The Owner purchased this villa in 2011
sea breezes, crashing waves, whale-bird-frog screeches. all this and super comfort, super quality. we felt that our every wish was anticipated. we look forward to returning to this enchanting place.
My family have been coming to the Big Island every year since the late 90's. We love the Hilo side of the island and have stayed at many homes in the Kapoho area. This year, we opted to try something different and were THRILLED that we did! We spent 9 days at Kai Malolo in Pahoa and next year will spend our entire 2 weeks there. The home is beautiful and so well appointed, we wanted for nothing. The grounds are gorgeous and so well maintained--lush green lawns, gardenias planted right outside the bedroom windows that scented the rooms at night. Right out the back door is a quick hike over a lava field to the most breathtaking ocean views! The lovely neighbors brought us fresh cut bananas
and coconuts. The home is so close to everything but at the same time so secluded--Old Hawaii at its finest! A beautiful drive down a narrow road with Zen stones balanced perfectly back dropped by the crashing surf was breathtaking. The pool was perfect! The house is filled with beautiful furniture and artwork--we fell asleep every night to the sounds of the ocean and awakened to beautiful sunrises~~it really was a slice of heaven and we're already booking for next year---before the secret gets out!
Firstly, the property is absolutely gorgeous. It is located in a remote, but not too remote, location. It makes you feel like you've really got your own Oasis but it's not too far to get what you need. The pool was great, the deck is wonderful, the house is spotless and the views of the ocean are unmatched. We were there during a time when the surf was really high and huge waves were crashing along the cliffs in front of the house. This is one of those places that we were trying to figure out how to come back as soon as possible. If you go, make sure you visit the hot ponds and Kilauea and Mauna Kea at least once or twice like we did. Kilauea at night is unbelievable and you will never forget it. Everything about this place is first class, even the mountain bikes were very high-end. The only challenge for us was finding enough motivation to leave the house to go explore because it was just so beautiful there we didn't want to leave! Thank you Terry for being so helpful and efficient.
My husband and I recently stayed at Kai Malolo and we didn't want to come home. The pictures are accurate - the house has amazing views of the ocean. We spent some afternoons in the private pool (which was spectacular) and cooked at the house every night. The Goldendoodle next door is very friendly and visited us on many occasions. We had the best time and we will be back as soon as we can!
Beautiful and comfortable house; beautiful landscaping; beautiful oceanfront!
This is the non-tourist vision people have of Hawaii: with the wonderful, untouched, forested area surrounding it. And, the waves crashing on the shoreline only add to the picture. This is Hawaii at its best.
We swam in one of the nearby public thermal pools, aaahhh! I would love to be there right now!
It was the perfect vacation.
The house notebook with information about the house and area is very helpful. Many good suggestions, tips, and hints.
The owners indicated they have tried to think ahead of the needs of visitors, and they have done a very good job in that respect.
Terry, the property manager, made the rental process relatively easy and worry-free: keeping in touch and passing on information. A pat on the back to you!
Yes, we enjoyed all of it!
This property is amazing. Great views, beautifully kept grounds and a great refreshing pool. The home is very well stocked for all the basic needs. It's location is great for exploring the east and south areas of the island. The neighbor dog is bonus! We will definitely return.
I've been to Kai Malolo twice - once in July and again over Thanksgiving. It's truly a beautiful location and a comfortable well-maintained property. The property is really breath taking surrounded by dense jungle and expansive ocean views. It's very easy to decompress and wind down - this place sucks the stress right out of me. It has a very off the grid feeling yet if you want to be connected there's internet, wifi, and Dish TV. The house has everything needed for cooking and a few basic supplies in the pantry. Beds and furniture are all comfy.
It would be very easy to stay put at Kai Malolo for the entire visit just hanging out on the lanai, lounging in the pool, watching the ocean from the lava cliffs, and walking/biking the dirt road through the jungle, but there are things to do close by including snorkeling at the Kapoho tide pools, swimming in the lava warmed ocean pool at Ahalanui Park (both within 15 minutes from the house). The village of Pahoa itself is small with a few decent restaurants - Ning's Thai is pretty awesome. There's also Malama Grocery store, Island Natural Foods, Longs, and Ace Hardware. While there's not a whole lot to do in town, it's nice that it's not overrun with tourists.
I totally enjoyed both of my visits and can't wait to return!
