About Michelle Bolhuis

Recreational triathlete that has completed 12 iM and is attempting to complete her first Anvil (double Ironman). Like to think my properties represent my healthy lifestyle...vegetable gardens, relaxing environment where you can get a good nights sleep & good access to places where one can swim, bike and run:-))

Michelle Bolhuis purchased this house in 2010

Why Michelle Bolhuis chose Clermont

Most lakefront properties in the area have a road separating the beach from the house. This lake house is situated right on the water!

Some people don't want to be RIGHT on the water if that's you check out our brand new adjacent property that is directly across the street.

What makes this house unique

Being situated on a major chain of

lakes is both very revitalizing and tranquil at the same time.

Guestbook comments from the manager

Hi Jeff & Michelle,

I just wanted to say thank you and let you know that we had a great week in the house! I had really missed the lakefront sunsets since we moved and I think we all enjoyed every one of them from the sunroom or deck during the week.

I attached some of the photos from the week for you to see. My 17 year old niece was a little tall for the bunk beds, so we separated them to make her a bed and "sofa". We used the picture hooks you had up and a few damage-free command hooks to hang some lights and decorations. It was really cute.

The Big Green Egg was fantastic once we did some research and figured out the correct vent openings to get it going. I noticed there was some regular charcoal and lighter fluid there that I'm guessing were left by previous guests. My one recommendation would probably be to print out some guidelines so that someone doesn't unknowingly use the wrong thing and have petrochemicals leach into the ceramic. Once we knew how to light it and vent to maintain the correct temp we were all in love with the thing!

Best of luck in your upcoming races and especially the double ironman, which is almost inconceivable!

We did our best to leave the house like we found it and minimize the amount of work needed to get get it ready for your incoming guests. I hope the turnaround was stress free. I will take some time in the next couple days to leave a nice review on Airbnb.

Thanks again for everything!

A total relaxing, upscale experience with nightly

  • 5 of 5

The Lake House is situated directly on the lake, with incredible views. My husband enjoyed his early morning quiet time on the lake on the jet ski watching the sunrise. Evenings were spent sitting in the Adirondack chairs on the dock watching the sunset after a busy day out. The house is fully and beautifully furnished with all upscale linens, cookware, Keurig, Espresso machine, Green Egg for grilling, and very comfortable beds. One of our favorite things to do was to jump on the jet ski and cruise down the Crooked River over to The Tiki Bar for an amazing burger. The owners of the house appreciate the out of doors and have created a peaceful setting with ample outdoor eating areas on the decks. A quiet, screened in area upstairs is ideal for reading a good book or just watching nature. This property is unique because it is close to Disney and all attractions, yet you can experience the Florida lifestyle. We have rented via Homeaway on several vacations and this property is one of the cleanest and most well appointed ones we've rented along with owners who really strive to make your vacation experience the best. There's many restaurants nearby if you prefer to dine out. Our favorite was Calabria Restorante, with the Italian owner in the kitchen. So, if you want a vacation that is out of the ordinary, this is your place to be. Rent a paddle board, the jet ski, a canoe, or just relax after a fun day at Disney... it's all here. We hated to leave. But, I have my camera full of sunsets, rainbows, birds, butterflies, and family activities to remind me of The Lake House stay.

Beautiful Home!

  • 5 of 5

The pictures don't give this property justice =) So gorgeous just walking in the home with all the windows and the beautiful view of the lake from all areas of the house... especially at sunset! Breathtaking! Beautiful home! Jet ski was a lot of fun took the owner's advice and went across the lakes to have lunch at a little tiki bar. We had a blast! Thank you so much for allowing us to stay here!

Owner's Response: Thank you for leaving our home so nice. I never would have guessed 8 people stayed here! We have had 6 parties stay with us for the month of July and 3 of them were turn arounds (10am departure and 4pm check in). It is very difficult to get cleaning staff on Sundays and holidays especially the week of July 4th and I always try my best to accommodate everyone's vacation plans. We also like to check the place out personally before little problems like the screen in the lanai become problematic. The lanai is on the second floor with a beautiful view of the lake but it is susceptible to wind gusts off the lake. We also feel homes are better maintained than properties used exclusively for vacation rentals. Again thank you so much for leaving our home the way you found it during our busy season. 5 stars to you too!

Awesome vacation!!

