Spectacular coastal and mountain views abound in this 5,000 sq ft 4 bedroom luxury hideaway, which includes a large office with private bath (converting to a 5th bedroom if needed). Swimming pool, Jacuzzi, and Palapa-covered terraces beautifully contrast the clean modernistic lines of the house. The main floor surrounds a small inner garden courtyard and fountain. Large, bright fully appointed kitchen has granite counters, gas stove, and wet-bar. Adjacent dining and living rooms boast double-height vaulted ceiling, accessed from a gallery-styled passage and stunning vestibule entrance.
Sleeping Quarters on Top Floor w/ Best Views!: On the upper floor, an elevated walkway separates the swank, private master bedroom from another VIP guest suite, along with two more bedrooms, each with balconies and breathtaking views. A giant 3-car garage, laundry room and storage area comprise the lower floor below.
Uncommon Combination of Nature and Luxury: Casa Buendía is located on 2..5 acres (1 hectare) of forested land, bordered by a mountain stream on the westernmost limit, accessible via a private footpath. Toucans, howler and white faced monkeys are common attractions. Just to the south lies Ballena National Marine Park and Corcovado National Park, while Manuel Antonio National Park is a short drive away to the North. Surfing, sport-fishing, diving, hiking, birdwatching, mountain biking, horseback riding, sea and river kayaking and rafting, are just some of the activities offered in the area. Spa treatment, maid service and gourmet food preparation are available on request.

About Estrella Barrantes & Vince Ruddy
We are an American-Costa Rican couple married for over 20 years. We are world travelers and active outdoor action sports afficionados. We bought land in Dominical after falling in love with the place during surf trip getaways, back in 1998. Ten years later, we decided to build our dream house and share it with family, friends, and guests!
Estrella Barrantes & Vince Ruddy purchased this Villa in 2009
Why Estrella Barrantes & Vince Ruddy chose Dominical
We are in Dominical because it offers so much to so many kinds of adventurers! We have been to Asia, Africa, the Middle East, a throughout North, Central, and South America, and we have yet to find a place that is so natural, wild, scenic, and fun. Amazing surf and lush forest waterfalls drew us in. Eventually, we discovered other options, including kayaking in the Savegre river, exploring Corcovado National Park (one of the most bio-diverse locations on the planet). It is far enough from the big cities and overbuilt tourist traps, but still close enough to make for a 2.5 hour drive on the new highway from San Jose.

Beautiful house, great vacation. Best part of Costa Rica
We had a very enjoyable stay at Casa Buendia over the Christmas holiday. We are a family of seven with 4 kids (15-22) and my oldest daughter's boyfriend, who is part of the family now. The house has a beautiful architectural design. Some of the memorable features seem trivial but were unique and interesting. The powder room sink has a flat stone base, the master shower has indoor and outdoor sections, the lighting and plants on the first floor and pool area are dramatically pretty, the grill area has a beautiful wood table, and the fountain and courtyard provide a nice atmosphere. The bedrooms all had balconies and air conditioning. There were multiple areas for relaxing which is important with a large family on vacation ...everyone needs a little personal space and quiet time. The design and footprint of the house gave 180 degree views of the ocean, and comfortable areas for shade morning and afternoon. Toucans flew back and forth in the trees all day.
My wife and I enjoyed having coffee on the balcony by the office in the morning and relaxing by the pool in the evening. The outdoor table was a great place for family gathering, games and meals. The kitchen was fully equipped, everything worked, and breakfast for our large family was easy to prepare. The staff was friendly and cleaned the kitchen and dishes, and made the beds every day as soon as we were out of the house. The house has a safe, so we were able to lock up our passports and valuables while we were gone all day.
We have been to Costa Rica 4 times and enjoy the Uvita area. The locals are genuine and very nice. Uvita has good restaurants, nearby adventure activities, and is not a tourist location. The beach has great waves for surfing and is a fun place to hang out at sunset. A real pure Costa Rica experience, nothing artificial. We recommend Carlos, Kimberly and Anner at Ballena Kayaks for fishing, rappelling and kayaking, Rancho la Merced (Leandro) for horseback riding and Authentico Adventures (Carlos, Fernando, Paoulo and Brian) for white water rafting (they will come and pick you up!). The Jolly Roger, on the road to Casa Buendia, has some of the best burgers and wings that we have ever eaten. Best restaurants are Sabor Espanol, Gabriella's Steak and Seafood in Quepos, and Marino Ballena for local food.
