This characterful and spacious house is only a short stroll from Lower Largo`s long sandy beach, an ideal location for a romantic walk or for families to enjoy a relaxing beach holiday, but equally popular for golfers to enjoy the many golf courses within close proximity.

With a combination of classically elegant and contemporary interiors Bridgend House offers luxurious facilities including a contemporary kitchen and bathrooms, with black granite worktops in the former and large profile tiling and power showers – and with all the extras you could hanker for, including flat screen TVs and an iPod docking station. Also it has super comfy beds, Egyptian cotton linen, fluffy towels and leather sofas you can really relax in.

This stylish, beautifully appointed C listed detached holiday house is in the heart of the quaint village of Lower Largo. The village nestles around a small harbour now primarily used by pleasure craft. From here you can step on to miles of golden sandy beach literally on your door step.

We took inspiration for the contemporary style and finish of Bridgend House from the Boutique style of hotel that we like to stay in with feature walls in most bedrooms and contemporary bathrooms with large profile lime stone tiles and power showers. In addition we added lots of little extra touches to make our guests feel special. However we have deliberately kept some of the original features of the old building to maintain the unique character and charm of the property.

Relax on your own private patio and soak up the sea views

Above all else we wanted to make the Bridgend House an inviting place for you to relax and unwind in. The house is very comfortably furnished and has its own private patio with garden furniture so you can savour the peace and quiet and appreciate the stunning views over the harbour and out to sea. Watch the lobster boats bobbing about in the waves or stroll over to the Crusoe Hotel and enjoy a glass of chilled wine on the pier gazing out to sea.

Lower Largo`s stunning expanse of sandy beach is also a favourite for kite surfers and walkers – the local sailing club is very active and the sailing boats make a dazzling display when they are out on the water.

The accommodation comprises 3 bedrooms (king-size, twin and single) 2 bathrooms, large lounge, spacious fully equipped kitchen and utility room and will normally sleep up to five people but it can accommodate six as a pull out bed can be provided, if required, at a small extra charge to include all linen and towels. Also the Crusoe Hotel, which is a short walk away, provides excellent food and a friendly bar to socialise in so no one has to cook!

Bridgend House has so much to keep you busy nearby; the amazing beaches, golf courses, coastal path and so much more yet within a short drive you are in St. Andrews where you will find the Championship Golf Courses, superb beaches, the historic St. Andrews University, the Castle, Cathedral and so much more. The charming streets of this medieval town and ancient architecture make the town unforgettable and no visit to St Andrews is complete without a stroll along The West Sands.

Bridgend House is also an excellent base for visiting the unique Fife coastal fishing villages or to enjoy some wonderful walking or cycling locally. Edinburgh and Glasgow are also easily accessible by train, bus or car.

The ideal location for a romantic hideaway, family holidays, a beach holiday, golf tours or short breaks.

History of the house

Bridgend House is over 200 years old and we understand it was in the same family laterally for over 100 years. There are some fascinating old photographs which show the house in the Railway Tavern including one with an old sail boat moored right in front of the property. It also shows the original location of the bridge across the harbour which was initially much closer to the house. Many years ago there was a small shop on the current parking area where the owner would sell fish and other items that he caught on his boat. When renovating the property in 2011 we came across a very old glass bottle that was being used to prop up the stairs and some old newspapers under the carpets dating back to 1924!

Local restaurants and shops only minutes away

There is a general grocery shop, great local pub called the Railway Tavern and the Crusoe Hotel which does excellent food all within a 2 minute walk of the house so no need to cook if you don’t want to . It is also close to Elie and a 15 minute drive from St Andrews.

A large Sainsbury supermarket is only a 10 minute drive from the house so you can stock up when you get here.

Originally a lawyer I decided on a career change in 2008 and have been in tourism ever since.

I love getting to meet my guests and tell them a bit about the local area to ensure that they have the most amazing time.

I adore this property. It has such a great feel as soon as you walk in the door. It has stunning views over the harbour and sea and is a minute from the long sandy beach.

About to return to this beautiful, well positioned house. Our first stay was just for a weekend but this time we will enjoy it for a week!! The house is decorated to a very high standard and is well equipped. The beach is on your doorstep and the view out over the harbour is rather special.

Perfectly charming home away from home!

Bridgend House was delightful in every way! The descriptions and photos, while lovely, do not do it justice. The rooms were clean, bright, modern and luxurious. Maggie provided great service. She was so welcoming, answered our many questions and made us feel at home. We would highly recommend this property to anyone traveling to Fife!

Welcome To The Kingdom of Golf!

St. Andrews and the surrounding area has been referred to as ’A GOLF THEME PARK’. We boast some of the best Links Courses in the U.K. There are Parkland courses as well. Courses to suit all abilities.

1) The Old Course, St Andrews

It all started around 1400AD and six centuries later the Old Course will host its 27th Open (not the British Open as BskyB would have it) – it’s THE Open, in 2005. You’ll need a handicap certificate (max 24 for men, 36 for women), £110 (£50 in winter) and a bit of luck to be successful in the daily ballot.

2) The New Course, St Andrews

It’s new but only in comparison to the Old as it was laid out in 1895. Owing to its undulating terrain it’s generally regarded as a tougher challenge than the Old. Green fee £55.

3) Jubilee Course, St Andrews

Two years younger than the New, the Jubilee, opened in honour of Queen Victoria’s Silver Jubilee in 1897, is right next to the sea and, being partly laid out on the sand dunes, is the roughest of the 3 championship courses Hosts the amateur Championship in 2004. Green fee £50

4) Eden Course, St Andrews

Designed by the legendary Harry S Colt and opened at the start of the Great War, the Eden has the most testing undulating greens of all the links courses. Green fee £30

5) The Castle Course, St Andrews

Following the coastline east of St Andrews, The Castle Course is two miles from the town centre. Work on the ground began early in 2005.

The designer, David McLay Kidd, creator of Bandon Dunes on the West Coast of America, has created a typical Scottish golf experience. Each hole has a choice of five tees and the course will be playable between about 5300-7200 yards.

There is also a clubhouse warm-up area and practice putting green.
