Located on a quiet road with open fields and mountain views, this recently renovated cottage is clean, beautifully built, warm and comfortable. All new kitchen with new appliances and zinc countertop, new bath with hand-tiled tub and shower. All wood walls and floors, fine craftsmanship with rustic touches.
Downstairs bedroom with queen bed and upstairs bunkroom with queen and two singles will sleep two couples, or small family comfortably. Also perfect for one or two people who want privacy and peace. We do not cater to large groups.
Gas furnace heats the house well, plus electric heat in the bathroom makes showers warm and comfy. A wood stove in the living room with large glass viewing door is perfect for evening relaxation with a glass of wine in cool weather.
House is situated on 100 private acres you can roam at will on foot, cross country skis or snowshoes. Trails lead to your own beautiful waterfall behind the house, to a high bank above Minerva stream with private access for canoe or kayak, or through the woods nearby where we allow the New York State to maintain a trail to ponds with a public lean-to if you want to experience Adirondack camping.
Once you arrive, you will be 2 miles from the small hamlet of Olmstedville with its gas station and general store and a delightful local restaurant (Li'l Nonny's) with wonderful home style breakfast and lunch until Columbus Day: 8 miles from North Creek with stores, restaurants and bars (we recommend Bar Vino for delicious food and a good wine list), and a slow train to Saratoga Springs. Rafting trips down the Hudson can be arranged in summer months, there's the exciting White Water Derby the first weekend in May each year, and nearby Gore Mountain has great skiing during the winter season with biking and gondola trips in warm weather. You are an hour and a half from the Governor's mansion in Albany; two hours from a lovely French restaurant in Montreal; or four hours from NYC for nearly everything else in the world.
At home in your cozy cottage you may see a deer across the street or an eagle cruising the sky, or hear coyotes or owls howling after dark in late Summer and through Autumn. The night sky shows you the brilliance and beauty of the Milky Way and if you are lucky, the Northern Lights will shine. You are in the middle of a beautiful natural area, yet right on a paved road. We do the snow-shoveling in winter and mow the lawn in the summer.
Natural Stone Bridge and Caves is 10 miles east in Pottersville - great for both kids and adults - you can swim there and see some natural Adirondack caves without special clothing or equipment.
The High Peaks and lots of comfortable climbs are within striking distance in all directions - Crane Mountain in nearby Johnsburg, with great views for a relatively short climb, is our favorite. You can also climb Snider, located behind our caretaker's home, which is walking distance from the house. Just call Duane for instructions at 518 251 2627 - 45 minutes to the top and a nice view.
Contact friends or take care of business with free internet and telephone. Or just kick back and read a good book. Care-taker is down the road a piece if you have a question or need assistance. We opened for business in late 2013 and every guest so far has been pleased - check our five-star reviews. We look forward to your happy stay with us.
We are a family of builders and designers, who have enjoyed paying attention to details while upgrading properties in NYS and Florida over the past 40 years. We have a mountain home nearby that we use mostly in Summer but from time to time in all seasons. Our youngest daughter was married on the riverbank above Minerva Stream a few years back, and the reception was at our house. Our ancestors came to the area in the mid-1800s and many family members, now scattered across the country, still return for visits or family reunions each year.
George Halloran purchased this cottage in 2001
It is beautiful and comfortable inside, no matter what the weather may be. Outside, you know you are in the Adirondacks where explorers and travelers have enjoyed the beauty and solitude for hundreds of years. Yet you are on a paved road a short drive from anything that catches your fancy. We bought this 100-acre parcel because it adjoined our land, and because the former owners were family friends for generations. We have visited the waterfall and paddled the stream for 65 years (some of us) and our children and grandchildren are on the same track.
Your own waterfall in the back yard. Private access to Minerva Stream for canoeing and kayaking. Delightful all wood interior finishes with an accent on the Adirondacks. If you are here during harvest time and we have a garden going, you are welcome to pick fresh organic corn or beans, or dig a few potatoes for your dinner.
My two friends and I found the lovely cottage exceeded our expectations. We loved the overall coziness of the place and discovered new enchanting details very day. The house was very clean and well maintained . there was no need to ask the owner for any kind of help. My German friends were especially impressed by the various lovingly made pieces of natural wood. I have already recommended this property to my son and his family for next fall. the fall colours were spectacular and we spent our time exploring, taking photos and inhaling the fresh air.
We had a great time in the Adirondacks because this cottage was perfect for us. Really well equipped for a summer stay. A great location for exploring the area by car and on foot.
Exactly as promised, very clean, well equipped, and beautiful. We had a great week there. Location also nice, quiet dead-end street, hiking out the door and a five minute drive to a swimming lake. Highly recommended.
Very nicely updated cabin. My girls loved the attic bedroom and the waterfall right behind the house. We would definitely stay here again!
My fiance and I spent a summer week in this cabin as a celebration of our 10 year anniversary. It's a lovely little place, so comfortable and inviting. We especially appreciated that everything was immaculately clean, but beyond that, there were many positives. The kitchen is spacious and well-equipt. The bedrooms are plenty spacious and the beds are comfortable. No air conditioning, but we were able to keep the indoor temperature quite comfortable by opening the windows at night and shutting them during the day. No television, which gave us the chance to catch up on reading a few books. The whole cabin is charming and tastefully decorated - the vibe is very relaxing and the screened porch is especially peaceful. We ate most of our meals out there. There is a cute little fire pit out back which we enjoyed, although the mosquitos were a bit of a deterrent on certain nights. (then again, the firefly performances are phenomenal) We enjoyed several local restaurants during our stay - I would particularly recommend Li'l Nonny's (awesome reuben!) and BarVino (fantastic food! and live music). We visited the waterfall, hiked up to the pond, explored the natural caves nearby and took day trips to Ausable Chasm and Fort Ticonderoga. We truly appreciated this little slice of heaven and look forward staying here again in the future. Thanks!!