The drive up and down the mountain was the only drawback, but the views at the house made it worthwhile. We thank Estrella and Vince for sharing their home and their hospitality
Dear Paul and family, thanks so much for taking the time to review your stay with us, we appreciate all the feedback and suggestions you have.
Please come back soon!
All the best for 2018!
Beautiful Home Near Dominical
Beautiful home with breathtaking views! We thouroughly enjoyed our stay! Our host way great! I highly recommend this home.
An ideal property for families and longer stays
Casa Buendia was the ideal choice for our group of 5 - 3 adults and 2 children, saying in Dominical for 1 week. We wanted a house that would be conveniently located as a hub for day-trips but would also be comfortable to lounge in on days when we weren't up for a journey. We were not disappointed: the pool is well-maintained, a comfortable temperature and long enough to do laps in (rare to find). The live-in caretakers, a couple with a young child, were very helpful when we needed to find something. And the property manager, Luis, was there when we arrived and gave us a very helpful orientation to the area, including recommending the best grocery stores and restaurants. The kitchen is well appointed with every possible utensil or dish you would need for cooking. There is also a generously-sized grill on the patio. We ordered one meal while we were there - the BBQ dinner the evening that we arrived - and it was delicious, with plenty of leftovers. There are beautiful flowers and trees in the neighborhood, and the birdwatcher in our party was thrilled to have so much to observe. It's worth noting too that the house is cleverly sited with respect to the sun, so that even at the peak of midday there is always a cool, shaded area. It was a great house for a week's stay but I would also recommend it highly for a family or group looking to stay for longer and perhaps work from there. There is an office in the shady part of the house with a comfortable work station. I would also recommend it for multigenerational families with members needing different levels of activity: it is easily accessible to many adventures but also a beautiful place to sit and observe the view from the elevated location or the local flora & fauna. The high points of our trip, activity-wise, were the Alturas Wildlife Sanctuary, Marino Ballena National Park, the Catarata Uvita, and a combination kayak/snorkel trip. The snorkeling is quite good near Marino Ballena and the water temperature was balmy in February.
A view to die for
Just got back from a week in this villa and what a week. The villa is awesome and the view well, the pictures don't do it justice. Everything you need is in this Villa. The hosts are quick to response and very helpful. Highly recommended
Wonderful house and amazing views.
We had a wonderful stay in a beautiful and clean house and breathtaking views all around. The pool was absolutely great. Very relaxing and wonderful people. Loved it.
Amazing house, view and location
The house is truly amazing with a grand view of the pacific. Estrella, Luis and the caretaking couple was all very kindly and helpfull. Our only issues related to the kitchen. Usually I would expect a luxury house such as this having a better kitchen (no dishwasher, stuck drawers, dull knives, old cooking equipment etc.)
Other than that it is highly recommendable for a large family, group of friends or alike
Based on this helpful feedback, we have asked our caretaker to sharpen all kitchen knives. We will also review all other kitchen equipment and make upgrades in the near future. Really appreciate this feedback!
As for installing a dishwasher, most guests (including the owners when we stay) do not mind hand washing, given the rain forest location and availability of housekeeping help. However, we may revisit our present "eco-friendly" approach, if we receive dishwasher requests from other guests going forward.
Casa Buendia is located in a private and exclusive area known as Escaleras, South of Dominical, and North of Uvita. We chose this location for many reasons. Amazing surf and lush forest waterfalls drew us in. Eventually, we discovered other options, including kayaking in the Savegre river, exploring Corcovado National Park (one of the most bio-diverse locations on the planet), whale watching in the nearby Ballena Marine National Park, or just relaxing on the property, where a jungle brook passes on one side, while the sound of breaking waves filters in from another. Casa Buendia is far enough from the big cities and overbuilt tourist traps, but still close enough to make for a 2.5 hour drive from San Jose.
If you are looking for an adventurous vacation and a chance to enjoy all the best that Costa Rica has to offer, consider doing it in comfort and style-- Casa Buendia is a cut above the rest, in every way you can imagine!
Other Activities: Shopping, Kayaking, Boating, Wildlife Viewing, Health/Beauty Spa
