Conveniently located just south of Gainesville in Historic Micanopy, this fully furnished, in-law apartment is situated on 10 private, wooded, rural acres and would be ideal for parents visiting their children at UF, folks interested in catching a football game, couples driving down south for vacation and individuals here on business.
Queen bed and full bath upstairs, futon that can be converted into a bed, full bath, full kitchen, washer and dryer downstairs. Wireless internet available. Personal carport and separate entrance to unit. Lots of natural light and beautiful views.
10 miles to Gainesville from either hwy 441 or hwy 75, 25 miles from Ocala and 2.5 miles from downtown Micanopy. Lots of walking and biking and Paynes Prairie is 3 miles with miles of hiking/ biking trails.
This is a good value for a stay over, appropriately priced for the budget or youthful traveler. The best of this property is the owner, very friendly & concerned for your stay. And the grounds - pool and horse arena are beautiful to gaze. The apartment was as shown in the photos, for us it was a throw back to our college pads of the 70's. Clean. The bedroom is not only upstairs, but the spiral staircase limited what we felt comfortable carrying up/down; so we left our luggage downstairs. The Queen size bed OK, could use a thick mattress cover. The kitchen was well stocked to make staying in very possible. We had trouble getting the TV to work, but did not ask for help as it was late at night when we returned to watch it and leaving the next day.
We really enjoyed our stay here, although we'd been a little worried about living so close to the owners, we needn't have worried at all, they were a delight! We felt well secluded in our comfy corner of the house, and really appreciated the help the owner gave including recommending (and printing off directions to) restaurant and places to visit, as well as the use of her laptop and printer to book-in for our flights when we left... now that's service!
The location close to the Interstate (yet way out of sight or sound of it) makes it ideal for visiting local attractions (we soon got used to the rough track to the house!!). When it came to state parks, you are spoilt for choice within a 1 hour's drive. The unusual Paynes Prairie is very close indeed, and you mustn't miss the La Chua trail entrance where (as the owner explained) you will see gators in the wild. We did the whole hot and sunny 3 miles of the trail to catch a glimpse of more water birds and the wild horses, though sadly there were no bison when we visited. However I don't recommend this trek unless you aren't phased by heat (it was late October but we are UK people and used to cooler climes). Instead just do about 1 mile round trip to not too far past the end of the boardwalk and you will see gators galore!
Around Gainesville we enjoyed the Museum of Natural History and especially its superb (best ever seen) butterfly house, as well as the Kanapaha Botanical garden. For swimming in springs we eventually decided against the fun and games at Ginnie's Springs (only 1 of us wanted to swim), and instead discovered a bit of paradise the other side of the river at Rum Island. Small, with a free car park and picnic tables, this had heavenly clear water so you easily saw fish swimming against the turquoise-tinted substrate. At busy times I understand the water is not clear because of the many visitors.
I thoroughly recommend it, and would hope to stay again if we ever visit Florida in the future. Only regret? That VBRO doesn't allow me to put photos on this review!
We were in town for 1 night visiting Davil's den. Our stay in apartment was excellent. Very clean, we had everything we needed!

Wonderful rental in the Gainesville area. Owners are welcoming and hospitable, while respecting your privacy. I would recommend for anyone needing a place to stay in the area.
We were very comfortable in this quiet, peaceful retreat. The family is very welcoming and hospitable but were very aware of our need for privacy. The apartment is roomy and well equipped. We were so happy to have a full kitchen after having to make do with small apartment sized ones at another location. We were able to have our 2year old grandson stay overnight with us several times. He loved the swings, horses, cat, chickens, sand pile with toys, etc. Our hosts have two darling daughters and the three of them had a great time playing together. The road from Micanopy is dirt/sand. It is a surprise the first time we drove it, but we soon found it fun to wind into the 'jungle' to our private drive and very safe place. We loved this place and we plan on returning. It is only a short drive into Gainesville (about 20 minutes).
Off the beaten path and peaceful, what else can you ask for?!?!?!
Our hosts were great, lots of little perks and even a birthday present for my wife when we arrived. The horses were beautiful and the apartment offered us a much need place to rest after working at the Gatornationals all weekend. Wish we could have met the armadillo!
Looking forward to staying there again!
