About Kel Darnell

Here is a picture of the owners, Kim and Eddie, doing one of the things they love best, hanging out on the slickrock. Kim is the Executive Director of the Moab Trails Alliance and spends her time writing grants to fund more non-motorized trails in the Moab area. Check out the bike/pedestrian bridge across the Colorado River and the paved path system that links downtown Moab to Arches and Canyonlands National Parks as well as many popular BLM sites. Eddie is an Orthopedic Surgeon from Salt Lake City where he specialized in shoulders for 25 years. Now he practices full time at the new Moab Regional Hospital (2010). He and Kim met on a blind date and the rest is history.

If you have suggestions to make this condo even better for your next stay, let us know. We want you to be happy and enjoy Moab!

We hope you love our condo as much as we do,

Kimberly Schappert and Eddie Weeks

Kel Darnell purchased this condo in 2007

Why Kel Darnell chose Utah

While living in Moab since 1987 I have watched and helped this community change immensely. Besides Moab Trails Alliance, my other business is a walk-in camppark for tents only, Up the Creek Campground. There is no other campground like it in town. 132 E Center is a unique property that was remodeled from a derelict building two blocks from Main Street. It houses 2 hotel style suites with outdoor patio seating on the the front side of the building and two deluxe and distinctly different condo properties in the back, complete with a fantastic private oasis garden. This is where I would want to stay if I didn't already live here! P.S. Eddie agrees completely!

What makes this condo unique

We are locals but we did stay in this lovely condo after we bought it to see if it was as perfect as we thought. Yes! There is no need for a car once you arrive. Everything in town is within walking or biking distance. The backyard, right out the back door, is private and perfect for after activity cocktail hour and grilling. The beds are super comfortable and the kitchen has everything you need to whip up a feast. Hate to cook? No problem. Walk downtown and find your favorite restaurant. There are plenty to choose from, anything from sushi at Sabaku (Yes it is good!) to other fine dining at the Desert Bistro. The galleries are loaded with wonderful local artist's work, some of them internationally known, like Tom Till's photography or Serena Supplee's canyon scenes. The music festivals, classical or folk, are first class as well as any theatre event put on by the very talented local pool of actors. Be sure to read the Moab Happenings for the month you will be visiting

Guestbook comments from the manager

Of the many 1-2 bedroom vacation rentals we've had over the years, this condo is by far the most thoughtfully designed, thoroughly equippped, stylish, and spacious. It's also immaculate. The location within the town and the Moab area generally is unbeatable. Kel Darnell, the property manager, was generous in answering my many q.s and giving detailed advice as I was planning our Utah hiking holiday. Five stars all around!

Wonderful space, perfect location

  • 5 of 5

Kel's condo was beautiful, light, and well appointed. The location couldn't be better for a stay in downtown Moab - everything was within walking distance, but the condo is off the main road, and is very quiet. Kel was great to work with before our trip, and provided helpful information on what to see and do in the Moab area.

We LOVED our stay!!

  • 5 of 5

I can't say enough about how happy we were with our stay at the condo, and the city & area of Moab.

The condo is at the perfect location, just a block of main street, so we walked EVERYWHERE we wanted to go. Main street is very busy, but we did not have any problems with noise or traffic on Center St.

Our 1 bedroom unit was much larger than we expected, and it felt like home. All the fixtures, appliances, decor, etc was very nice. a very clean place too!

Roomy bathroom with 2 sinks, large shower, plenty of towels, handy washer & drier, great smelling shampoo!!

Bedroom was also very roomy with 3 closets & we slept very well on the comfortable bed.

Kitchen had all we needed & lots of counter space. They even furnished us a cooler to take on the road for our hikes.

We were in Moab to hike & sight see, so we left early in the morning & did not return until that evening, where we cleaned up, walked to a restaurant, came back & went to bed!! We were so tired each evening, we didn't even watch TV.

This is a great place to stay, and they have other units if you need more than one bedroom.

Steps away from the Moab action

  • 5 of 5

This spiffy and comfortable apartment is barely away from all the stores and restaurants so you can enjoy walking to everything and then leave the busyness behind and enjoy quiet. The apartment is spacious, comfortable and well supplied. Moab has many good restaurants, a large grocery and interesting shops. Between Arches, Canyonland, Dead Horse and the Colorado River there was so much to do we were glad we booked a week long stay. Hope to return.

We couldn't have been more delighted!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I were so pleased with this condo. We appreciated the close walking proximity to restaurants and grocery stores and adventure companies while still feeling comfortably secluded from the crowds on the main drag. The condo seemed new or updated well, very large, and was quite a treat to relax in after daily hikes. We had everything we needed to make our stay easy and so much fun. We are already planning our next trip back and hope to stay here again.

Center Street Condo - the place to stay in Moab!

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely loved staying at the Center Street Condo as the condo itself was very nicely appointed (and clean AND comfortable), centrally located and within walking distance of restaurants, shops, and the all important information center, and overall: a wonderful home away from home. The condo has a common area backyard and it has a lovely seating area – wonderful to watch the sun come up or watch the night sky roll out. As we like to do a lot of cooking away from home, we fully appreciated the kitchen stocked with utensils, pans, plates, knives, and all the things you’d need at home. The bed was comfortable, linens were very nice – as were the towels in the bathroom. The night before we left, the city was up and celebrating Pioneer Day (July 24). Just around the corner from us, a band played until dusk when the fireworks were set off over the city. We’re from Texas where people go berserk with both (and until the wee hours) and found the Moab experience much, much nicer! Another thing to point out is that Kel and Marc left a set of written directions for hikes, things to see, places to eat, and we found those to be very helpful.

A few things to be aware of that by no means detract from the place but good to be aware of. The condo uses a swamp cooler that works best if you have the room-to-be-cooled with a window cracked no more than 3 inches. I guess I grew up in the part of Texas that requires year round air conditioning and that you never open your windows at night so this took some adjusting to for both of us. (There is a small bedside fan in the bedroom to help with air flow.) I should also state that we were visiting at the end of July when it’s just hot. The nights are very pleasant and coolish but by no means does the house/condo seem to cool on its own with the windows open. One of the beautiful bonuses in this part of the world is the night sky and Moab doesn’t disappoint with the view! In the condo’s common-area backyard, there is a giant light next door that affects about 1/3 of the view. Again, this doesn’t detract as you can adjust your view OR just walk 50 paces up the street to get the full night sky but don’t expect to see the full shebang from the backyard. Would I stay here again? Yes indeed! You should too!
