restoration project until Spring 2017.) and Wawona is closer: some of the most popular 'must see' places. Save yourself from a long commute and slow moving lines getting in and out of the park. Imagine the convenience of being able head down to the Valley for sight-seeing or over to Wawona for a round of golf or up Glacier Point Road for a spectacular panoramic view of the valley and half dome. There are hiking trails and wild life found through out the Park. You are sure to make memories that will last a life time.

Both families and couples have enjoined their stay here. Your biggest problem will be deciding how to spend the limited time you have here. There are so many things to do in Yosemite.

This comfortable little chalet was completed in 2011. It has 2 bedrooms (1king, 1queen) and 2 bathrooms (1 on each floor). With a fully equipped kitchen including microwave, lots of cookware, dishwasher, and a stainless steel propane range surround with granite counters making meals are easy. There's a charcoal grill for outdoor cooking.

Perched high on the hillside with a driveway that is steep and narrow. you do best with a car that has high clearance. However once you are parked there's a ramp you go up and ONLY 2 steps to enter OR there is a ramp going around the house to the front deck. This makes it convenient for unloading the car.

Both bedrooms have a 32' TV and a sliding glass door with access to the upper deck. The living room has a 47' TV a propane fireplace.and sliding glass door leading to the lower deck. You will have fantastic views of the pine forests and the Merced River Canyon from both inside and on the deck.

Being about 2000' higher then the Valley it is not as hot up here and the ceiling fans help to cool you off .

PLEASE NOTE: Due to the steepness of the driveway, during the winter season from November 1st through April 30th, you may not be able to use the driveway due to snow. When this happens arrangements will be made for you to be able to park close by.

Why Mary Ann Murphy chose California

I discovered Yosemite West back in the 1980s when I spent a week here going cross country skiing out of Badger Pass. There is no place closer one can stay.

What makes this chalet unique

The views from here are breath taking. I find myself taking pictures of the sunset because they are beyond description.

I've been surprised with how much wild life I can see from the decks. I often hear the chipmunks before I see them. The deer enjoy snacking on the hillside and the coyotes if not seen can be heard. Neighbors have shown me pictures of bear(s) in our neighborhood but I have yet to see one in this part of the park.

There are lots of windows to fill the place with sunshine.and all offer majestic views.

Family of 5 from Philadelphia

  • 5 of 5

We spent three night at this wonderful property. The home is newer, nicely furnished and very comfortable for our family. The kitchen is very well stocked with high end appliances and cooking utensils. Very conveniently located with only a 20 minute drive into the valley. Best of all are the beautiful sunsets. We would stay at this property again and highly recommend it to anyone traveling to Yosmite.

Fantastic Yosemite getaway!

  • 4 of 5

My family just stayed at this well-appointed cabin for a fantastic long weekend of hiking in the beautiful Yosemite National Park. The cabin is a short 20-25 minute drive to the main attractions within the park. It is easy to get to the trail heads and the Village for amenities, yet it is nicely tucked away out of the crowds for a relaxing evening after a full days' activities. The house is one of the most well-appointed of any I have rented. The kitchen is very well equipped for any cooking you may want to do. It even has a nice variety of spices and sugar and honey for your tea and coffee. It has many games to keep the whole family entertained, and we took advantage of playing many of them! The beds are incredibly comfortable and it comes with plenty of products for your convenience like dish-washing liquid, detergent, Kleenex, paper towels, toilet paper, etc. We had a wonderful time!

Great house

  • 4 of 5

This house was very nice with a beautiful view. It was well stocked for all your needs. Only complaint, needs A/C. It was 100 degrees outside and 85+ inside. The fans did very little to cool you off. This was also not indicated in the description.

Easy access to the Valley, but far enough away to avoid crowds and heat. The house is well kept, clean, and comfortable.

Amazing Mountain cabin! Beautiful views and owner has provided everything you could want.

  • 5 of 5

The Chalet is extremely comfortable and Mary provided everything we could possibly need. We had a wonderful steak dinner overlooking Yosemite at sunset for our anniversary! It will be a lasting memory for many years. Yosemite park itself was incredibly beautiful, the water falls were awesome, the mountains, rivers and trees are truly majestic, and it was one of the best vacations we've ever had! The Chalet itself has a beautiful kitchen area, with all the new appliances and utensils you need. There are two incredible balconies overlooking the majestic Yosemite, and the night skies are awesome. Mary herself helped us with information about Yosemite and was great to work with. She helped to create an incredible memory that will be cherished for many years.

Thank you again, it was awesome!

Car: necessary

My vacation home is located inside Yosemite park eliminating the need to wait in line for re-entry. It is among the closest accommodations to the major attractions such as Yosemite Valley, Glacier Point, Wawona Golf Course, the Mariposa Grove (which is closed for Restoration till July 2017) and various trail heads. I allow 30 minutes to get down to the Valley a little longer to get to the Golf Course, When I go to the Mariposa Grove I'll park my car at the Wawona store and take the shuttle bus.

I would advise anyone staying in Yosemite West and preparing their own meals, to do their grocery shopping before they enter the park. There are grocery stores in the Valley and at the Wawona store but most of the prices are higher.

Then there are restaurants, from the dining room at the Ahwahnee to the pizza deck in Curry Village

IF at all possible I would recommend one stays at least a week because there is so much to do. In the Valley I would recommend parking your car in the Day Use Parking then taking the free shuttle bus around.

A popular place is the Ahwahnee, a 4 diamond hotel which was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1987. Dinning used to require a jacket for men but has eased up on that tradition and now collard shirts for men and woman may wear dress or slacks and blouse. Historic Ahwahnee Tours are also available.

The visitor center is a must stop. The staff is always helpful with how to plan your stay in Yosemite. They can also tell you about the ranger's program and Interpretive walks

There's a bookstore and museum near by.

There's the Ansel Adams Gallery which offers photography workshops and a camera walk (class size & availability are limited).

You are in Bear country which means food may only be inside your car (out of sight, widows completely closed) during daylight hours. Remember to clear your car of food wrappers, crumbs in baby seats, and baby wipes. Even canned food and drinks must be removed from your car.
