Located in Colonial Beach on the point, the Do Drop Inn is a year round 3 bedroom, 2 full bath home located directly on the water front of Monroe Bay. The house comfortably sleeps five persons. The views are amazing - from beautiful sunrises, through all day sky and water watching activities checking out the action on the water in and out of the channel and marinas, to glorious sunsets, moon rises and then to look up to see how close the stars and planets are while gazing at constellations you haven't even noticed before. For the nature lovers, the Do Drop Inn is the best place to watch storms, but yet be protected. Wonderful bird watching location !!
The layout and warmth of this 1,600 + square foot home with a 336 square foot deck balcony is just a bonus to the excellent views, relaxing atmosphere, local activities and nature watching.
The master bedroom suite has a grand view of the water and sunrises and includes a king size bed and cable television. The private master bath includes both a tub and a shower, which the optional wall heater makes nice and cozy. The second bedroom has a queen size bed and cable tv with a private door into the full hall bath. The third bedroom or office/den has a fantastic view of the water along with sunrises and sunsets and includes a twin bed and cable tv. Each bedroom has a ceiling fan and wonderful windows which brings the outside in. All linens and towels are provided unless you prefer to bring your own.
The living room makes you feel like you are living on the water with a set of Andersen double sliding glass doors opening onto the 12'x28' wide deck with a sunsetter remote control sun shade awning. The cathedral ceiling has two ceiling fans and there is a wood burning fireplace. There is a 45" television with cable tv (Direct TV with Genie) and a wii. There are several desk work areas if you do need to work. A large mirrored wall makes the space feel even larger. Nautical decorations, a collection of local sharks teeth and other fossils along with a glass collection, all enhanced with the 'by the water' living environment. The wood burning fireplace is a wonderful addition throughout the winter months with an ample supply of firewood in close proximity.
All three bedrooms, the hallways and the great room are carpeted with an off white light beige cut pile. The kitchen and bathrooms have vinyl tile floors. All walls are painted white. All doors and frames and window frames are wood finished in a medium oak stain. The mix of mirrors, lots of window and the skylight provide ample natural light throughout the house. Therefore, all spaces are light and airy, while feeling warm and inviting.
The table space kitchen is open to the living room for full entertaining and interaction. You can even watch sunset over the water out the kitchen windows at the table, which seats 6. An adjoining 'mud' room sports the mini bar with sink where the full size washer and dryer are tucked away. The kitchen is supplied with more than enough pots, pans, dishes, glasses, silverware and counter top appliances such as microwave, coffee pot, food blender, toaster, etc.
Enjoy your coffee on the deck while watching all the birds and wildlife which includes eagles, ospreys, great blue herons, swans, ducks, geese, cormorants, king fishers, sterlings, cardinals, etc. Have an adult beverage or two and you might wonder if you really are seeing a ground hog coming up over the seawall or not.
The side yard is very large and is fenced for the dogs and kids to run around in. Grab a football, volleyball, badminton or corn hole game and just hang outside. Grab a fishing rod and go down on the dock to fish, crab, kayak, canoe, all at your own risk of course. Make sure to wear the life vests. Vests and paddles are in the front hall closet.
The outdoor fire pit area is a wonderful place to hang out to keep the chill off on spring or fall evenings. Fireworks can be seen throughout the summer season not only in town, but from the water view out of the Do Drop Inn over Monroe Bay. The neighbors are nice, but the property has privacy due to the large yard as the lot is wider then other typical house lots, so you don't feel confined nor closed in and on top of the neighbors.
You can walk or ride your bicycle into town in minutes to the gourmet markets and variety of restaurants and great shops or to the long stretch of sandy beach along the Potomac River. Up the street and around the point is a great 5k run. The fun aspect of being on 'The Point' is riding a golf cart all around town and don't forget to wave, most everyone waves and is smiling. The usual hand wave off the steering wheel is the classic for Colonial Beach locals.
Discounts are available for military members with long term per diem stays. The Do Drop Inn is both children and pet friendly. All liability is yours with an unwritten use at your own risk policy. The property has its own private dock and is truly waterfront. Typically in Colonial Beach waterfront is water view as you are across the street. The Do Drop in is literally by and on the water. The private dock offers ample slip space with power and there are two boat lifts and one jet ski lift - additional rental rates would apply. There is a floating dock for the kayak, canoe or laser sailboat. Wear your water shoes to protect your feet as there are a lot of oyster shells on Winkidoodle Point.
Lafayette Street used to be named Boat Lane. The Street is more of an usual street on 'The Point' as it a dead end at Curley's Oyster House, Monroe Bay Marina and Winkidoodle Point Marina. Sitting on the deck you can see part of the older marina, and when the winds blow through the sailboats and you can hear the soft clanging of the sailboat lanyards in the distance. Quite the get away but the socialization is right out the front door. Or is the front yard the waterfront and the street side is the back door? You decide.
