Photos and Description of this 2 bedroom holiday chalet in Yosemite National Park - Mountainside Chalet Yosemite

2 bedrooms 1 king size bed, 1 queen bed, 2 bathrooms stunning mountain view

Make the most of the precious time you have to spend in Yosemite. My vacation home is within 25-35 minutes of Yosemite Valley, Glacier Point, Mariposa Grove (is closed for a restoration project until Spring 2017.) and Wawona is closer: some of the most popular 'must see' places. Save yourself from a long commute and slow moving lines getting in and out of the park. Imagine the convenience of being able head down to the Valley for sight-seeing or over to Wawona for a round of golf or up Glacier Point Road for a spectacular panoramic view of the valley and half dome. There are hiking trails and wild life found through out the Park. You are sure to make memories that will last a life time.

Both families and couples have enjoined their stay here. Your biggest problem will be deciding how to spend the limited time you have here. There are so many things to do in Yosemite.

This comfortable little chalet was completed in 2011. It has 2 bedrooms (1king, 1queen) and 2 bathrooms (1 on each floor). With a fully equipped kitchen including microwave, lots of cookware, dishwasher, and a stainless steel propane range surround with granite counters making meals are easy. There's a charcoal grill for outdoor cooking.

Perched high on the hillside with a driveway that is steep and narrow. you do best with a car that has high clearance. However once you are parked there's a ramp you go up and ONLY 2 steps to enter OR there is a ramp going around the house to the front deck. This makes it convenient for unloading the car.

Both bedrooms have a 32' TV and a sliding glass door with access to the upper deck. The living room has a 47' TV a propane fireplace.and sliding glass door leading to the lower deck. You will have fantastic views of the pine forests and the Merced River Canyon from both inside and on the deck.

Being about 2000' higher then the Valley it is not as hot up here and the ceiling fans help to cool you off .

PLEASE NOTE: Due to the steepness of the driveway, during the winter season from November 1st through April 30th, you may not be able to use the driveway due to snow. When this happens arrangements will be made for you to be able to park close by.

Why Mary Ann Murphy chose Yosemite

I discovered Yosemite West back in the 1980s when I spent a week here going cross country skiing out of Badger Pass. There is no place closer one can stay.

What makes this chalet unique

The views from here are breath taking. I find myself taking pictures of the sunset because they are beyond description.

I've been surprised with how much wild life I can see from the decks. I often hear the chipmunks before I see them. The deer enjoy snacking on the hillside and the coyotes if not seen can be heard. Neighbors have shown me pictures of bear(s) in our neighborhood but I have yet to see one in this part of the park.

There are lots of windows to fill the place with sunshine.and all offer majestic views.

Perfect spot!

  • 4 of 5

Very well equipped home. Perfect location. Spent one week here and it was nice to come "home" to a comfortable bed after a long day of hiking. Very quiet with a beautiful view. Would definitely stay here again due to location. Owner very prompt with any questions.

Gute Lage um den Yosemite NP zu entdecken!

  • 4 of 5

Quiet Cabin with Great Location

  • 5 of 5

Location - We broke our Yosemite vacation into three main parts: 1. Yosemite Valley 2. Glacier Point Road 3. Tioga Road. The location of the Mountainside Chalet was perfect for getting to each of these locations, especially Yosemite Valley and Glacier Point Road. Tioga Road is a little bit further of a drive but staying anywhere else will make your drives to #1 and #2 even longer.

Home - A very well maintained home that really is on the mountainside. The host gives you warnings about the driveway for good reason as it is incredibly steep! She gave great tips for maneuvering up and down. There are TWO awesome decks that are high enough to see just above the tree-line which makes for some beautiful sunsets. The home was a perfect size for our family that traveled (4 adults + 1 infant) and each bedroom was comfortable with good size. Everything was also very clean and neat. The only things to remember are if you are traveling in the summer, there is no AC so it can get hot upstairs in the afternoon. Just stay out in the park long enough and it won't matter! Internet is good for checking emails and such but the data runs out quickly. Again, no big deal as we were in the park all day anyway.

We would definitely stay again!

Nice and cozy for four, with Sunset view and within the park.

  • 4 of 5

The property location and views were as described in the listing. The kitchen and rooms were clean and cozy for the family of four. The Kitchen is well equipped with the essentials. The living room is bit small but situated right near the lower deck to enjoy the view. The bedrooms are decent size. We enjoyed our stay, however there are couple of things that were not to our expectation. The stairs light were not working and was our concern when travelling with young once. And Curtains were missing from one of the Bedroom, the plus side was to sleep with the stars the down side is to wake up with the Sun. The location is well within the Park and allows us to cover both the side of the park without much driving.

Mary was prompt in responding to the queries and we appreciate her efforts in making our stay care free. Thanks for having us.

Owner's Response: You came the week after my handyman moved out of the area and I had not found another one. A new shade has been put up in the bedroom and the lights in the stairs are now working. I am glad you found the place nice and cozy

Car: necessary

My vacation home is located inside Yosemite park eliminating the need to wait in line for re-entry. It is among the closest accommodations to the major attractions such as Yosemite Valley, Glacier Point, Wawona Golf Course, the Mariposa Grove (which is closed for Restoration till July 2017) and various trail heads. I allow 30 minutes to get down to the Valley a little longer to get to the Golf Course, When I go to the Mariposa Grove I'll park my car at the Wawona store and take the shuttle bus.

I would advise anyone staying in Yosemite West and preparing their own meals, to do their grocery shopping before they enter the park. There are grocery stores in the Valley and at the Wawona store but most of the prices are higher.

Then there are restaurants, from the dining room at the Ahwahnee to the pizza deck in Curry Village

IF at all possible I would recommend one stays at least a week because there is so much to do. In the Valley I would recommend parking your car in the Day Use Parking then taking the free shuttle bus around.

A popular place is the Ahwahnee, a 4 diamond hotel which was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1987. Dinning used to require a jacket for men but has eased up on that tradition and now collard shirts for men and woman may wear dress or slacks and blouse. Historic Ahwahnee Tours are also available.

The visitor center is a must stop. The staff is always helpful with how to plan your stay in Yosemite. They can also tell you about the ranger's program and Interpretive walks

There's a bookstore and museum near by.

There's the Ansel Adams Gallery which offers photography workshops and a camera walk (class size & availability are limited).

You are in Bear country which means food may only be inside your car (out of sight, widows completely closed) during daylight hours. Remember to clear your car of food wrappers, crumbs in baby seats, and baby wipes. Even canned food and drinks must be removed from your car.
