About Bill Everett

I lived in Laconia, NH until I was 18 year old and spent a lot of time on Lake Winnipessaukee in New Hampshire. My uncle owned part of an island just out from the Weirs Beach. During the 60's Lake Winnipesaukee was not to crowded. This is where I leaned to love the wilderness and water. This property that we offer is very much in the wildernesss of Maine and the water is pristine. The fishing is excellent and there are two small beaches on the 815 feet of shore line. My wife and I presently live in Newport, RI and have six chlidren and eight grandchildren. I am in my late 60's, still working and decided to rent this property in hopes that we can own it thru our retirement. With all the chlidren and grandchildren we do not have as much time to spend at this cabin as we would like. Our childrens ages are from 23 to 43 and the grandchildren are from 3 mouths to 21 years old. They keep us busy. If you decide to us this property I hope that you enjoy it as much as we do.

Bill Everett purchased this cabin in 2003

Why Bill Everett chose Monson

The reason I bought this property is that when I first saw it I was amazed by the view of the water. Looking west over the water you are approximately 7 story's above the water. The sun sets are absolutely breath taking. It has everything, screened porch, large log cabin, great fishing, swimming, small beach, very private, and lots of land for you to explore.

What makes this cabin unique

The second most unique thing is the large size of the cabin.

main floor 2,400 ft2

sceened porch 780 ft2

room over the porch

loft over the two bedrooms

deck 300 ft2

The third most unique thing, the sunset views over looking the water.

Everything we hoped for and more!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Bill and Marie’s beautiful cabin for a week and had a wonderful time! The property is tucked away so it feels completely peaceful and private but it is also close to the shops and restaurants of downtown Monson (which is charming) and Greenville which is fun to explore. The views of the water and woods are lovely and the cabin itself was huge, clean and had so much fun character. We had everything we needed for the week plus lots of fun extras - the kids loved the air hockey and foozeball tables, games, puzzles, fire pit and boats! Bill was a very gracious and helpful host and checked in with us before during and after our stay to make sure all was well. We would absolutely come back and can highly recommend to anyone!

Owner's Response: Meghan, thank you for your review. It is music to our ear when we hear how much our guest enjoy our property. We work very hard to make and keep the cabin so our guest enjoy themselves. I fix in my mind that if someone is going to spend a week of their vacation time at our property it is my job to do everything I can to make sure they have the best time possible. If you can think of anything we could do to improve the property please let me know. Thank you again for using our property and we do hope you will return. May peace be on you.

Wonderful Isolated Cabin!

  • 5 of 5

We loved Bill's cabin. He is an amazing host and the most responsive and helpful I have ever experienced while staying in VRBO rentals. We spent one week with 2 adults, 2 dogs and 4 teens. Thanks for letting us bring our dogs! We got there during the evening and driving down the dirt one-way road to the house - I thought - this is so isolated and amazing. Just what we needed after living in an in-close suburb near DC. The cabin is huge, with surprisingly comfortable beds, and wonderfully decorated. When I say wonderfully decorated - that is an understatement! I'm sure that we didn't see all the interesting items he has in the cabin - look up is all I can say. The kitchen has everything you need to cook. We spent lots of time on the large screened in porch watching the humming birds feed at the feeder and working on puzzles and playing family games. We also loved the deck overlooking the lake. We spent every day on the large dock - swimming and kayaking. Be aware that it is a long flight of stairs to the dock - but worth it. The lake is private - most days we never saw another person on the lake. We took the ferry over to Mt. Kineo and hiked up to the fire tower at the top. Amazing views. Hiked to Little Wilson Falls and Borestone Mountain. White water rafted with Northern Outdoors on the Kennebeck River - amazing trip. Saw lots of deer and wild turkeys. No moose though. Always next time! This property is one of a kind and shouldn't be missed! Lisa

Owner's Response: Lisa, thank you for your review and using our property. We work very hard to make our guest conformable and try to make sure they know what the Monson area has to offer. I would recommend taking a moose safari the next time you are in the Monson area or just drive north of Monson by about 30 miles and you will be on dirty roads. Your chances of seeing moose are much higher the farther you get away form populated areas.

Absolutely perfect, pictures don't do this property justice!!!!

Michelle W.

Upon arriving, my group and I took a cursory look around, excited to see everything. Walking into the expansive living area, immediately seeing the water from the windows we had to go there first before unloading our cars, and we were not disappointed as we reached the docks. Clean, clear water to swim or use the canoe or kayaks, or just sit and take in the view and listen to the loons.

The house itself was amazing! Plenty of room for my larger family ( 13 of us) with space left over. The porch was a favorite for reading or playing a game while little ones where napping after playing in the water or walking the property.

There were so many cool things to look at and discover inside the house, and even a spot with toys and books for young children, which they were very happy with. My teenage son asked if we really had to leave at the end of the week.

My intention with this family vacation was totally met with the help of this property. We are always going different directions, and busy with work and life, I just wanted someplace to be together and unplug, and make memories. Thank you to the owners for opening up this fabulous home to renters to enjoy!!!

I had some reservations about the stairs down to the water with having a 2, and a 3 year old, but they handled them like champs! And the gate at the top of the stairs was an added bonus.

