Photos and Description of this 3 bedroom holiday cottage in Caroga Lake - 'StoneHaven' Cottage

Rustic 3+ Bedroom, 1.5 Bath, pets considered, sleeps 8+

Tucked in among the large boulders and mature trees, this secluded property is only a 5 minute walk to its deeded access on West Caroga Lake and abuts over 60,000 undeveloped acres of state land known as the Ferris Lake Wild Forest Preserve. The preserve offers endless miles of trails that wind through some of the most beautiful terrain imaginable, all accessible right outside the front door.

Completed in early 2013, StoneHaven was custom designed and built by it's owners to incorporate the luxury of modern and efficient technology into a rustic package. This concept allows visitors to experience the more premium comforts of a home while the décor and setting provide a true Adirondack “camp” experience.

An open floor plan allows an opportunity to engage in conversation, entertain and keep an eye on children all from any vantage point on the first floor. Complement your meals in the dining area with a gaze out the large picture window which affords an uninterrupted view of nature at its finest. Be sure to appreciate the old world craftsmanship of the custom made kitchen cabinetry built in primitive design and utilizing traditional construction methods. Also take note that the walls and ceiling on the first floor as well as most of the trim throughout the house are comprised of knotty pine that was reclaimed and milled locally from the trees that were harvested from the property prior to construction.

Don’t be too surprised to find your morning coffee or evening drink interrupted by a visit from one or more members of our local wildlife community which may include: fox, deer, turkey, chipmunk, possum, rabbit, fisher, mink, raccoon, black bear, bobcat, and many others.

From our family to yours...We sincerely hope that you enjoy your visit here at StoneHaven! Please- relax, unwind and be happy!

About Trent Atkinson

Trent and Patty Atkinson purchased a vacation home in Caroga Lake in the summer of 2007 which would come to be lovingly referred to as 'CrookedWood'. In 2010, they received confirmation that Patty was pregnant with their first child. Although they simply adored their little slice of Adirondack heaven, Trent had determined that the costs associated with renovating CrookedWood to make it 'kid compliant' were not feasible. Coincidentally, at that exact same time their neighbor had made an offer to sell a portion of his property located directly adjacent to them. And thus the idea of 'StoneHaven' was born. CrookedWood was subsequently sold to family friends and Trent began the design and construction of a new slightly larger, more kid friendly, and much more energy-efficient home. Every aspect of the home was carefully planned out in order to maximize use while minimizing size. Also, consideration of environmental impact, both short-term and long-term, had a major influence on every detail of the design. On January 1 of 2013 they officially proclaimed 'construction complete'. StoneHaven is now the second home of the Atkinson Family...Trent, Patty, Harper, Hudson and their yellow labrador Murphy.

A great vacation house! For a hiker or kayaker or a reader, a wonderful area to enjoy the fresh air

  • 5 of 5

Trent and Patty were the perfect host and hostess. The house was clean with all the necessities of home provided. They had great instructions for the house, ideas for eating and touring, maps and literature for the area. Our stay came too soon-we didn't hike all the trails or paddle in all the lakes, so we will come again! Thank you Trent and Patty.

This rental met my families needs.

  • 4 of 5

This small and cozy house is well stocked. We were able to get a first class camping feeling. If you are just not in for the tent set up but want the convenience of the outdoors at your footsteps. This is it. However, the lake access is not so great. Therefore, you really need a boat to enjoy Lake Caroga.

Peaceful cottage in the Adirondacks

  • 5 of 5

As the description says this is a peaceful cottage in the Adirondack Woods. It was lovely to sit on the side porch and not hear anything but the birds and other animals. At night around the campfire we were able to hear the loons on the lake and the owl in the woods.

The cottage is very clean and modern. In fact, a new fridge was put in since last summer. The open floor plan is great for family time. With the hard wood floors all through out the first floor we were able to put the 6 month old in his walker and he could move around to see everyone. This cottage is very kid friendly. They have toys, a big library of kids books and various coloring activities. Trent was very quick to respond to any questions or concerns we had.

We really love that we can bring the dog with us. Our dog is part of the family and don’t want to put her in a kennel when we go away. It’s hard to find a nice place that will accept pets.

The lake access is only about a 3 minute walk which we were able to take our kayaks and keep them pulled up on shore for the week. The lake is very peaceful with out too much motorboat activity. They guys loved fishing off the pier during the day and taking the kayaks out in the evening to fish. Last summer they managed to catch a nice fish dinner for us.

In the last two summers that we’ve rented Stonehaven we’ve gone to Howe Caverns, Secret Caverns, Natural Stone Bridge, Adirondack Animal Land and did the Saranac Brewery tour. We went to Voorman’s restaurant, which is just around the corner, for some really juicy burgers. We walked in around closing time but they were really great about inviting our group to stay for dinner anyway.

We loved our family time at Stonehaven.

Perfect getaway

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful place with everything you need! We had a wonderful time fishing caroga lake and climbing Kane mountain. Can't wait to come again! Owners are very easy to get ahold of and great to work with. We would highly recommend this to anyone who wants to get away!

Girls Weekend

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful and thoughtful. 6 of us get together every spring, new place every year, next year we will be back. It is tastefully decorative, with all the knick knacks and thoughtful touches. I needed to bring two crockpots, forgot one, there's one there. If you have little ones, the bathrooms have potty seats and step stools, upstairs and down have phone chargers. We texted the girls who left first thinking they had left them. Unlike most places, this place has all the comforts of home, not just the basic necessities. A great variety of pots and pans, dishes, beer mugs, etc. We were really impressed and pleased. We won't be looking for a new place next year. And if you are looking for breakfast, Gloversville Palace diner was absolutely a blast and food was great. Say hi to Patty from "the dancers", Thank you for a great weekend. The girls.

Fantastic stay! Felt very comforting!

  • 5 of 5

The property was amazing with respectful neighbors and overall great people. The decor was so comforting inside the cabin as well as the accommodations the owners make for their guest. My girlfriend and I went to Howe Caverns for the traditional tour but we plan to go back to this cabin and take their adventures tour. Loved our two night stay there but wish it was longer! Read their guest book as some great ideas for local travels and places to eat are in there. It was the perfect place to escape the real world and just relax. I would definitely recommend this property to anybody. I especially noticed they were very kid attentive with accommodations throughout the cabin.
