Description

Photos and Description of this 8 bedroom holiday chalet in Erlenbach im Simmental - 200 Year Old Swiss House

An ideal historic Swiss house for large families and groups, with 1000m2 garden

This historic house was built in 1820 and offers a unique Swiss 'Biedermeier' experience in the Swiss Alps.

8 bedrooms and a large living room with antique furniture give plenty of space for up to three families.

As a matter of fact, this house was built for the local veterinary, who became wealthy because of the sale of the world famous Simmental cows.

The layout of the house and the exceptionally high ceilings (compared to regular historic houses in the Simmental valley) are a testimony of the first owner's taste and who commissioned the construction to host his large family: they were all very tall.

There's a central heating system and antique wood ovens (with precious tiles) that keep you warm and cosy in winter time.

A 1000 sqm. backyard, with apple and pear trees and vineyards and the adjacent church give plenty of space to roam freely through the garden with a marvelous view on the surrounding Swiss Alps.

The world famous mountain 'Jungfrau' in Interlaken, mundane Gstaad and plenty of ski resorts can all be reached within half an hour.

Small authentic shops with Swiss Cheese, bread and all you need to prepare a Swiss Fondue or Raclette are just across the street.

Biedermeier

Schau, dort spaziert Herr Biedermeier

und seine Frau, den Sohn am Arm;

sein Tritt ist sachte wie auf Eier,

sein Wahlspruch: Weder kalt noch warm.

Room for a whole "company"

  • 4 of 5

A truly old house, furnished as in the old times, with huge rooms, having plenty of space for extra beds if wanted. We were happy to find the house already heated and cosily warm when we arrived. A deception was, that of the two WCs only one was in function, what had not been told to us. The kitchen and it's Equipment are old but sufficient. We enjoied the large garden behind the house, though for very jung children it would be to steep. For one or two large families searching no luxury it is a perfect stay.
