Overview

Photos and Description of this 4 bedroom holiday cabin in Asheville Area - Pet-Friendly Mountain Cabin

4 Bedrooms, 3 Bathrooms, Sleeps 8

Perched deep in the woods near apple orchards, the Biltmore Estate, and Lake Lure, this sunny log cabin features 4 bedrooms (2 queen upstairs, 1 queen and 1 twin set downstairs), 3 baths, upstairs and downstairs living areas with televisions, a well-stocked kitchen, and a ping-pong table in the garage. It's a great set-up for families with kids.

Enjoy the rocking chairs on the covered back deck as you look out over a wooded hill with winter views. The covered front porch supplies a picnic table and charcoal grill for outdoor eating. Extensive hiking is available at the top of Rich Mountain, a short climb up the hill behind the house. There's lots of room for dogs to roam.

Spend your afternoons tubing on the Green River, fishing in nearby trout streams, apple-picking in conveniently located orchards, climbing Chimney Rock, exploring the Blue Ridge Parkway, visiting the Biltmore Estate, or enjoying antique-hunting and dining in Asheville and Hendersonville. Our central location puts you within 25 minutes of all these activities.

If you want a real get-away, a place that is not in a neighborhood or housing development, our cabin in the woods may be for you. It it laid back and secluded, although still within 13 minutes from all kinds of big-box stores and restaurants in Hendersonville. In fact, the final 1.3 miles to the cabin are on a dirt road that gets rather steep right before the cabin's driveway. The dirt road portion is about a 5-minute drive and do-able in regular cars, except in icy conditions, when it is best to have an SUV or 4-wheel drive. (We normally drive up in a Toyota Prius or Dodge Mini-Van and have no problems, but this IS a mountain dirt road!)

About Joe Kelly

This cabin is owned by two families who live and work in Charleston, SC. We have children that are very close in age, and we all love to go up to the cabin together when we get a chance. The set-up is great for families with children. The kids have their own bedrooms and living area downstairs where they can hang out and leave the grown-ups undisturbed in the evenings. We spend our time at the cabin hiking, holding ping-pong tournaments, sipping wine on the back deck, grilling out, and of course, taking advantage of river tubing, fishing, shopping, etc. in nearby Hendersonville and Asheville.

Why Joe Kelly chose Asheville Area

Our cabin is a great place to get away from it all. We're surrounded by woods and hiking opportunities. After a short hike up the hill behind the house, you will find miles and miles of old logging roads to explore on Rich Mountain and the surrounding hills. Yet, at the same time, we're a short, 13-minute drive away from numerous stores and restaurants in Hendersonville.

What makes this cabin unique

We love the log cabin feel of the place--the all-wood walls and ceilings in the upstairs living room, dining room, kitchen, and bedrooms especially. The cabin is extremely comfortable--laid-back and not fussy.

Peaceful

  • 4 of 5

My sisters and I took our 81 year old father on a much needed family retreat to let him talk about his life and experiences. We believe he is in the early stages of Dementia, so this trip was extra special to all of us. The cabin was exactly as listed and absolutely beautiful. The bedrooms were clean and roomy. Our father spent his quiet time on the front porch rocking and reading his bible, while we spotted a large woodpecker just off the back porch. The yard was somewhat overgrown and the 1.3 mile road in a little more bumpy than I expected for my Nissan Sentra. There was plenty to do in town and in the surrounding areas, but we stayed at the house most of the trip. Our small dogs truly enjoyed their stay as well. The kitchen provided everything you could possible need and having the extra large toaster was a plus. All in all, we enjoyed our stay and the owners were informative and friendly through out our stay. We will use this house again if we can and any other rentals these owners provide. For my family it was an exceptional time.

