The ocean is there just in front of you. The gulls circle high above in the onshore breeze. The ever-changing seascape is entrancing and mystifying. This serene sight is available to you from one of two decks, or from the comfort of an expansive living room through the picture window, as you nestle with a good book gazing at spectacular watery sunsets. This summer, get away from inland and city heat and be lulled by refreshing ocean breezes.
This beautiful, totally renovated, furnished executive cottage is located on almost an acre of landscaped property. This quality 11-room house has 4 bedrooms that sleep up to 6, plus a sofa bed in the study. The master has a skylight and en-suite. Wake up every morning and your first sight is a sea that stretches forever. The fishers dot the waters checking their traps for lobsters that you can buy wharf side just down the road. Bring your bikes if you have any as the area is popular among cyclists.
The floors are natural pine, oak and laminate. The colours are neutral with the exception of the dining room displaying classic red walls against a dark oak floor. The kitchen flows with its natural pine floors into a breakfast nook area overlooking a small deck that is a favourite hangout for small birds and butterflies.
This character home, which has some quaint low ceilings, has its own history originating from a couple of beach houses that were pulled by horse and cart to its present location over a century ago . This large public beach is very close to the house and has splendid white powdery sand. This executive cottage is definitely an unparalleled vacation retreat or rental home wrapped in one.
We began in 2014 to offer our property as a vacation rental. We believe our renters will enjoy their stay in this beautiful area and we look forward to welcoming them. As the Gaelic saying goes here, 'Cead mile failte' - a hundred thousand welcomes. But let our guests have the final say:

This lease is for a period of ____________ nights, covering a period from _____________________________________
inclusive for the property Whitecaps, located at 1427 Ketch Harbour Road, Sambro Head, Nova Scotia, Canada, and to be used solely by the Lessee and his/her members as identified at the beginning of the lease to the Lessor or Property Manager for the sole purpose of being a vacation home. It cannot be sub-leased or let either wholly or partially, nor for free or at a charge, without previous consent of the Lessor. The maximum number of people staying overnight is seven (7), and any additional people staying overnight anywhere on the property will be considered a breach of contract with an ensuing charge of $250 Canadian per additional person per night. Large gatherings (10+ people) and receptions are strictly forbidden. This Lease/Agreement cannot be renewed after the end date. An extension requires a new lease to be initiated.
The Lessor assumes no responsibility for any loss of the Lessee’s personal or rented property nor any injury, bodily harm or death suffered by the Lessee or any member of his/her group on the property or elsewhere during the period of this Lease/Agreement.
Rent is established for a minimum period of four (4) nights with the daily rate as established and agreed upon through the booking agency, plus applicable taxes and fees. (Refer to the booking agency’s reservation for exact rates). These rates are inclusive of all water and electricity consumption and comply with the booking agency used by the Lessee. The Lessor will provide the Lessee with a signed copy of this agreement at the time of check-in. Photo ID will also be requested at that time. Check-in at 18:00, checkout by 12:00 (noon), unless otherwise pre-determined by the Lessor and Lessee.
The terms of rent require full payment of the duration of the lease at the beginning of the lease period through the appropriate booking agency. If payment is to be made at the time of check-in, and is in agreement with the booking agency’s policy, the full amount must be paid in cash. Otherwise, the Cancellation Policy is:
• Bookings cancelled at least 30 days before the start of the stay will receive a 50% refund.
• Bookings cancelled at least 60 days before the start of the stay will receive a 100% refund.
Cancellations must be made by 23:59 ADT (Atlantic Daylight Time) on the appropriate day.
The damage deposit ($300 in the denomination of the paid rent) is included in the full rental amount, and its return by the Lessor or rental agency to the Lessee is dependent on an end of lease inspection that has determined the property has been left in the same condition as it was found at the beginning of the lease.
The property will be in a clean condition upon assuming the lease, and general cleaning of the building during a lease term is the responsibility of the Lessee. Additional cleaning during a lease term can be provided at a charge of $100 per cleaning. This is a period, character building and respect of it is requested. There must absolutely be no smoking in the building. Any breakage or damage must be reported immediately to the Lessee or Property Manager. Damage, breakage, theft and smoking will be considered grounds for forfeiture of the damage deposit. Beach towels are NOT provided and sand in the house is an automatic forfeiture of the damage deposit.