The ride to the trading post and visiting that area was beautiful as well, a long with checking out the general store, gallery, and antiques in downtown Monson.

We are ready to book this again next year for another family vacation and making it a yearly thing.

Thank you Everett family!!!!

Owner of the cabin

  • 5 of 5

I am the owner of the cabin and we visit at least three time a year for a total of 8 to 9 weeks. We go up in the spring, summer and fall. We enjoy the local people, the cabin privacy, kayaking, looking for moose, hiking, fishing, swimming in the crystal clear water, the cool nights, siting on the screened in porch when it is raining, walks in the woods on the property, watching the humming birds, watching for hawks & edges, watching for deer on the property, have children and grandchildren visit, etc. We have owned the cabin for 15 years and hope to have many more years of enjoyment in Monson. One other thing that we enjoy now is the fact that the Libra Foundation is developing Monson into a profitable Maine country community. In the last three year I believe they have spent $23,000,000 and it looks like they are less then half way done. They are making Monosn into an art community. Historical Monson has been an art community and the slate capital of the world. Slate has had it day and now is only use for very special things. There were 13 slate quarries in Monson form the 18 hundreds into the 50's. We surely enjoy it when other people can have the chance to rent or place and enjoy it.

More than expected!!!

  • 5 of 5

My family and I just spent a week at this cabin and it was amazing. On the day of our arrival we got there a lot later than planned so it was very dark and although I had directions once you hit the gravel road the cabin is on it is a little concerning in the dark. When we arrived and turned the lights on it was a definitely a "Wow" moment. It is so much bigger than it looks in pictures. Lots of neat things to look at, plenty of space for everyone. And very comfortable seating and beds. We were already very pleased. But when we woke up the next morning we couldn't believe the view from our room let alone the one from the back deck. It was just beautiful!!! We hit the lake immediately. There were alot of fun toys to play with both in the house and on the lake. The stairs were a bit of a challenge when we would forget something but other than that they didnt bother us. While inside my kids loved playing with the scooter and the pool table. There were also plenty of games to play as a family.

For supplies we would go about 20 minutes up the road to the trading post in Greenville. I just really liked that store. The had a little of everything. The only downside to the whole trip was beyond the cabins/owners control. I looked all over the place for a moose and didnt see a one. Thos big guys are really hard to find!! Overall wonderful experience!!! Thank you so much!

Owner's Response: Jen, thank you for your review. I simply love it when people enjoy our property. Once someone books our property my job is to make sure they have the best time possible. I am sorry you did not get to see a moose. If you had driven north of Greenville you would have had a much better chance of seeing moose. My family is at the cabin this week and one of the things we have added is a set of moose hones that a friend gave me. If you do get a change to come back I would recommend going on a moose safari. I will send you a video of a moose sighting that we got about a year ago. It is of a entire family, bull, cow and a baby. We saw this family north of Greenville. There are a few local moose safari companies I could recommend. We continue to try an improve the property. If you can think of anything that we could do to improve the property for our guesses please let me know. One of the things I think we can do to improve the property is to put in an outside light post with a timer so when someone arrives late they will have some light. I do ask the property care takers to leave lights on in the cabin. Jen, I hope you and your family will return to our property. That you again for using our place and you great review.

The most relaxing family vacation

  • 5 of 5

“You knocked it out of the park, Mom.”

This was the reaction of our 23 old son on our second day at Ledges Lodge. We had decided on a cabin in Maine for our family vacation for the week of July 4th and we are so happy we chose this cabin! There were 10 of us and there was plenty of room for everyone - our adult children and significant others (six between 20 and 26 as well as our grandchildren, 5 & 3, my husband and myself). It was warmer than we expected for Maine, but no worries since we practically lived in and on the water! Beautiful, clean, clear water - sitting on the dock you can see clear to the bottom. Kayaks and canoes are on premises, but we brought 2 of our own as well, so we were able to accommodate everyone. The loons calling across the water was amazing and the views were beautiful. We did venture up to Moosehead Lake one day, but the majority of he time felt no need to leave the property. We were even pleasantly surprised to find that we had WiFi, a foosball table, small pool table, air hockey table, and a table that fit all 10 of us! Lots of relaxing on the screened in porch watching the hummingbird’s come to the feeders, reading, building puzzles, bonfires (s’mores!), kayaking, swimming, fishing, sunning, napping, hiking, cooking, grilling and lots of great family time. From the deck, we were able to recline the chairs at night and the sky was incredible! A zillion stars, planets, satellites crossing and we could even see the Milky Way.

The owner, Bill, was very helpful with every aspect of making our vacation a success. It is obvious that he takes pride in his cabin and wants everyone to enjoy it as much as he does. We highly recommend this property.

Owner's Response: Christina, thank you for your review. You are right, I do try to make sure that our guess have a good stay. Once someone list with us my job is simple to make sure that they have a great time at our cabin and I do work hard at that. There is a lot to do in the area so I try to find out what the renters would like to do: fish, hike, ATV, explore the history of the area, kayak, swim etc. We do find that most guesses just stay at the property because there is a lot to do and it is so relaxing and private. We hope you come back. The weather has cooled since your stay. We have had warm days and cool nights.
