This limestone home has been carefully taken care of since it was built in 1910. The neighborhood of Stuyvesant Heights is home to many families including my own. We enjoy the neighborhood feel, the magnificent New York architecture, the independent coffee shops and trendy restaurants. The A Train is less than 100 ft. from the apartment and your trip into the city will take approximately 25 minutes. Clearly, Brooklyn itself is a destination and you will be right in the center if you choose to stay at the Reading Room Suite.
We look forward to having you enjoy the neighborhood as many, many travelers from around the world do every day! Have breakfast in the Reading Room Suite or in one of the many neighborhood eateries before setting out on your day to explore all that New York has to offer.
Warmest regards, Jason
Jason purchased this apartment in 2007
My sister and I arrived at the Reading Room in Brooklyn and we were instantly impressed! Jason's Mom gave us the full tour of the property and it was just as described in the listing. It was spacious and comfy and clean and we felt right at home.
Jason and his Mom were both very helpful in answering any questions that we had and they supplied us with maps and directions to the closest restaurants and grocery stores. They also taught us which Subway station to use and which train would take us into Manhattan (A or C).
The street and neighborhood that the Reading Room is located on is just marvelous! It is a beautiful neighborhood and there were many flowers and plants and fall decorations out to make it even more beautiful. The Utica Subway station is 2 blocks away and it was an easy and safe walk to and from the Reading Room. My sister and I felt very safe walking around the neighborhood at all times of the day and night.
My sister and I stayed for 7 nights and we had a fantastic trip to NYC! We spent time in Manhattan during the day/evening and then would come back to Brooklyn at night. The Reading Room was a very relaxing place to stay and it was nice to have such a quiet space to enjoy after the long and loud days in Manhattan.
I highly recommend staying in the Reading Room - it was great for a girls trip to NYC and I think it would be perfect for families as well.
Our stay at the wonderful "Reading Room Suite" in Brooklyn was a pleasant and enjoyable experience. Jason was great and prompt with all communications regarding his property.
We were greeted by Jason's mother, Elizabeth who was charming and very thorough with the orientation of her basement apartment and getting around the city by subway. Jason also provided us with some ideas as to where to eat in the neighborhood.
My friend and I wanted to stay in a place different from the hustle and bustle of Manhattan. The Reading Room Suite is an affordable and homey alternative to hotel accommodations. The property is conveniently close to the subway, literally a two minute walk through a quaint park.
The apartment has great amenities... dependable wifi, refrigerator, mini kitchen, full sized washer, dryer, 2 flat screen TV's and a lot of space to house 6 people comfortably. The neighborhood is friendly and safe. We used the subway as late as 11 pm at night.
Jason and Elizabeth also made it a point to check in on us to make sure we were okay. This place is great for travelers of 2 to a family of 6.
The 'Reading Room' is ideal accommodation for travelling with young children. There is an abundance of open plan space for children to play. The apartment is tidy and clean, and is equipped with a washing machine, dryer and drying rack which is very handy when travelling with children. There was reliable wi-fi. The apartment is located in a quiet and friendly neigbourhood with a playground, public library and excellent cafes/restaurants within walking distance. The subway station (express A train, plus local line C) was very close and had a lift/elevator - and the trip to Manhattan on the A train was not very long. Jason and his family went out of their way to help us with any questions we had about the apartment and provided us with useful advice on travel. Staying at the 'Reading Room' was central to us enjoying our holiday to NY - we would definitely return to the 'Reading Room'!
Our stay at The Reading Room was great.
Right from the start we found Jason to be excellent at communicating with us, always responding to emails/ questions. Then when we arrived he met us and helped us settle in. The apartment was perfect for a family of 4, very comfortable and well appointed. The useful fact sheets of local amenities were very beneficial and Jason's recommendations were spot on.
The location was just what we needed for our short stay in Brooklyn/ New York, close to the subway meant easy access to Manhattan.
As a family of four with two teenage girls we were a little apprehensive about staying on the outskirts of the City in Brooklyn, but how wrong could we have been.
We arrived after the long flight and a cab ride (with a wonderful Taxi driver) and were met by Elizabeth, Jason's Mum what a lovely lady. Elizabeth took us through everything we needed to know about the property the area travel etc etc, you name it she had it covered.
The property was much larger than we first thought and very well equipped with everything you would want (even a small back yard with patio furniture) the place was great.
We travelled into Manhattan every day using our 7 day Metro cards (really good value) sometimes going in and out twice and using them to go up and down Manhattan from the Battery Park at the bottom to Central Park at the top. Jason and his mum Elizabeth are lovely people and you feel instantly at home, Brooklyn's immediate area was really surprising with a Park at the end of the road (where the subway started) a few restaurants, Peachy's was great the first night and Daddy Greens Pizza shop was amazing food and really friendly people.
Would definitely recommend Jason's apartment and the area for your Manhattan trip. Wonderful experience. Nice people, good value and easy travelling, great place. Get off at High Street on the subway and walk the Brooklyn Bridge for great New York Sky Line images. All in all great place and people will definitely come back.
We can only find compliments for our stay in the Reading Room Suite in Brooklyn. The apartment was comfortable, stylish, spotlessly clean and somewhere to look forward to getting back to after a day in New York.
Jason was an excellent host who even came out near midnight to rescue us when our taxi driver couldn't find the address.
The location is very convenient and close to the A Train, which makes getting into Manhattan easy. Importantly, the bed is very comfortable. Full washing facilities makes it easier for travellers.
We readily recommend this apartment to anyone spending time in NYC.
