A trip to remember

  • 5 of 5

This home was great for our family of twelve. It is laid out well and the downstairs game room and bunk beds gave the grandgirls space of their own. The beds were comfortable, the kitchen well supplied with equipment, and the view beautiful. An extra benefit was our evening guests. The deer came each evening and one venturesome buck grazed near the deck. The house is located near the market, restaurants, and activities. Based on other reviews, I was a bit nervous about the steep entrance and parking. I understand why that might be the case in winter, but for a summer visit it wasn't a problem. The Kehoe's were great to work with and quick to respond to all of our questions. The only suggestion I would make is to bring box fans. Like most mountain homes there is no air conditioning. Daytime temperatures are normally in the 70s or 80s, but our last day it was near 90. That said, night temperatures dropped into the 50s and I reached for the comforter to stay warm. I am fighting selfishness to tell you I highly recommend this home and will stay here again. The more people know about this place the harder it will be to schedule a trip.

Where to start....when we arrived we noticed we were secluded on the side of the mountain with a private view of almost no houses as well as a short 2 min drive to the restaurants, bars and store. The cabin itself was amazing! We had a fire 2 out of 3 nights there and it warmed the entire house (loved that as I am a florida girl ;)) Each morning we saw deer walk from the side of the cabin down to the lower slope of the hill, neat to sit on the porch and watch them feed. We will be back again, this place was amazing!!!

Great cabin!

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay. The cabin was in great shape & clean. The view from the deck was spectacular. We would definitely use this cabin again!

Our only snafu was the heat. We visited in mid-June. Being Texan, we are used to having some AC if it gets a little toasty inside. We completely understand that having air conditioning for this cabin would be used minimally considering where it is. However, my husband and I slept in the master bedroom on the third story. It was 80-81 degrees in our bedroom each night as we went to sleep. With windows open and ceiling fan running, it would cool down to 70 by morning, but trying to go to sleep at 81 degrees every night was tough for this Texas girl.

Beautiful setting, no fuss no muss!

  • 4 of 5

Our stay was just great, the house had a lot of beds. The downstairs was great for the kids to play and have fun. The kitchen was well stocked. A no fuss no muss kind of cabin. Great for families. The cabin had a beautiful view. Nice woods for playing and hiking. Great spots for a smores. We had a wonderful time. Thank you for sharing your cabin with us! We would love to come again.

Beautiful View

  • 4 of 5

The view is absolutely gorgeous! The location was perfectly located, close to the ski-lift and shopping. You really need 4-wheel drive for this property. We had four vehicles in all, two that were 4-wheel drive and two that were not. Needless to say, the two vehicles without 4-wheel drive had to remain parked the whole time we were there. When we got ready to leave they had to be towed out. The cabin itself is sufficient, with plenty of sleeping space as advertised. We had 18 people sharing 2 bathrooms, which wasn't ideal. Of course, the toilets got stopped up. The book said there was a plunger in the main bathroom behind the toilet, but it wasn't there. After searching everywhere I could think of to look for one with no luck, I decided to go to the local store and purchase one. When we were cleaning up before we left, I actually found the original plunger in the broom closet in a plastic bag. We left the one we purchased in the upstairs bathroom because we knew future guests would need it. I'm a 63-year old woman with a heart valve problem, and I was sick the whole time I was there due to the altitude. Climbing the stairs (and there are a lot of them) was particularly difficult for me. The master bedroom is on the top level but it is the largest and has one of the bathrooms so that is where my husband and I slept. I would recommend this property for younger people who have 4-wheel drive vehicles, but old people like me need a different property.

Owner's Response: Hi Georgia, Thank you so much for the valuable and honest feedback. It sounds like you easily could have rated us much lower based on your experience. We very much appreciate it and we feel that it is valuable information for other potential guests who may be considering our property. First of all, I am so sorry about your altitude sickness. I know that can be miserable. That being said, you have helped me help other guests. I will now include a recommendation to travelers who may be prone to altitude sickness to talk to their doctor about a Rx for Acetazolamide (Diamox). We have a Doc friend who takes it every time he visits us in Angel Fire. Toilets - I have not been satisfied with the flush power of these toilets since we bought the place. You are the first person to bring it up, but I know others have been "using the plunger" more than they should. Every summer, we have a couple of weeks blocked off for maintenance. This summer, we will get those things replaced! Please contact me directly so I can reimburse you for the plunger that you purchased. I will make sure the cleaning crew puts it in the correct spot. Driveway - Surprisingly, our driveway is one of the more accessible driveways in Angel Fire when there is snow and ice. We do always recommend to guests that whether you have 4WD or 2WD, that you have chains. Our driveway gets afternoon sun which melts the snow, unfortunately, that can turn to ice overnight, which can make it difficult with even 4WD if you do not have chains. I would be very interested to know if you were unable to get out even with snow chains. I would like to give our prospective guests accurate information to ensure the best possible stay. Thanks again for taking the time to provide feedback! Sincerely, Troy Kehoe
