Photos and Description of this 1 bedroom holiday cottage in Utuado - Jungalow

Enchanting Cottage for two, Rain Forest Mountains

Our hacienda guest cottage, originally made for friends, is in a rather unique location - in the area known as La Buena for its friendliness, gentleness and calm. The town of Utuado is the oldest in the coffee growing region. Breathtakingly beautiful, we're between two lakes on the river that connects Dos Bocas and Caonilloas.

Surrounded by mountain and river views , nestled in gardens of tropical flowers our charming little guest cottage comes with quiet nights of stars and the music of the rain forest and river.

Sleeping two, it has a Beauty Rest "Recharge" Queen size bed with comfortable linens, open space kitchen and a bathroom with wood walls, tile and a marble shower. It has a well-stocked pantry and all toiletries and bathroom amenities. The refrigerator, microwave and gas bbq are on the front porch.

Have your morning coffee while watching the herons, Puerto Rican cuckoo and hawks fish in our river.

You can plan a day of hiking nearby, zip lining, caving, canyon river tubing, horseback riding or just relaxing with a book in the hammock.

There are many local, and inexpensive restaurants to try, both nearby, on the lakes, and in town for every imaginable type of food.

Upon reservation information is sent on activities, sights, adventures and shopping, driving.

About Owner / Property Manager

I've lived at Hacienda D'el lago on my hacienda for 20 years and have raised many champion Paso Fino horses, the preferred ride of Puerto Rico and South America.

This is a very special and unique spot in the rain forest mountains with the Caonillas river, alive with fish, as a border on the south side.

I grew up in central New Jersey and have lived in New York. I've been to several universities and The Culinary Institute of America.

I bought the house and property sight unseen only going with my instinct and the feeling of overwhelming beauty of nature here.

For the past 20 years I have built the jungalow for my friends and it has become a well-loved vacation getaway for my new friends and acquaintances.

I also am devoted to helping the stray animals, the street dogs and cats here that need care and comfort, and we are a family of three equines, six dogs and three cats. I'm very proud of the work I do with the animals here. It's been the most enlightening aspect of my life, hands down.

I enjoy meeting interesting people, reading and riding. I enjoy sharing this property and my knowledge of Puerto Rico with fellow adventurers.

Why Owner / Property Manager chose Utuado

Love sharing this amazing place and the best part is the expression of delight and surprise on arriving guests' faces! The pictures do not do it justice. The river borders the entire south side of the property, almost half a mile in length. An incredible amount of bird species are drawn to it. I bought the house sight unseen because of the property, and it's magic. I love that the water is from a private mountain spring, delicious and so clean.

I'm sad when you leave too!

And I'm very glad that you share my love and honor for other beings and nature.

What makes this cottage unique

Surrounded by the rain forest mountains, and the bamboo along the river, there is no better place to sleep and relax. You can walk through the jungle behind the cottage and visit the cave, go down to the water and get in - it's waist deep in places, no more - and really breath the beautiful air here!

There are amazing adventures to be had in the area and they are run by truly wonderful folks.

I think this is paradise, and perfect for a couple's getaway.

Get-away in the Jungle

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time at Marlene's Jungle bungalow. We found it amazingly peaceful, beautiful grounds, and

beautiful roads to discover. Marlene suggested numerous activities--the horseback riding was our favorite.

She was a friendly, warm and thoughtful host. Thanks, Marlene, for all your hlep and time. The clean towels, the organic coffee, the wine, the cositos, etc.A great place for anyone needing a time away from the rush and chaos of life

It's a lovely place surrounded by wonderful nature that includes a waterfall and all the amazing jungle sounds! This is the place surrounded by mountains, far from crowds and noisy tourists. Unforgettable experience driving in that area and million dollars views all over the place!

"Glamping" in a beautiful and amazing place!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed at the Jungalow last month. We had been staying in Rincon, and I thought it would be fun to end our vacation In the mountains. We had never been to the Central region, and I highly recommend it! It's lush, and cooler than the coast. You drive between mountains and see glorious views. It smells wonderful. And if you stay with a great host like Marlene, all the better! Our cell phones didn't work because we didn't have AT&T, but Marlene called Toro Verde Adventure Park for us on her phone so we could go zip lining. She was so helpful and fun to talk to, and she introduced us to the dogs she rescued, and told us their stories.

The Jungalow itself is a very small cabin - only one room. When we first arrived we were a bit dubious, having spent the previous week in a rambling, three-bedroom house, but we very quickly and easily settled in and were very happy! The queen bed has THE most comfortable mattress I have ever slept on, and we left the windows and door open at night. The windows have screens and there is a screen door, but we were not bothered by bugs. We were looking forward to meeting the cat everyone talks a about in these reviews, but Marlene adopted a new cat and the two of them are still learning to appreciate each other, so neither of them were around much. We did make a few lizard friends :)

The shower's water runs lukewarm, but it feels really good on a hot day. All of the water comes from mountain runoff, and is delicious. Marlene sends you a huge list of things to do in the area, and then you come back to the Jungalow and cook dinner on the grill (there is no stove) and listen to the music of the coquis and watch the stars. There is a coffeemaker in the small kitchen area, and all the requisite dishes and utensils. Fridge and microwave are outside.

I titled this review "Glamping," and I mean that in the best way possible! Try it - you'll love it!

A breath of fresh air

  • 4 of 5

You have to drive through some windy, mountain roads to get here, but it's worth it. Located on a beautiful piece of property, you have plenty of privacy. Very peaceful and we were able to completely unwind from all of the usual daily stresses. Not a huge amount of local eating places, but enough if you are able to drive. Shower pressure is weak at warmer temps, but that was our experience at other mountain locations as well. Owner was very helpful.

Away in Nature

  • 4 of 5

If you are looking for a quiet and restful place surrounded by nature, this is the place .The property is about a 30-45 minute drive thru the mountains from Utuado. The property itself is minimal as to creature comforts however what is there is adequate. The owner lives a few hundred feet away from the property. She is very hospitable. She has a number of animals that added to the pleasure of the place. When traveling away from the property, the Puerto Rican people were very friendly and helpful. This area is off the beaten path from where many tourists would go. Tom and Hannah Dzik