A wonderful place to stay

  • 5 of 5

We can't say enough good things about our stay at this cabin. It had everything we needed, and then some. The porch with the rocking chairs was our favorite place to unwind after a trip down the mountain to Hendersonville each day. We loved the privacy and enjoyed listening to the birds sing in the morning. We couldn't have asked for a more comfortable and cozy cabin to spend our Memorial Day holiday in. Thank you so much for sharing with us!

Very cute and comfy cabin!

  • 3 of 5

We had 5 adults and 2 children in the cabin which made the accommodations very comfortable for all of us. The cabin was well stocked with everything we needed. We had rain most of our stay so we appreciated the extra umbrella! Thank you! Everything was very clean and we loved sitting outside listening to the birds!! Very calming and relaxing.

The only complaint we had was the very rough and bumpy road we had to travel to get to the cabin. The directions supplied by the owner were very confusing, Being almost 2 miles on this road, more landmarks could be included. Also, the downstairs bathroom electric outlet didn't work which made it very inconvenient to have to go upstairs to use blow dryer, curling iron, etc. Other than that, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Serene

My husband and I were more than happy with our stay at this cabin near Fletcher. We live in the country and prefer the sounds of nature to the hustle and bustle of city noises. The road up to the cabin is not for low-riding cars. Our Subaru Forester had no problem managing the grade of the driveway (steep) or the ruts in the road. Personally, the drive up and down the road just added to the ambiance of staying in a cabin up on the mountain. The trees had not filled in yet so we enjoyed a beautiful sunrise with a winter view of the valley and surrounding mountains. We would love to come back and stay again. We were impressed with all the extra amenities provided. The cabin was exactly what I expected and was more than pleased with the price of our stay. The instructions given by the Kellys was perfect for our stay. If you're a foodie, try the Blue Sky Café in Fletcher or The Asheville Commissary.

Great house

  • 5 of 5

Our family thoroughly enjoy the house and all of it's comforts. From the fire pit to the ping pong table the kids got the most out of the seclusion and lack of internet and cell service (a big plus with teens). The dirt road is a little tough on the vehicles so try and limit the trips back and forth, but we managed. The kitchen is well stocked and most of the past guests have left enough odds and ends so you have the pinch of this and that you'll need. We'll be back again someday.

Couldn't be any better. Lovely cabin in the woods!

  • 5 of 5

I loved everything about this cabin!

It is a ways up the mountain nearly to the top(not too bad). But for us, that was the great part. It's truly cabin in the woods. Private. Quiet. The cabin was JUST like the photos. It was so well prepared and stocked. From every little spices, kitchen appliances to comfortable bed and plenty linens. Rooms are adorable (Some crickets might appear in the bunk bedroom downstairs! But no 'bugs' per se. For a cabin in the woods. it's so clean.) Grill & Fire pit behind the cabin was a great activity to do.(Also well stocked for this as well.) Showers have great water pressures and hot showers. The best part of the cabin is of course the 2nd floor balcony. It was the go-to place to relax and talk on the rocking chairs. Having no cell signal (AT&T will have struggle even sending a text. so basically none.) was a little hard but I think it's a good thing when you are trying to wind down and relax.

We didn't get a chance to walk up behind the cabin to the top of the mountain for that view. But next time! I would recommend this cabin to anyone.

*Only tip I have would be: When you first get to the Old Mill Road that goes up the mountain, it can be confusing. Just go slow and avoid any turn up that says "Private Property" or "No trespassing" (and also Black Cherry lane(street sign) or something can also look tempting but keep going up)

Notes:
Nicely private and secluded, but only a 13 minute drive to large grocery stores, restaurants, etc. in Hendersonville. Approximately 25 minute drive to Asheville. Miles and miles of beautiful hiking available on mountain behind house without having to get in your car. Fairly steep dirt road for 1.3 miles and driveway--in icy conditions, an SUV or other 4-wheel drive vehicle is recommended. Note: we do NOT have wifi service at the cabin, but many guests are able to make a wifi hotspot with their phones, especially if they have Verizon cell phone service.
