Overview

Photos and Description of this 2 bedroom holiday chateau / country house in Mankato - The Charming Farmhouse

Fully Remodeled, Beautiful, Welcoming Space-- Private, Yet Minutes From Downtown

Comfortable, warm and inviting-- all in an excellent location. This completely remodeled farmhouse is located on almost 8 wooded acres just a few short minutes from downtown Mankato.

In the warm months, cross the street and find yourself on miles of walking, running and biking trails connected to the Red Jacket Trail system. Head down the road 1/2 a mile and spend the weekend mountain biking at Mt Kato or pack your kayak or canoe and make your way to the Blue Earth River just a mile down the road. Grab the family and visit any number of the many recreational lakes in the area, several within 20 minutes of the house. Or stay home, grill and eat out on the patio and catch fireflies in the yard.

In the winter months, watch the downhill skiers and snowboarders ski the front side of Mt Kato from your living room window while comfortably nestled in front of a warm pellet stove, or hit the slopes yourself! Snowshoe or cross country ski along the trails… or stay home and enjoy the peace and comfort that this home provides. Soak in the antique clawfoot tub situated in front of the picture window looking out over woods. Watch the hawks and deer in the backyard. Whip up a delicious dinner in the custom kitchen, utilizing the ample soapstone countertops and butcher block island. Or start a fire in the easy-to-use wood pellet fireplace and spend the evening reading, watching a movie, or enjoying time with those you love.

This peaceful home would make a great weekend or week-long retreat for a couple, a small family or a single professional who has to be in the area for work. It is a well-priced and much more comfortable and spacious alternative to hotels in the area.

We now have an on-site caretaker who lives part time in a separate apartment, with a separate entrance, in the lower level/basement of the house (pictures of this space not posted on this website). The caretaker will mostly stay out of your way unless you need something, like a bonfire built, a restaurant recommendation or help booking a local outfitter for a river adventure.

Why Jennifer chose Minnesota

This house offered such a wonderful space in really one of the most beautiful sections of Mankato, the river valley. It was pretty rough when I bought it in 07, and many said it was way too big of a project for one person alone.

What makes this chateau / country house unique

There is just something about this property. You are close to everything, yet secluded just enough to feel peaceful when in the back property or relaxing in the home. The farmhouse is very well built and has great light because of its position on a small hill. It's one of those places where you just feel at home, for relaxing and rejuvenating.

quite relaxing stay

  • 4 of 5

We have stayed at the farmhouse 3 times now. Everytime it has been clean, quite and comfortable. The only problem we faced this last visit was there was only 1 roll of t.p. in the house. Rather problematic when I discovered this in the middle of the night.

Otherwise, the house is located by paved trails for biking and running. Every morning I would enjoy a 2 hour walk with my dogs and watching the humming birds/chickens while drinking coffee. A great place to relax but Mankato is also close by so we could do other things as well.

Peaceful Retreat!!

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I greatly enjoyed this Farmhouse! We were looking for a quiet location away from the cities to unwind and unplug. This was exactly what we needed.

The kitchen was well equipped with everything anyone needs to make a great breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The claw foot tub was a refreshing experience. I turned on some music and just drifted away.

The only negative incident I had occurred when we arrived. The driveway was taken up by the caretakers car. When we came inside the house, one of the caretakers was rushing downstairs with what looked like a load of her personal laundry. She apologize as she passed me. Then she went downstairs and I could hear her and someone else arguing. Next thing you know, the smoke alarm started going off in their living quarters.......

All and all, this place was right up our alley. It was exactly what we needed. I would recommend this house to anyone looking for some time away from the hustle and bustle of everyday work.

Owner's Response: Hello and thank you for your kind words. Just to respond to the very unusual situation where you intersected one of the caretakers: we had a new hire in July, and she ran into problems changing out the house water filter for the first time (big filtration system in the basement), which slowed down the laundry/house turnover by over an hour. She was just about to leave (she was not living onsite and so was about to go home) which was why the car was parked by the door. She is a college student, so had brought her mom down to help her that first time, which I think ended up being a little stressful! She has since gotten things down and is quick and smooth with turning over the house. Usually guests never see or hear the caretaker, regardless of if they live on site or off site, unless they need help and directly contact/call whoever is taking care of the home at the time. Just wanted to address your note about this as it was such an unusual situation. :)

An enchanted place

  • 5 of 5

A perfect spot for a special weekend get-a-way. The farmhouse has been lovingly renovated and is well equipped with everthing you need. Great walking and bike paths are right across the road and Mankato is just a couple of miles away for groceries.

My granddaughter was thrilled to discover fireflies for the first time from the porch swing while I relaxed watching haying in the field at dusk behind her.

It was a great change of pace from our summer in the cities.

Very lovely home

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay! It is perfect for a couple or a family with small children. The main road was closer to the house than we expected which we are not used to the traffic sound. This did not bother our sleeping though because the house is well built. We used the grill, stove and ate outside. The bike trails are very close and next time we will bring our bikes. We walked on them and it is a very nice trail!

Kitchen is well stocked with utensils and pans as well as seasonings.

A beautiful space to be in.

  • 5 of 5

The property is very clean and beautifully decorated. Also very well stocked with everything you need to have a comfortable stay. The location is very close to everything yet secluded. I didn't know places like this existed in Mankato. Our stay was relaxed and enjoyable.
