Overview

About the property

House, 1 Bedroom, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 4 with convertible couch)

As evidenced by the over 50 unanimous (5 star) reviews, this is not your typical cottage.

Located on 200 feet of lakefront with breathtaking views of both the sunrise and sunset from your private deck, this lovely one bedroom house is perfect for a romantic getaway for two, or for a small family seeking a lakeside vacation.

45 minutes from Rochester, Buffalo and Niagara Falls and right off the New York State Parkway, the location couldn't be more convenient. With cable TV, WiFi, public water, air conditioning and ample heat plus countless amenities, you'll be on vacation the moment you arrive.

Just as lovely in the spring and fall as it is in the summer, this location is the perfect spot for parents visiting students in Brockport, Rochester, Niagara or Buffalo. Lake Ontario turns a vibrant dark blue in the spring and fall and a walk among the changing foliage in Lakeside Park is simply spectacular. On chillier nights, our fire pit provides a cozy place for you to comfortably linger well past sunset. A large stack of fire wood and plenty of kindling are available for your use. Long summer evenings will amaze you with skies loaded with stars and sparkling fireflies, the likes of which can only be seen in the country.

The unit is all on one floor, and includes a queen-size bed, a brand new couch that converts into a second full sized bed, a full kitchen and living room, as well as a full bathroom with shower. The entire house has been completely remodeled, and is absolutely gorgeous inside.

The property borders on Lakeside Park, where you can enjoy miles of hiking along the breathtaking bluffs on the southern shore of Lake Ontario. A new 18 hole disc golf course is also available for your enjoyment.

In the area you will find several golf courses, fresh produce, a drive-in movie theater and wonderful restaurants. The house is nestled in a lakeside hamlet less than 15 minutes from the Erie Canal. Kayaking and canoeing opportunities along local creeks and waterways abound. You will find each nearby town loaded with unique shops, local landmarks and fascinating history. When you return back to the lake, you'll find the perfect location to relax and read that book you have been looking forward to. Most importantly, you'll have a chance to reconnect with nature and each other.

Lake Ontario is at record levels this year, (the highest in 125 years!) but we're nice and dry at our location. We've moved our deck up to the top of the bluff, and we had a landscaper build a berm around it , adding beautiful plants. You'll have the most gorgeous view of the sunrise and sunset from this location, surrounded by endless blue water. You'll feel like you're in your own private paradise!

Here are some events to help you plan your trip:

The Rochester Lilac Festival-(largest free festival of its kind in North America) May 12-21- ten incredible days and nights filled with flowers, food and music, and centered around one of the most beautiful parks in the area.

Finger Lakes- Keuka Lake Wine Trail in Bloom in May- including many Keuka Lake wineries, Wagner Vineyards Live Music in the Oasis- every Friday through October, in June Seneca Lake has their 'Smokin Summer Kickoff', and the Seneca Harbor Park Waterfront Festival, In July Watkins Glen Speedway has races running all summer, and hosts the Finger Lakes Beer Festival October 20th and 21st.

Niagara Falls hosts Comic Con from June 2nd to June 4th- with 150K square feet of exhibitors, comic books, movie cars, and a video gaming arena, and their annual Rib Fest runs from June 16th-18th.

The Albion, NY Strawberry Festival is scheduled for June 9th and 10th.

The Hilton, NY Apple Festival is September 30th and October 1st.

Live Horse Racing is available in Batavia, NY (about a half hour from the house)

You'll find this location perfectly centered between Rochester and Buffalo/Niagara Falls, (in the east/west direction) and the Finger Lakes and Toronto (going north and south).

New in 2016: An adult-sized 'sandbox'! For those of you looking to wiggle your toes in the sand, we've built an 8 X 16 foot sandbox, complete with reclining lounge chairs, off the first landing of the deck. Mother Nature gave us a rocky beach, but we developed a work-around for our sand loving friends.

Payment is typically done via personal check, with 50% of your rent due at the time of the reservation, and the balance due prior to check-in.

About Maureen Farnand

My husband and I grew up in the Rochester area. We both came from large families and we love to travel and entertain. We enjoy this unique location on the lake so much, when the opportunity arose, we bought the house next door! We're happy to provide you with tips on good restaurants and fun things to do in the area, as well as directions on how to get wherever you want to go. We love this place and we want to make sure you do too!

Maureen Farnand purchased this house in 2010

Why Maureen Farnand chose Lake Ontario

This location is ideal in so many ways: It is 45 minutes from our primary home. It is quiet and private. It has gorgeous views of the lake. Lakeside Park is a hidden treasure and it is in our back yard. We can leave on a Friday after work and enjoy dinner on the deck an hour later. Few people know about this location. The property tends to stay in families for generations and has remained a hidden treasure we were lucky enough to learn about through my uncle who introduced our family to this beautiful spot in 1959.

What makes this house unique

There are few places I know of, where you can walk outside in your pajamas, cup of coffee and newspaper in hand and as you head to the deck you look out on the vastness of the lake and see six beautiful swans gliding by. You have to wonder... how could I beat this?

The property was a quaint little cabin just right for the weekend or longer get away.

  • 5 of 5

Nestled in the tall trees high about Lake Ontario, the property was perfect for the weekend getaway. All the amenities of home on a quiet gravel roadway with almost no vehicle traffic, and only a mile or so from the equally quaint Creekside Grocery. The owners are right next door and ready to make your stay a complete pleasure. When we have the opportunity to return to the area, this will be our accommodation of choice.

Wonderful and Cozy

  • 5 of 5

We brought our dog out for his first family trip along with our two children. Beautiful views all around and swings for our little ones to play on, which they enjoyed the most. The place was very cozy and accommodating. We enjoyed the state park/disc golf course and our dog Plato got to burn off some of his energy out there. We plan on returning and had a peaceful, restful Memorial Day Weekend.

Great place to stay for a relaxing getaway

  • 5 of 5

Maureen was so helpful from the time I booked until the time we left. Honestly, if you're looking for a quaint, relaxing and romantic getaway, GO HERE! The cottage is perfect for two people and has everything you need. The deck and the views of the lake from it is stunning. We'd spend every night staring out at the wide open sky just filled with stars. Cute little fishing towns nearby and some good wine tasting within thirty minutes from the cottage. Lake Ontario is now one of our favorite Great Lakes after this trip!

Swing away stress!

  • 5 of 5

This beautiful cottage had everything we needed to relax if only for a couple of days. The view and the chance to sit on the deck over looking the lake was serene. We took advantage of the bonfire pit and the night sky filled with sparkling stars and gazed at both all night long. The swings made us smile and we felt like the world we left behind was nothing but a dream as we watched the gorgeous sunsets. The beautifully updated cottage was very comfortable and Maureen was so helpful even before our arrival just to assure us of all of the amenities. We are already planning our return! Thank you Maureen!