  • 5 of 5

We planned a last minute vacation for 4th of July this year and initially wanted a direct oceanfront home. After an extensive search, we found that all direct oceanfronts who allowed dogs were booked for the holiday. We came across Michelle's place in Clermont and decided a Lakehouse could be just as fun - so we booked it right away. What a BLAST! Travelling with a couple kids ranging from 14-20 and our two pups, this was a great spot. RENT THE JETSKI! This was the highlight of our stay. My husband also brought 2 paddle boards, a canoe, a tube, a tie-up hammock, and his ATV & dirtbike (we couldn't find a place to ride, but didn't look very hard as the water toys were such a hit)

Many things we loved about the stay/home: private, no real neighbors. We utilized the dyson, roomba, and washer and drier daily which was helpful. the kitchen was well stocked. They have a Kureg with a selection of coffees :D The giant conference table was great for everyone to eat at and the kids played Monopoly there the one night my husband and I went our to dinner (kids didnt even want to leave the house!) My husband enjoyed BBQing on the Green Egg. Bring binoculars if you want to see a gator up close - we saw 2 - both times at dusk and they were far out from the house - still used the jetski, just steered clear. While laying on the hammock, a giant box turtle crawled right under me! My nephew caught several small fish in the lake around dinnertime. On July 4th we were lucky to see several firework shows in the distance all around the lake. Our dogs had a fun time as well; we kept them leashed while outside (property is not fenced and there is a road in front) Tubing and riding the jetski seemed to be the favorite! I loved having coffee early in the morning on the dock, before the kids got up!

Good to know for future renters: the bunk bed was too small for the teen boys. (one is 5'10") We picked up 2 twin air mattresses and sheet sets and they happily camped on those in front of the downstairs TV & their PlayStation

We usually do one family movie night while on vacation, but there is no TV in the living room. We were disappointed with that at first, but by the end of the stay, didnt even miss it. There are tvs in the sunroom, master bedroom, and upstairs loft/bedroom.

I would definitely recommend this rental! RENT THE JETSKI especially if you have a few older kids.

Michelle and her husband Jeff were very nice. Thank you for a FUN & RELAXING vacation!!

Owner's Response: We loved having you! What an awesome family! We have an air bed that we can set up for the boys next time or the sofa bed but the air bed is really comfortable! The new 4 bedroom house across the street will be ready soon and that can comfortably sleep 8+2! Just let us know who is coming so we can set up properly for the six of you. The new house across the street will have a fenced yard for the puppies too. Hope to see you back soon!

Not as advertised. IMHO

  • 1 of 5

House was dated. Beach was very weedy/grassy. The adjacent lot is owned by multiple families and was quite the party spot on the weekend. Was informed upon check -in a large alligator was spotted in the evenings near the beach (not what you want to hear staying with three small children). Owner was very nice at check-in (waiting in the home at time of check in and lingered for about 45 min). When it came to check out numerous reasons given to take deposit. "A cigarette butt was found in a trash can and made the whole home wreak" a smear of pizza sauce was found on a bed spread, therefor costing us an additional 200$. I would not stay again. Good luck on your vacation home hunt.

Owner's Response: Here"s what actually transpired .... IMHO said: "Hello Michelle, We had a blast thank you so much your house is amazing. I was wondering if after you check out the house if I could get that check my dad gave you for the security deposit. Saves me from paying him and then getting paid. Either way not the biggest deal thank you for everything have a great fourth. Best regards Robert" The home owner responded: "Unfortunately someone was either smoking in the house and/or putting 5-6 cigarette butts in the upstairs garbage. Either way there was extra cleaning involved because the house smelled of cigarette smoke. . I am just waiting to see if I have any complaints from my next two check ins to see how this plays out. The house might require a deeper cleaning. As per the house rules smoking is not allowed on the property. Sorry to have to bring this matter to your attention, Michelle" IMHO said "Nobody smoked in the house! I didn't read anywhere that cigarette butts couldn't be thrown away in the house. My brother would smoke wading in the lake and bring his butts in per my request. I would assume you would rather have someone put cigarette butts in the trash then in the lake? That's rather frustrating. We treated your home with respect. I would like this resolved sooner then later." The home owner responded: "How did the cigarette butts get in the upstairs garbage can in the bathroom then?" IMHO said: "He walked upstairs and took them out of his pocket and threw them in the trash can. We had a lot of family over and I'm sure at times bathrooms were occupied downstairs. I would never let someone smoke around my kids indoors. I will repeat again nobody smoked in your home. Please just figure out what you are doing so I can take care of what I need to before I leave today. Thank you" the home owner responded: "Ok will do. Also one of your guests ate pizza on the bed in the master bedroom and stained the bedspread. There was tomato sauce smeared all over the night table too." IMHO said: "Still waiting what is the hold up?"

