About Connie & Elroy Moulton, Owners

We found our mountain 'cottage' in 2004, while visiting a friend at his mountain chalet in Bethel. After searching for our own getaway for years, we found an old loggers cabin in need of lots of work. We had hope and a vision though. Still do!

Over the years we have added on to our getaway. First we added a full second floor for two bedrooms. We added an indoor bathroom, kept an open concept on the first floor and added tongue and groove paneling. In 2013 we added a three season porch, 2015 we added a small deck, 2016 we added a dishwasher and additional cabinetry and counter space.. Only one of the original walls remain.

We enjoy the quiet of our cabin. Wildlife abounds including a variety of birds all year, black bears in the Spring ,( they do love a birdfeeder if left out), and the sound of owls and distant sled dogs in the winter. When there are clear night skies, star gazing is spectacular! The lack of light pollution of the city lends to the visibility and views.

Our family loves the out-of-doors. We have all you could want in the area. We have hiking (year round), skiing, snowmobiling, hunting, fishing, boating and the ability to be to any of these in a short amount of time. We are only an hour from shopping, if that is what you want, but our best is the mountain air and activities.

We enjoy the back roads with our camera in hand. Over the years we have seen moose, deer, bald eagles, and five years ago we go to see what many say doesn't exist in Maine, a mountain lion. It took three leaps from one side of the road to the other and then stopped on a hillside looking at us. What a thrill that was!!

It is all here or near by, you just have to get out there to see and experience it all!

Sadly, we will not have any availability for the 2016-2017 winter season due to a family illness. Please join us and inquire for availability for Winter 2017-2018.

We look forward to hearing from our repeat guests and getting to know new ones as well!

Chilly weather, comfy Cabin!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Acacia Lodge during record-setting cold weather and Connie was amazing, getting in touch to make sure we were ok and very responsive when the cold caused a few issues. The cabin itself is so cozy and comfortable and has everything you could possibly need! It is a short 15 min drive to Sunday River and we really loved coming back and sitting by the fire after a long day of skiing. Thanks for everything Connie!

Owner's Response: You are very welcome!! I am so happy you chose Acacia Lodge for your stay in the Western Mountains of Maine. You and your family were great and endured the worst weather (-38 wind chill) of the year (so far), losing power from the wind on that oh so cold night, ( for 3 1/2 hours) , and an almost frozen pipe and no complaints. We are so lucky to have people like you that enjoy the out of doors and a quiet place to unwind at the end of the day. We hope you will return again and that we have lots of snow on the ground for your sporting adventures (no wind and no negative wind chill). The generator will be on an auto on for next season!! Have a wonderful winter! Many thanks to you and your family! Connie

Cozy, charming, perfect

  • 4 of 5

We spent New Year's Eve here to go skiing at Sunday River. Connie and Leroy were extremely helpful and accommodating in helping us prepare for the trip. Upon arriving we were delighted by the charming house and pleasantly surprised by all of the little extras. Connie includes cooking appliances and spices, games and movies, as well tons of cleaning supplies and toiletries. The fireplace was the perfect addition to the cabin and excellent for drinking wine around at the end of a full ski day. The beds were very comfortable and everything smelled so clean. We liked the house so much we didn't go out any of the 4 nights we were there! The only caution I have is that the house is pet friendly and there was some pet dander on the couch. My fiancé is very allergic and did have some issues. So just make sure to bring allergy medicine just in case. All in all a perfect trip and we do plan to return and stay again.

Owner's Response: Thanks so much for your kind comments and we are glad you had a great stay and additionally, snow finally arrived in time for your stay! I apologize for the pet hair on the sofa. I had hoped our cleaners had taken care of this. We have called in a special cleaner to make sure this is taken care of for other guests soon arriving and appreciate your honest comments! We strive to make our guests as comfortable as possible! We hope you will choose to stay with us again! Enjoy the winter back in the big city. Sunday River will be awaiting your return! Regards, Connie & Elroy

Great stay!!

  • 5 of 5

We went to Maine in the middle of winter to get away and "unplug." This location allowed us to do that, with the ability to plug back in if needed/wanted. The pictures are exactly what you will find at this location-well decorated, well appointed, clean, well kept, and highly functional. It's just of the beaten path on a nice quiet and picturesque dead end road. We didn't ski but Sunday River is right around the corner and snowmobile trails are a stones throw. All of the amenities of downtown are just a few minutes away and I would consider them convenient. Gorham NH/Mt. Washington maybe 1/2 hr. The owner was accessible by email and phone and a pleasure to deal with.

Great Stay!!!

We had the most amazing time at this home. The pictures do not do it justice for how cute and cozy the inside is. There were four of us who stayed and there was plenty of space. The bedrooms were so welcoming. The kitchen was fully stocked with everything you could possibly need. We skied at Sunday River which was a very short drive. This is a secret gem. We can't wait to head back! It is the perfect home away from home! We would recommend to anyone!

Cozy and Comfy!

  • 5 of 5

My family and I were so happy with our stay at the house. The location was beautiful and serene and within 15 minutes of Sunday River ski resort. The well equipped kitchen had everything we needed and the beds were very comfortable. The house was spotlessly clean and we loved the Christmas decorations that were out. I would definitely stay here again the next time we head to Sunday River for skiing.

Great place - everything you need!

  • 5 of 5

My husband went right after Christmas 2013 with 2 of our adult boys. The Lodge had everything they needed. Wifi. Spotless. The bird feeders were even filled for bird watching. Connie was wonderful to deal with. Could not have been better! :)
