Description

Photos and Description of this 1 bedroom holiday apartment in Downtown - Cozy Flat in Downtown Memphis

Centrally Located Downtown Memphis Apartment - Fully Furnished With Kitchen

The Exchange Building, completed in 1910 and listed in the National Register of Historic Places, was refitted in 1996 to house 202 attractive efficiencies, one and two bedroom apartments, penthouses, and handicap equipped units. While the building has undergone a series of renovations, every effort has been made to preserve its historic features, such as the original mosaic tiles, an early-1900’s era Tennessee marble staircase, the elaborate plasterwork, and the granite surfaces. The towering marble ceilings of the lobby exude the elegance of downtown living.

Located in the heart of the Downtown Neighborhood – near the nightlife, restaurants, and shopping – our apartments are the ideal home base for exploring the city. Living in a 19-story skyscraper allows a breathtaking view of the Mississippi River. Walk outside and explore the rich, dense neighborhood. Fine dining is offered within blocks at renowned restaurants such as Rendezvous!, The Majestic Grille, or Flights. Enjoy a pint at the neighborhood Irish pub, The Brass Door, or make the three-minute drive to Beale Street and relish in its famous bars such as Silky O’Sullivans, Alfred’s, or Bardog Tavern. You could also take the trolley to Beale St, to the Pyramid, or around the downtown area, since there is a trolley stop a block away.

The apartments provide a homey feel with a luxurious touch and high-quality amenities. Several of the units located on the higher floors provide our residents a spectacular view. Units come with a kitchen, fully equipped with refrigerator, microwave, oven/stove, pots/pans, and dishes. The Management office on the first floor is ready to assist you during business hours, and, as many of my residents already know, I am always just a phone call away. A laundry room with coin-operated machines and a gym on the top floor are easily accessible through the three elevators.

There are public metered spots all around the building. If metered parking is not available, there is a nearby parking garage (1 block away) available for a fee. Note that these prices are non-negotiable since the garage is operated by a separate business.

Situated at an unbeatable location with competitive pricing, our apartments are a click away from becoming your future home or weekend getaway. Let yourself be inspired by the view and invigorated by the bustling and lively neighborhood. Rest up in our comfortable abodes and make sure to spend enough time exploring the giant playground that is the City of Memphis. Come home and enjoy the many amenities, such as the laundry room and the gym, and the luxurious construction and styling of The Exchange Building Apartments.

Good location, not well maintained

  • 2 of 5

The location of this apartment was terrific and the front desk staff was friendly and helpful.

The free pass to use a local gym was a nice touch. But while the apartment was clean, it was not in good condition. The window blinds and sofa were broken. The television sound was distorted because the speaker was located on the bottom of the set and it rested directly upon the table. The garbage disposal and dishwasher were both unbelievably loud and seemed like they were barely functioning. The kitchen was very sparsely appointed - we had difficulty attempting to prepare a simple meal there.

Fun Night Out!

  • 4 of 5

Unit was clean (except for a pair of underwear and sock that was left in the drawer beside the bed). Unit was quiet and comfortable. Bathroom located inside bedroom, so if sharing unit, know you will have to keep bedroom door open at night. Only 1 mirror in the bathroom. Could use another somewhere (maybe a full-length mirror on wall or door). Was able to get more towels and sheets/blanket for the couch through front desk. Great location and short walk to Beale/Downtown areas. Also took bus/Trolley to Pyramid for $1. All in all, we were pleased with our stay.

Perfect Location

  • 4 of 5

This apartment was great and in an excellent location right downtown. It's a pretty basic place, so don't expect lavish accommodations. Even thought it's a standard VRBO apartment, the building is mix use, so you have to check-in at the small hotel lobby off the ground floor. The apartment is one bedroom one bath with a kitchen and sofa in a small living room. It is a full kitchen, but it isn't stocked well enough to do a lot of cooking. There is no included parking, however parking meters are free on the weekends. There is a lot of parking available within a couple of blocks of the building, free between 6 on Friday and 8 on Monday, so don't pay for parking if you're there on a weekend. The owner was very communicative and overall it was a great place to stay in Memphis.

Basic, simple, very affordable apartment

  • 4 of 5

The property seems to be in transition. But I also feel that the place was advertised correctly, so I knew what to expect. Some rooms are a higher grade (or newly renovated) more so than others. All the basics were present. Could have been cleaner at check in. Appliances and shower all worked very well.

If you are looking to save money while sight seeing this is the place for you. If you are planning on spending a large amount of time working or staying in the condo you may want to go for something a little more comfy.

Wrong pictures, lumpy old mattress, great location

  • 3 of 5

The pictures did NOT reflect the space, nor the view. We were expecting a view of the Mississippi River. The bed was OLD and too soft. We had to call home office several times THE DAY OF ARRIVAL before we could get the address, let alone how to get the key. The shower needs some CLR or some kind of cleanser to get a proper water stream, and the shower towels were only hand towels. Other than that, cheap parking nearby and good location walking distance to Beale.

Owner's Response: Dear Joy, Sorry to hear about your stay. Please note that we write in our description of the listing: "lovely view of Downtown Memphis", nowhere is it mentioned that you would see the Mississippi River from this apartment. Please also note that we always provide additional towels (large and small) upon request, just like in any hotel. As for the bed, we recently replaced that mattress because guests would say the bed is too hard. Since there are many different mattress preferences, we cannot possibly accommodate all requests. We will work to resolve the shower stream, however being a historic building may have a lot to do with it. Having said that, we are working on renovating some of our apartments so please come visit us again and we promise you a better stay. Sincerely, Naira

Cozy apartment

  • 4 of 5

Very comfortable, nothing missing. This place is indeed really close to Beale Street, but if you don't know the city, you might find yourself farther than you thought from other areas of interest (The Cooper-Young area definitely deserves a visit).

Notes:
Located in the heart of Downtown Memphis at the corner of Second Street and Madison Avenue – we are within close proximity of all the best nightlife and dining the neighborhood has to offer. HUNGRY? The options are endless. You are within blocks of the FOOD Network’s beloved Rendezvous Barbeque Restaurant. Or try the Majestic Grill for American Cuisine. If you can’t decide, stop by fine dining restaurant FLIGHT where you can sample not one, but three items on the menu! THIRSTY? Walk to and hang out with the locals at The Brass Door Irish Pub or Bardog Tavern. Or take a short Trolley ride to party on the world famous Beale Street where you will find bars like Silky O’ Sulivans, Alfred’s and BB King’s. Some great places I recommend to visit: For Breakfast/Lunch: Blue Plate Cafe, Trolley Stop, The Little Tea Shop, Flights (fancy), Flying Fish. For Dinner: Texas de Brazil (fancy), Felicia Suzanne, Aldo's. Bars: Bardog, Brass Door, Earnestine & Hazel's