Clermont Chain of Lakes, Florida: Sun Setting Over Lake Palatlakaha

Clermont Chain of Lakes Photo Gallery

Add a Lake Photo!

Water paradise awaits in East Central Florida: the Clermont Chain of Lakes offers over 9000 acres of water surface with additional miles of canals and rivers. Eleven of the 13 lakes in the chain are connected with channels and with stretches of the Palatlakaha River that remain navigable to small boats. The other two lakes are connected to each other, but separated from through-boat traffic by a water control structure on the Palatlakaha River. Located a few miles southwest of Orlando, the Clermont Chain of Lakes is one of central Florida's hottest housing markets in the area and a popular destination for water sports lovers year round.

The larger lakes are popular for waterskiing and are densely populated with water lovers. The largest of the lakes are Lake Minneola (1,888 acres), Lake Minnehaha (2,298 acres), Lake Louisa (3,634 acres) and Cherry Lake (401 acres). All four are on the main portion of the chain along the river and easily accessed by water. Lake Winona (64 acres), Lake Palatlakaha (102 acres), Lake Hiawatha (49 acres), Wilson Lake (32 acres), Lake Susan (81 acres), Lake Crescent (122 acres) and Cook Lake (21 acres) are all peripherally-connected lakes either by river or manmade canal. Located near the town of Groveland, Lake Lucy (346 acres) and Lake Emma (173 acres) are often considered as part of the chain due to their location on the Palatlakaha River. The highest elevation among the lakes is a normal 97 feet at Lake Susan.

Palatlakaha Run, the longest water trail in the Lake County Blueways system, offers over 26 miles of paddling enjoyment along the chain. The deepest spots in the entire chain are about 26 feet with the majority considerably shallower. The unpopulated areas of the shorelines are wetlands harboring a wide variety of native wildlife. Attractive moss-draped cypress trees line the canals and shelter many of the shorelines-the perfect backdrop for a scenic kayak trip. The Clermont Chain of Lakes is one of the most pristine in central Florida, but water color varies according to water source. Some lakes are primarily spring-fed and clear, while others gain their water from nearby Green Swamp and offer water tinted by tannin. The brown color does not indicate poor water quality however, and these darker lakes are often preferred for swimming as the lack of light penetration keeps the water temperatures cooler than in clearer lakes.

Two marinas are located on the lakes, one at Lake Minnehaha and the other at Lake Susan. The marina at Lake Minnehaha offers some boat rentals and rental slips for local boaters, and Lake Susan sells boat gas. Several public boat ramps are located on the chain; some allow launching for a small fee, and many commercial facilities offer boat launching from their docks. The main boating lane north from Lake Louisa has directional signage for the convenience of boaters. A swimming beach is offered on the south side of Lake Louisa at Lake Louisa State Park. The lakes are well-known for being excellent fishing lakes, with smallmouth bass, redear sunfish, largemouth bass, crappie, bluegill and channel catfish most often caught. Most of the lakes have fallen trees and dredge holes acting as fish attractants; these are marked by buoys. Several fishing piers offer shore fishing and access to the disabled. A Florida fishing license is required.

The City of Clermont is widely known as the 'wakeboarding capital of the world,' with a year-round camp dedicated solely to teaching the skill of wakeboarding. Clermont has a boat ramp and public beach at Waterfront Park on Lake Minneola and offers rentals of bicycles and kayaks to access both the chain of lakes and the many trails in the area. The South Lake Trail, popular with walkers and rollerblade fans, is a 'Rails to Trails" path that connects to the West Orange Trail. Half- and full-day paddling tours can be arranged here from the rental facility. The Great Clermont Triathlon is held here each year, taking advantage of the water and trails in the area. The towns of Clermont, Montverde, Minneola and Groveland offer several forms of lodgings to suit the visiting Lakelubber. Chain hotels join small resorts, campgrounds and RV parks to house visitors, while a few weekly private rentals can also be found. Real estate is mostly upscale, with new gated communities being developed every year. Many small unusual shops and artisan galleries offer the best of eclectic shopping, while cafes and restaurants cater to every taste.

Lake Louisa State Park holds about 60 full-service campsites and two primitive camping areas suitable for tent campers. Several equestrian camping sites offer convenient access for horse owners who enjoy the horseback trails in the area.