Any additional telecommunications required by the Lessee is at his/her expense.
In the event of being locked out of the premises or activating the theft alarm resulting in a police call, the ensuing charges are the responsibility of the Lessee.
The Lessee cannot perform any works on the property without previous consent from the Lessor, in writing, with no compensation due to the Lessee. Any water damage resulting from negligent overflowing of sinks, baths or toilets is the responsibility of the Lessee with any reparations at his/her expense.
At the end of this Lease, the Lessee must leave the property, as well as furniture and appliances in it, in the same state of condition and functionality as when the Lease/Agreement started. The condition of the aforementioned property will be assessed by the Lessor or Property Manager at the beginning and shortly after the end of a lease (within 24 hours).
This Lease/Agreement is written in the singular form even though more than one person could be the Lessee, as it is for the Lessor.

In the country and on the ocean, yet close to a city. Relaxing, private and tranquil.
Scenery, seascapes, delicious sunsets and beaches
This seaside cottage is very clean and well-equipped. It is convenient to Halifax and nearby beaches and coves. It sleeps a family of four comfortably with plenty of private space for teenagers. The living room has large couches, hardwood floors, and opens onto a deck with views of the ocean on a sunny day. The kitchen is small but functional, and a supermarket is a 20-minute drive away. As another reviewer comments, part of the charm of the house is the very low ceilings and doorframes, particularly on the second floor, though this charm may be less evident to guests over five feet eight. We hit our heads frequently.
The owners are friendly, attentive, and extremely careful about the property, qualities we appreciated, though they also contributed to an uneasy feeling of “treading on eggshells.” For instance, we were welcomed with a speech about the failure of previous guests to mind the complex garbage/recycling regime. Further, although it’s a beach house, there are no towels or chairs provided for beach use (guests are forbidden to use the house’s towels for that purpose), and guests are warned not to track sand. So, if you require beach towels, bring your own or (if flying to Halifax) purchase them at a nearby Canadian Tire. These are relatively minor points, but this pleasant, well-located home may be more appropriate for some than others.
Whitecaps was a beautiful cozy, comfortable cottage rental! Full of much charm and character. Each day started with a coffee on the many outside decks overlooking the ocean and ended with a nice glass of wine underneath the stars. Richard and Dana where very gracious hosts and we so enjoyed the fresh lobster dinner they came and taught us how to cook! The drive from Whitecaps into Halifax was very scenic and relaxing! Highly recommend this cottage rental!
Richard and Dana were there to greet us, a lovely couple who really wanted us to have a great stay, they took care of lots of details and were very welcoming. We liked being a bit outside Halifax, could walk down the hill to the small local harbour and watch the boats from the many windows in this charming house. It's really 2 cottages joined up so there are lots of nooks and crannies, my husband hit his head on a couple of the lower ceilings but it added to the charm. My son loved to lie in bed and watch the stars out the skylight and the ocean and harbour out the window. Kitchen well appointed, everything airy and spacious and clean, beautiful front room to sit and relax. There are steps and stairs where you don't expect so it's not ideal for mobility issues but we give a big thumbs up to Whitecaps, it was a great place to stay. Local beach lovely and en route to the beautiful Peggy's Cove/Lunenberg/Chester shore, which made an awesome day trip. Groceries at Sobeys about 15 mins up the road, and Halifax about 25 mins away. Very comfortable and unique house.
This charming cottage is just as described in the online listing. It is spacious, clean and well-maintained, and located away from the crowds and still located conveniently close to Halifax, Peggy's Cove and Lunenburg. We loved eating our breakfasts there and then driving to places like Crystal Crescent Beaches where we could walk to a location above the shore to watch the ocean crashing into the huge boulders. It was so nice of Richard and Dana to meet us at the cottage on the evening of our arrival where they gave us a "tour" of their interesting home and assuring us of their availability should anything be needed. Would surely recommend this property for other travelers.
